Just like Michael Jordan had to become a better shooter as he aged, Roy should have realized after Tarver knocked him out that he could no longer fight leaving himself open. He never made that adjustment in his fight game. It is his handlers responsibility to tell him that he needed to become more defensively sound. As the years went by the trainers of his opponents saw the openings in his defense and as you see capitalized on it. Roy make the adjustment and become harder to figure out.
As an Australian i was all for Danny, i think he is a top bloke but after this- and even more so the Paul Brigs fight- i just cant help but to think he is a fraud. We will see how things pan out with Tarver. He could do some huge (and much needed) things for Australian boxing.

At the time, I thought the fight should have been stopped. Watching this back, I think they could've gone on. Green didn't land any flush once Jones got back up. Having said that, Jones was not even trying to fight back.

He was so athletically gifted, and fast he could get away with it, and it worked during his prime. Now that he is older he is not fast enough to not get caught. When you age, you have to rely more on fundamentals than athletic gifts. That is why B. Hop is still ticking. He protects himself well & is able 2 roll away from punches, etc.

Jones Jnr was a super-talented boxer for sure! Fast, heavy hands, and he could get out of the way of most punches. The facts of this fight are - both boxers were past their prime (Roy was a few years older), but Danny's hands are just as heavy and Roy got made piss. He's quick, but he can't get evade every punch (see Jones v. Tarver 2). Now for Green vs Tarver - can't wait! Green might fight people past their prime, but he's doing a hell of a lot for Aussie boxing bringing these champions over.

He could hurt you with either hand, threw the most unorthodox, angular punches and looked good doing it. Danny Green is not and will never be considered a legend. He's barely a C class fighter. Yes I'm from the US,RJ just an athletic country bumpkin. He was never a great fighter. Just about every one of his opponents was a mediocre fighter. He was fast, so this allowed him to take liberties, walk around with his hands down, and outbox his opponents. It was only a matter of time before someone like Tarver exposed this chicken fighter. His ring entrances with the rap music were a celebration of ignorance. Patheitc seeing him now. He has always been an embarrassment to a noble sport.

They think that Danny green is something special, but what they don't realise is he is fighting opponents that are on their way out looking for a quick pay-day. @Chunklake i agree that RJJ will go down in history as one of the greats, and danny green isnt spectacular to watch, but he has a great record and is highly ranked, im no aussie, but thats where i live, and i have an upcomming amature career (if i can drop alil more weight), and we train just as hard as anyone in any other country, we love our fighters and respect most boxers. we know as much about boxing as anyone else, our population is that of NY, so we have less fighters, its a numbers game

Very sad to see one of the very best boxers ever losing to someone without half of his class. Bad idea for a 40 year old Boxer who is based so much on speed and reflexes to get into a ring with someone like Danny Green and then even maintain the same Style that worked when he was young, extremly fast and had outstanding good reflexes. Its like prityricky said, back in his prime he could let his left down, cuz he would have just dodged this right from danny, at that age he couldnt.

Just like Michael Jordan had to become a better shooter as he aged, Roy should have realized after Tarver knocked him out that he could no longer fight leaving himself open. He never made that adjustment in his fight game. It is his handlers responsibility to tell him that he needed to become more defensively sound. As the years went by the trainers of his opponents saw the openings in his defense and as you see capitalized on it. Roy make the adjustment and become harder to figure out.

At the time, I thought the fight should have been stopped. Watching this back, I think they could've gone on. Green didn't land any flush once Jones got back up. Having said that, Jones was not even trying to fight back.
Not sure why Green cops flack for this bout either. Jones chose to fight and Green came out on top. It doesn't mean that anyone is claiming Green was as good as Jones in his prime. However, Green is not exactly a young guy either, so all this "prime" stuff is a bit silly.

He was so athletically gifted, and fast he could get away with it, and it worked during his prime. Now that he is older he is not fast enough to not get caught. When you age, you have to rely more on fundamentals than athletic gifts. That is why B. Hop is still ticking. He protects himself well & is able 2 roll away from punches, etc.

His style is certainly not wrong, its unusual but cerainly not wrong, just look at the career he has had. Its definitely not the way new boxers are taught to fight, but it is certainly a huge advantage for him when he could pull it off at the very top level.. like i said, after such an amazing career its sad to see age catching up with him

Jones Jnr was a super-talented boxer for sure! Fast, heavy hands, and he could get out of the way of most punches. The facts of this fight are - both boxers were past their prime (Roy was a few years older), but Danny's hands are just as heavy and Roy got made piss. He's quick, but he can't get evade every punch (see Jones v. Tarver 2). Now for Green vs Tarver - can't wait! Green might fight people past their prime, but he's doing a hell of a lot for Aussie boxing bringing these champions over.
