@ViRealTutorials In my compression options I don't have nearly as many options, and I don't have Apple DVC Pro 720 p60 . . .I have the same version of MPEG streamclip? What the F*&^%&65? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
i have two folder with video clips to edit. the first is from canon T1 and is 1920x1080 but 20fps, the second is from canon 5D but is 24 fps. i try to edit in fianl cut but the clips from T1 are droping everytime, i've used streamclip to convert them to 24fps but in the time lime they are droping again. can you give me an advice? the time line settings are H.264 compressor. thaks
I had better results with the Apple Intermediate Codec than the Apple ProRes, but with the Apple ProRes I got slightly smaller files. Mpeg Streamclip is definitely faster than Compressor.
Sorry maybe this is a stupid question, but when i'm working on a project, which i am right now, how do i compress the whole thing (which contain allot of clips) in one time? thank you for the video.
@frantictraces When you're selecting the files you want click on the first one and then hold shift while you click on the last file. That's if they are all in one place on your computer. Not positive this will work but it usually does for me, I do use a different converter though.
When you chose your compression type in mpeg stream clip you picked Apple DVCPRO HD 720p60. I am using a Canon 7D and my movie rec. size is 1920x 1080 24. Would I still choose the same compression type as you in mpeg stream clip?
@tanmy85 na tanmy use Appple Pro Res... DVCPRo is for people that have used panasonic condecs in the past.
Import clips / open mpgeg ( select Apple Pro Res 100% quality 48 khz audio ) then into final cut pro (or whatever you edit with) Then to compress to Quicktime H264.
Thanks for the interest tanmy
ps You dont need LT pro ress or Pro Res HD for the 7d, Regular pro ress is fine.
@ViRealTutorials Hi There, i am using a Canon 5d, and i shoot at 25fps. I find playback on pro res stuttering, what would you recomend for me to use. As there is no DVC Pro 720p 25 to work with. Do i use 1080p 25 instead?
I recently edited some footage that I shot on my Canon 5D Mark II and it was a hideous experience. Wish I had seen this first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hated it!
@wubascuba Like do a single clip export? You can actually just open up Mpeg Streamclip, then just drag and drop the clip into the interface. Click file and go down to export set destination/conversion settings and your good.
@ViRealTutorials True, true. I guess I just assumed that if you were exporting via Compressor in the tutorial that you had it available for ingestion as well. Anyway, the new answer here if you have an Intel Mac is to download Canon's free Plugin that allows you to use the FCP Log & Transfer window to ingest & convert to any of the ProRes Codecs or Apple Intermediate codec. It is extremely fast and works with 1D/5D/7D footage (or even with T2i footage with a very minor hack). Good stuff!
@RodWeber2 Awesome thank you for posting that! However, if people do not own awesome programs like compressor :) Mpeg Steamclip is an affordable alternative.
Also guys remeber! "MOST" People use Apple Prores or Apple Prores (LT) instead of DVC Pro HD Codecs. Pick your poison experiment figure out what you like best! If you want to use "Pro Res". Do everything the same except at 1:08 Pick Apple Pro Ress instead of apple DVCPRo HD 720 60p. Then export the same way
@ViRealTutorials which one would you recommend and why? Just curious.... I use pro res all the time... so i wanted to hear your opinion cause you seem like you might know something i may not..
@pixeleap I would recommend Pro Res LT or Pro Res. Tons of people use DVCPro HD because they have used Panasonic cameras and they are familiar with the format/workflow. I have found 7D Pro Res footage works very well with sony Cameras.

@Wrightymc this could be a shutter speed problem, try setting the shutter speeds to 50 when you shoot 25 fps or 60 when you are shooting 30 fps.

Nice tutorial. However, you can eliminate the MPEG Streamclip step and replace with an easier, even friendlier workflow:
1. Drop 7D files directly into Compressor drop well & convert to DVCProHD or ProRes. (LT setting works fine, and definitely NO need for HQ setting)
2. Import into FCP & edit
3. Export via Compressor
This uses just 2 pieces of software that you already have rather than needing a 3rd, and might be faster to boot.
