The "second" gate found in Antarctica in SG-1 was said to be at LEAST 50 million years old, which would make it older than the Destiny, yet the Milky Way gates are still more advanced than the Destiny model. Continuity failure, right there, and only the first of many. Why can no one accept that Universe was Brad Wright's little pet project since before he worked on Stargate, and he just took advantage of the brand to sell it?
Are you all serious? I watched SGU both seasons and it´s SUCKS. NO real Action, NO cool and good enemies like Ori or Wraith or Asurans. Only this damn story on a dark dark ship in space. I mean at which time are all people on the SG-C learn language of ancients. NO Mckay or Daniel Jackson. The bad are this series of SGU have had gone good with the right characters. But no. It are replaying: save the ship, load energie of ship, defend the ship sometimes F*** and replay. SGA and SG1 are the best.

Most likely, that's where they were heading, to try and make their baby (that no one really wanted - be honest, now) outshine SG-1 and SGA. Which would have been totally ridiculous, considering that Destiny's shields practically fail from a few salvos of enemy fire and its weapons can't even break through a single ship's shields.

However, it didn't have to do with market dives or runaway lending. It was all about advertisers not seeing the numbers they needed to in order to keep the show going. When you get down to it, every TV program is an investment. And the investors were not pleased. So, it went away. Wish Wall St. were that way.
Ive watched every episode through all ten years of SG1 and the first season of SGA and Ive seen all of SGU and I think that the Cinamatography is a lot like BattleStar(Which I didn't like at all) but after about the fifth episode of the first season of SGU it really picks up and becomes its own Monster. Atlantis and Universe were supposed to play together and Atlantis was going to give the Destiny supplies and a new earth ship called the Achilles (picture on my channel) was going to save the Destiny in a dyer time but the RETARTED SYFY channel canceled Atlantis before Universe even had a go, therefore the storyline changed. Every character on SGU was paper thin and BORING. The acting was as stale and grimy as moldy bread to say the least. @TelepathicPebble Personally I never got past season one of SG1 and 2 of SGA i tried to but couldn't it seemed as if they were runing out of time so most episodes would hurry up and finish as if they were trying to make the 45 min episode deadline. SGU doesnt do that, all the episodes mesh smoothly into one another and the cliffhangers keep me interested. I'm sad its going off air but I'm totally watching the finalle this mon. Maybe theyll make an SGA movie for ya

Both of those shows had long-running story arcs, but actually showed some PROGRESS in each of them along the way instead of boring you to tears while you wait to be thrown a bone, which is what SGU did. It would have gone on being that way, too, if SyFy hadn't pointed out its crap ratings and threatened to give it the axe, which is why "Season 2 had more action", not because it was planned that way. Too little, too late.

But SGU is only dark because SYFY canceled Atlantis. Those 2 shows were going to play to gather like SG-1 and Atlantis did years ago. Atlantis was cut short before its time, but sadly it seems SG1 and A fanatics would rather poison the well for everyone. I never cared for the SG universe till SGU came out, to me it's more in touch with how real people behave and how real life plays out. I also found the "message from the universe" thing very intriguing. As far as I'm concerned, SG1 and A were just cartoons in the form of live action entertainment, good for what it was but not my cup of tea.

I like sgu. I enjoyed the csi type sga episode because the music chosen for that epidode fit shepard so well. Tugged at my heart string when he died in that reality

Considering that Terminator: Salvation (which, granted, was not that good anyway) retconned Terminator 3 out of existence purely because the fans didn't care for it. Trust me, it's not unprecedented for the producers of a series of movies or TV episodes to essentially void out the story elements, characters, etc of an epic fail in the past. Supposing anyone ever does pick up SG again, they'll remember SGU...and not include it.

If MGM can find a buyer in the near future, profitable franchises like Stargate won't have to worry -- as long as they remain profitable. However, if MGM is forced into bankruptcy, a new set of variables can emerge that might either help shows like "Universe," or could send it out to an entirely new owner -- one that might be looking to recoup some of their losses to MGM, and not necessarily one looking to help the franchise continue to thrive.

@fmcc0904 SGU was different, and very slow moving. The only fault of SGU was that it seemed to try and mimic the success of shows like lost, so they included far too much back story and drama. It's potential existed but it's pace and format were too far different to that of which normal stargate fans were comfortable.
@gnatural Um, SGU is continuing nothing of the Stargate story. It's based on, what, something that happened (supposedly) off-camera about the Atlantis team discovering a 9-chevron address in the Ancient database. Guess what? That NEVER happened or was mentioned once in SGA. If someone picks up SG again, the best thing to do would be to retcon SGU as having taken place in an alternate reality and be of no importance to anything else. Because, really, it wasn't.

OK guys. Ima say it. I like SGU. I also like SGA. But they are two different genres. At times SGA and SG-1 had a light hearted sense to it. Some people like that. Thats fine. But I feel a more mature series like SGU with dark humor, dark characters is more satisfiying and doesn't leave me thinking "what did I do with the last 40 minutes? Oh thats right, listen to Carter, McKay Keller babbles for 40 minutes about how it sucks to be trapped in a mine." Sure SGU can be like that but not in S 1.5.

I agree with many of you, SGA did get a little predictable, and the final outcome of the storys were all very similar. I am a HUGE fan of SGA and SG-1 however. I wished SGA went into a little deeper territory. If they release the new movie soon it might be cool if they explained the destiny for SGU, but I think thatd be a waste, as they have to tie up Atlants sitting in SF harbour. There will never be another BSG ever! But I think if the filming took it's cues from BSG style we'd have SGA.

SGA was a carbon copy of the not-as-good parts of SG1, Plot threads that went nowhere, a lot more unnecessary 'fluff' per episode (or entire episodes of fluff, like the 'CSI' episode), a bad habit of introducing interesting aliens/technologies and then IMMEDIATELY forget or dispose them (the lost tribe of the Asgard...WHY COULDN'T I SEE MORE OF THAT?!)

It made no sense to have them return in the same season, especially since all that took place in the mid-season 2 parter. I loved Stargate Atlantis and had initially some restrictions about the new show, but now, SGU is a good show for me, more dense, more dramatic, not so fun like Atlantis, but different, with a great cast and production. I really wish Atlantis back and want SGU still be in air...

on 1:11, the noise practically describes what sgu is. its a pneumatic drill to all the sg1 and atlantis fan's balls. and to the fans, watching sgu and the boredom that it forces on you is almost as painful a someone drilling into your balls.
Watch SG-1 and SGA, and you'll see that character development CAN exist alongside a good plot/storyline. SGU fails to provide the plot/storyline and completely discards the action for the sake of ONLY character development, with occasional one-sided fights against alien viruses, bugs, beetles, etc.
Season two better be good. Lost sucked in its first season too, but this most recent season is epic. Let's hope SGU goes the same.

Dude, you posted this in 2008, and included that parody. It's like they took that parody seriously, and wrote the whole SGU show based on it. SGU is a parody of a real Stargate show, and the writers will reveal that it's all been one big joke, and season 2 of SGU will actually be the continuation of SGA.

I completely agree! Every single stargate brought something Unique & different, i remember when SGA started and people were protesting that and wanting SG-1 back. Seriously 10 seasons & 3 movies is an amazing accomplishment. & on top of that another 5 Season Spin-off!? You can't do better than that without getting stale. I'm satisfied with SGU, it brings something completely new to Stargate & I for one love every second & charachter!

There should be more pretty fuckers like Scott (Brian Smith) or Chloe (Elyse Levesque)? Which are in fact the most annoying characters in the show along with Eli (David Blue).
I say those three characters make me hate the show, but Rush (Carlyle) makes me want to watch the show, because he brings back the old stargate feel, this show is missing a lot.
I just hope they don't kill Rush, because it would kill the little bit of stargate this show still has.
Scott, Chloe, and Eli do not count as good looking at all. Scott is gross and whiny, Chloe is the annoying senator's daughter, and Eli is the stupid fat kid that constantly cracks jokes that aren't funny. I just hate them all, very very much.
Everyone else. There's no one enjoyable to connect with. They're all annoying, boring, and don't forget weird. I still remember that episode where they were about to crash into the sun, and suddenly the camera goes to Greer in his room naked (lmao WTF!).

The "second" gate found in Antarctica in SG-1 was said to be at LEAST 50 million years old, which would make it older than the Destiny, yet the Milky Way gates are still more advanced than the Destiny model. Continuity failure, right there, and only the first of many. Why can no one accept that Universe was Brad Wright's little pet project since before he worked on Stargate, and he just took advantage of the brand to sell it?

Most likely, that's where they were heading, to try and make their baby (that no one really wanted - be honest, now) outshine SG-1 and SGA. Which would have been totally ridiculous, considering that Destiny's shields practically fail from a few salvos of enemy fire and its weapons can't even break through a single ship's shields.

However, it didn't have to do with market dives or runaway lending. It was all about advertisers not seeing the numbers they needed to in order to keep the show going. When you get down to it, every TV program is an investment. And the investors were not pleased. So, it went away. Wish Wall St. were that way.

Ive watched every episode through all ten years of SG1 and the first season of SGA and Ive seen all of SGU and I think that the Cinamatography is a lot like BattleStar(Which I didn't like at all) but after about the fifth episode of the first season of SGU it really picks up and becomes its own Monster. Atlantis and Universe were supposed to play together and Atlantis was going to give the Destiny supplies and a new earth ship called the Achilles (picture on my channel) was going to save the Destiny in a dyer time but the RETARTED SYFY channel canceled Atlantis before Universe even had a go, therefore the storyline changed. @TelepathicPebble Personally I never got past season one of SG1 and 2 of SGA i tried to but couldn't it seemed as if they were runing out of time so most episodes would hurry up and finish as if they were trying to make the 45 min episode deadline. SGU doesnt do that, all the episodes mesh smoothly into one another and the cliffhangers keep me interested. I'm sad its going off air but I'm totally watching the finalle this mon. Maybe theyll make an SGA movie for ya

Both of those shows had long-running story arcs, but actually showed some PROGRESS in each of them along the way instead of boring you to tears while you wait to be thrown a bone, which is what SGU did. It would have gone on being that way, too, if SyFy hadn't pointed out its crap ratings and threatened to give it the axe, which is why "Season 2 had more action", not because it was planned that way. Atlantis was cut short before its time, but sadly it seems SG1 and A fanatics would rather poison the well for everyone. I never cared for the SG universe till SGU came out, to me it's more in touch with how real people behave and how real life plays out. I also found the "message from the universe" thing very intriguing. As far as I'm concerned, SG1 and A were just cartoons in the form of live action entertainment, good for what it was but not my cup of tea.

Considering that Terminator: Salvation (which, granted, was not that good anyway) retconned Terminator 3 out of existence purely because the fans didn't care for it. Trust me, it's not unprecedented for the producers of a series of movies or TV episodes to essentially void out the story elements, characters, etc of an epic fail in the past. Supposing anyone ever does pick up SG again, they'll remember SGU...and not include it.

If MGM can find a buyer in the near future, profitable franchises like Stargate won't have to worry -- as long as they remain profitable. However, if MGM is forced into bankruptcy, a new set of variables can emerge that might either help shows like "Universe," or could send it out to an entirely new owner -- one that might be looking to recoup some of their losses to MGM, and not necessarily one looking to help the franchise continue to thrive.

@fmcc0904 SGU was different, and very slow moving. The only fault of SGU was that it seemed to try and mimic the success of shows like lost, so they included far too much back story and drama. It's potential existed but it's pace and format were too far different to that of which normal stargate fans were comfortable.

It's based on, what, something that happened (supposedly) off-camera about the Atlantis team discovering a 9-chevron address in the Ancient database. Guess what? That NEVER happened or was mentioned once in SGA. If someone picks up SG again, the best thing to do would be to retcon SGU as having taken place in an alternate reality and be of no importance to anything else. Because, really, it wasn't.

But I feel a more mature series like SGU with dark humor, dark characters is more satisfiying and doesn't leave me thinking "what did I do with the last 40 minutes? I agree with many of you, SGA did get a little predictable, and the final outcome of the storys were all very similar. I am a HUGE fan of SGA and SG-1 however. I wished SGA went into a little deeper territory. If they release the new movie soon it might be cool if they explained the destiny for SGU, but I think thatd be a waste, as they have to tie up Atlants sitting in SF harbour. There will never be another BSG ever! But I think if the filming took it's cues from BSG style we'd have SGA.

@TelepathicPebble SGA deserved what it got...sure SGA had its fun moments (McKay, Zelenka, etc.), but overall as a show it failed horribly :
SGA was a carbon copy of the not-as-good parts of SG1, Plot threads that went nowhere, a lot more unnecessary 'fluff' per episode (or entire episodes of fluff, like the 'CSI' episode), a bad habit of introducing interesting aliens/technologies and then IMMEDIATELY forget or dispose them (the lost tribe of the Asgard...WHY COULDN'T I SEE MORE OF THAT?!)

@saskswinger2 What is it with this rising population of morons? The Vanir (who you call "the lost tribe") lost two of their ships and their one plan to be free in Pegasus was thwarted. It made no sense to have them return in the same season, especially since all that took place in the mid-season 2 parter. Perhaps if certain idiots hadn't been so eager to cancel it in favor of SGU, they'd have returned at some point. And plots that go nowhere? SGU went nowhere, period.

I loved Stargate Atlantis and had initially some restrictions about the new show, but now, SGU is a good show for me, more dense, more dramatic, not so fun like Atlantis, but different, with a great cast and production. I really wish Atlantis back and want SGU still be in air...

Watch SG-1 and SGA, and you'll see that character development CAN exist alongside a good plot/storyline. SGU fails to provide the plot/storyline and completely discards the action for the sake of ONLY character development, with occasional one-sided fights against alien viruses, bugs, beetles, etc.
Season two better be good. Lost sucked in its first season too, but this most recent season is epic. Let's hope SGU goes the same.

Dude, you posted this in 2008, and included that parody. It's like they took that parody seriously, and wrote the whole SGU show based on it. SGU is a parody of a real Stargate show, and the writers will reveal that it's all been one big joke, and season 2 of SGU will actually be the continuation of SGA.

I do have to say that this video pissed me off a little because of the total mis-representation of SGU. I completely agree! Every single stargate brought something Unique & different, i remember when SGA started and people were protesting that and wanting SG-1 back. Seriously 10 seasons & 3 movies is an amazing accomplishment. & on top of that another 5 Season Spin-off!? You can't do better than that without getting stale. I'm satisfied with SGU, it brings something completely new to Stargate & I for one love every second & charachter!

There should be more pretty fuckers like Scott (Brian Smith) or Chloe (Elyse Levesque)? Which are in fact the most annoying characters in the show along with Eli (David Blue).
I say those three characters make me hate the show, but Rush (Carlyle) makes me want to watch the show, because he brings back the old stargate feel, this show is missing a lot.
I just hope they don't kill Rush, because it would kill the little bit of stargate this show still has.
