I don't think they where ever REALLY officially gay, but i think the attraction was there.

I kinda witnessed a similar experience with my two friends both girls (one was a little boyish).. It was obvious that there was something going on between them, but they never really did anything like kiss or anything like that. They were in denial, when people noticed they'd say they are just friends, so I can't really call them lesbian.
