I have owned the oiled Dewalt 55155 for a few years now, technically oiled is quieter than oil free like yours tho dewalt may have built in a few features in yours to make it quieter but they are similar in design. That said its like any compressor, LOUD AS BOMBS and I built an enclosure around it and it was quieter buit not enough so I built a second enclosure around the first. Blowers in and out to keep it cool, a temp guage in the crankcase. you can whisper next to it but a PITA to service.
This would be a better demo if there was a second sound (e.g., someone talking) so that we can get an idea of the relative sound level. It's hard to judge how loud the compressor is when it is the only sound in the video.
Nice, great gift! I have the same compressor and I love it. My only complaints about it is that the on/off switch is in an absolutely terrible place and is difficult to access, I'm not sure what idiot thought that was a good place to put it. Also the wheels are kind of finicky, I pulled the cotter pin and put two large steel washers in place of the one plastic one and they roll much easier. Everything else is top notch.

I was in HD today in Amherst NY they have attached flyer to a handle on this air compressor, ask some one there, and when I bought this one they did not ask for the flyer, the scanner automatically adjust the price.
If I go to HD tom. I get few of those flyers and scan it to PDF.
This one is oil-less air compressor, price @ HD $349 but they also have flyer with instant discount from DeWALT Co. it should be somewhere near air compressors, attached to the shelf and that give you $60 off your purchase price.

Dear Everyonehasaidsok,the DeWalt D55146 is a very quiet air compressor when you compare it with most other air compressors! Many air compressors are so loud until you shouldn't be in the same room with them while they running ,unless you wear ear protection ! For the money the DeWalt D55146 is the most powerful air compressor I have found,and for it to run more quietly then most other air compressors is very impressive indeed !

Try the quietzone 4.6 gallon Twins stack. Its rated at 55 db which is quieter then most people talk (60db)
and its only about 280 dollars
I love it! its quieter then the Air powered tattoo machine I use with it.
