the thought of fixed gear bikes becoming illegal sends a shiver down my spine. if they were made illegal, i can imagine a fixed gear uprising, whereby it would become an underground movement that only takes place at night. just like in most post-apocalyptic science fiction movies.
Our bikes start at €370 which isn't particularly expensive for a complete bike in my opinion, but I guess it depends what you're looking for! Sounds like you want to get an old road frame, old road front wheel and crankset, bars/stem etc. then you only have to spend on a rear wheel. And for the love of god if it's you're first time riding fixed, use a brake! And have foot retention of some sort! The amount of kids I see flying around with no brakes or straps is absolutely terrifying and idiotic.
Graham from On Track here. Apologies @kavo59 if you find our prices a bit steep, we honestly keep our prices as low as we can. Profit margins are very tight on bikes and components as it is and we cut it as fine as we can, you won;t find any of our bits and bobs cheaper in any other bike shop in Dublin.
Online is a different kettle of fish altogether, shops can't compete with online vendors. If you are desperate to just get any auld fixie go to Rothar and they'll help you build one on the cheap
@kavo59 I'd say the dublin fixed gear forum would be your best bet for gear advice. I know some of the lads get their bits and pieces online from the UK, and the amounts being spent vary a lot from person to person. To be honest I wouldn't know much beyond what I learned making the video.
Would be cool if anyone invovled in the scene could offer some tips/advice?
@kavo59 Yep, check the dfgss forum online for lots of info on events and gear. Also drop into On Track on Cook St, the lads in there are very approachable and know their stuff.
Just after some advice, what looks better with a moustache, drops or risers? 'o_O'
