i dont get why people didnt like Faith of the Heart i for one thought that it fitted the series and i love the song, there going where there heart will take them out exploring space and can reach any star the words of the song fitted the show
Meh...I don't know. I always thought Faith was a good change of pace for Star Trek after the orchestra music of the first four. At first, my family HATED the theme (I was the only one to really enjoy it), but by about the second season, we kinda sang along to it. Dunno, thought it was refreshing and think that the people who didn't like it may have just been taken aback with that drastic of a change (or just too stubborn to accept change, if you can excuse my bluntness).
Like a lot of people I was intially taken back by a Star Trek theme with lyrics. But I got over it, and used to sing that song with my daughter a lot.
I didn't prepare this music, someone at Paramount did. All I did was marry it to the visuals. The music is basically the "Generations" theme, and if you listen to that, it does end with what I call the Enterprise signature.
I keep saying this to friends, but with this theme it would've last seven seasons. It's a befitting theme for the history of exploration of planet earth and beyond ... majestic and heroic, with a hint of the classic theme for the Phoenix, then a full blown few bars as the Enterprise warps off ... which is exactly what Faith of the Heart can do too!
I lied this version had that epic star Track feel to it unlike the one they went with it came off more like a family show like 7th heaven then a Star Track show but the other them was good it was just this one got the epic dramatic hero fell to it a lot more then faith of the heart
...still doesn't fit the star trek theme enough, mostly because theres no real build up of the music, its just THERE from the start, also there seems to be just a few too many instruments doing their own thing- i know its purpose but creates abit more noise rather than theme.
(or maybe thats just the limited sound quality available)
But even so, significantly better than what they went with.
So much better than the original embarrassment of an intro song. I remember the first time I watched Enterprise when the show just came on the air. When the intro started playing, my dad and I did a simultaneous *facepalm*
But I wouldn't put too much heat on Berman and Braaga for Enterprise's failure. I think if they had Jeri Taylor or David Livingston alongside them as Co-excecutive Producers or Supervising Producers this series may have lasted its full course.
Lyrics aren't bad as long as they're not in the actual song. Sing them in front of your TV.
Faith of the Heart was horrible - it may be lyrically meaningful, but it's musically atrocious. It lacks the sense of wonder and the "Trek" feel that all other Star Trek shows have had. I personally think that the theme song was instrumental in killing the show.
Faith of the Heart really isn't bad - it just doesn't belong in Star Trek. Give it to a new, emerging Sci-Fi show, and I'd be happy.
@lunchmeat317 i beg to differ i thought faith of the heart was a perfect song for enterprise i enjoyed voyager, ds9 etc but the intro was the same so i skipped over it i always listern to this intro as it reminds me what we could really achive if humanity ever worked together look at the ISS for example. not to mention my dream is to do exactly what happens in the show (live on a starship) it's probably why star trek really appels to me :)
@CaptainCrumple I'm exactly the opposite. I always watched the intros of Voyager and DS9 simply because of the majesty and awe that the themes provoked. Faith of The Heart makes me think of Kansas for some reason - some dude driving an old Ford, returning to his hom out on the farm. Faith of the Heart just doesn't directly stimulate my emotions as the other themes do.
The theme song they went with was them announcing to the world that Star Trek has jumped the shark. Some of the stories in ENT are alright, and there's not a thing wrong with the cast, but there are some things said by these characters that are not in keeping with the spirit of trek. Like not offering sanctuary, like revenge being totally ok. No no no, that's not trek. The actors deserved better than what they were getting.
The song was picked by one who is deaf. Generations works better here.
Never saw more than 2 episodes of Enterprise. 2 was enough. The whole series seemed badly misconceived and using the opening song was possibly the worst single decision. That is an opportunity to present the identity of the TV show and the song did absolutely nothing to help Enterprise succeed. Dennis McCarthy's music from Generations is a vast improvement. Pity the scripts can't be changed as easily.
This was the the opening music? Really? And I always thought it would have been "Archer's Theme", and therefore they used it in the end of the episodes...
Well, they at least gave it enough consideration to edit it in with sound effects to try it out. I didn't add that "warp out" sound effect at the end, that was in the original audio recording.
You are surely aware that the theme for ST: TNG was lifted from the 1st Motion Picture? There would have even been a precedent for recycling a movie theme for a subsequent TV series.
I will say this, the timing on this theme with the events on the opening were very well timed and fit, especially the last few seconds of it with the reveal of the NX-01. Good job syncing it up, though better video quality would be great.

I wasn't a fan of Faith of the Heart but I think this is terrible too! It does sound start trekkie but in a completely generic way. It has no "rising action" it is just too flat. Even Faith of the Heart was better than this.
This just doesnt fit the intro segment is about the leap men have made through the ages and all the struggles they have went through to make the first enterprise. This just doesnt go with the opening segment the other song fits perfectly in my opinion
ST:Generations is an excellent piece of music - one of my ST favorites. I don't think Faith of the Heart killed the series, but I surely like this music better - or alternately - Archer's theme.
There was plenty wrong. The made it as a prequel but used a hackeney future storyline thus eliminating drama. And instaed of using the past to show us how the trek universe formed, they just gave us aliens of the week we would never see again.
Did we really need the kretassen? Why not make it the Yridians? Or soemthing fo that kind.
Enterprise only becamse good in year 4, when itactually became a prequel. And it was awesome. But it was too late.
Exactly. I always wondered why they featured a storyline about time travelers from the distant future of Trek in a show set in the past of Trek.
They didn't show how the conflict with the Klingons formed, they didn't mention the first war with the Romulans; just far too little interaction and development with the races we wanted to see.
I really don't understand the argument that Faith of the Heart killed Enterprise. After all, if the writing and direction were good, the characters interesting, and the stories a fresh on original ideas, then who cares? If the opening is what REALLY did in Enterprise, then it just confirms the worst stereotypes about Trekkies ability to get butthurt over nothing.
Oh, nice video by the way. I don't think Faith of the Heart's THAT bad, but this is good too.
Classic Trek Tune - I wish they had gone with an orchestral track rather than ripping off a Rod Stewart Song thats been used in a movies Already - Dont get me wrong Faith of the Heart is lovely, its just not very trekkie.
I really think they should have switched to something like this by season 4. Probably wouldn't have saved Enterprise from cancellation, but would've been more Star Trek
It does sound nice to me too, and if they had used it I wopuldn't have objected, but it would've been just another Trek intro to me, not standing out. I like the one they picked, the early one, not the faster paced one they later used.
OMG...you have got to be kidding? I have been a Trek fan since the '60's and I love Enterprise! Why...besides the fact that it's a good show...it has ...hands down...the best intro to any show that I have ever seen! Also...I have studied and met fighter pilots and test pilots for the last 34 years!!! All of our early Astronauts came from these career fields...and still many do! I think the intro to Enterprise explains this! You don't like it.. you don't know history!
Well i disagree with you InsanelyViolent , people do like Faith of the Heart , my friends sing it all the time just like i do , i cant seem to remember what film this piece of music came from , thou it is a Star Trek one so that narrows it down easyly .

I agree. The intro video along with the song as it is seems to connect yesterday, today, and the future and add hope and confidence that we will make it to the stars. A very reassuring song, tho i'm glad Rod Stewart didn't sing it on this version.
Not bad. I've always liked the "" thing "Enterprise_ did (I've since discovered that the anime _Planetes_ does a very similar thing), and I like this music better. It just... it doesn't seem right for a Star Trek franchise to have lyrics.
This is what they should have used.
