The best thing to do is to connect your ipod/iphone/ipad to itunes then click *restore* (it will be visible when you connect your gadget).. even tho' it will erase everything Its the easier and quicker way of getting' into your gadget.. But if your signed up with icloud then obviously you can back up all your stuff again.

If you dont plug into the computer its registered with, you must do a forced restore... look it up on apple.com or something
