OMG at video provider, you are wrong. A native fijian has and will have to participate in any traditional fijian gatherings, births, birthdays, anniversaries, death, chiefly titles, school, tourist, clan, tribe and more. Traditionally every native fijian has one way or the other do the 'meke' its compulsory without argument. Whoever told you that many fjns hvnot do meke-evidently did not took traditional fijian languages and culture back in high sch. Vinaka :)
vinaka vakalevu! actually, we have improved a lot since then, if you look at us doing the vuki malua or some others in the videos. and, honestly, there were plenty of kaiviti who had never done meke before we kaivulgi came along...
Whhahahahahaha, sa yawa sara ga oratou na white people. You guys could have asked those kids for the war club and some fijian fan and maybe some grass skirt, that will seal the deal. Anyways thats an A+ for me.
wahahahahahaha...THAT WASS SOOO ADORABLE!! *wipes tear* I was laughing thru the whole thing!! So weird seeing another race doing the meke but it was very gud :)
I am pleasantly surprised. I too find it amusing to see foreigners immersing themselves in our culture. It's a good thing though. Understanding, mutual respect and appreciation...you know, all that good stuff. ^_^
I don't know why, but as an American with Pac-Islander descent, I find it cute for foreigners to dance in islands. Gosh, wouldn't it be awesome if the Fijian did some bagpipes, or the riverdance...that would be cute too. You know, a bit of a cultural exchange if you will.
awesome meke guys :) karua ga ni sova na qereqere e na dela ni kava...
