Whale meat does not contain dangerously high levels of mercury. Whales caught in the antarctic sea, atleast, only contains 0.027 parts per million which is a lot lower than the 0.3 ppm danger level.
If you are a vegetarian, then you can be against whaling.
If you are only against killing whales, but are ok with people killing other animals, (for example chickens, fish or cows) then you are a bloody idiot.

i agree with both of you completely. Their only arguments always deal with cuteness and emotions. And the whale levels are back up (if not very close) to their levels 100 years ago. And the EPA doesn't take animals off its endangered list even if its in good shape, so thats not really an issue. And also, whale meat is good, and blubber is a great thing too. And why would you only be angry of whales? If anything get mad at how they treat cows in the slaughter house, or chickens.

Responsebe harvest from what the nature give us is accepted, over fishing/hunting of any species is wrong. It is well doccumented that the type of whales the Norw harvest on is plentifull. We can not let our feelings dedicate, if you do not have the hart to kill you should not eat meat. I am more appolled on how we farm chicken and beef than what i see from the harvesting of whales. However, for Norway it is no economic reason to harvest whales as it is only a few vessels involved.

Many different whales are. if you want to do "research" then follow the migratory routes, see what they eat and how intelligent they are. lots of research has been done on whales and not at any costs to the whales. if you watched them instead of killing them you may be astonished at what you learn and grow to love them as free gentle giants and not as food.

But all "developed" countries still lack protection for all animals, to be killed cruelty free. Yes this includes animals raised for food in the US. Whales, dolphins and humans are currently the only known sentient (self-aware) species on the planet. All three have highly developed languages and think for themselves; they are not governed strictly by instinct. Whales have been here for 50 million years, thats over 47 million years before humans began to evolve. They deserve our respect, and we should begin to keep OUR species wrongdoings in check, before all edible animals are extinct and we have to revert to cannibilism.

Japan is catching only Mink whale which abounds and is increasing in the ocean.The number of Mink whales is 760,000 (IWC:International Whaling Commission,1991).So every countey has the right to utilize the rich natural resources and preserve the traditional culture.

in all of these posts, the only reasons posted for not whaling are they are cute, they are endangered, and they take forever to reproduce. other than the reproductive rate, neither of the others are viable arguements. i dont like it so you cant do it. if you eat food or live in a house you have displaced animals and when did plants not become living oranisims? and ill take a scientists view over "endangered" versus sustainable any day of the week.

I grew up in a farm where you have the little cute lambs being born in the spring time. Beautiful creatures. But we need the food. It is called circle of life. Balanced hunting is never wrong I believe.

i agree with both of you completely. Their only arguments always deal with cuteness and emotions. And the whale levels are back up (if not very close) to their levels 100 years ago. And the EPA doesn't take animals off its endangered list even if its in good shape, so thats not really an issue. And also, whale meat is good, and blubber is a great thing too. And why would you only be angry of whales? If anything get mad at how they treat cows in the slaughter house, or chickens.

No animal deserves to be slaughtered in any way, shape or form. Whales are not being saved because of how "cute" they are. They are being saved because of the type of torture they endure due to whaling. We have no need to hunt whales. It is only due to lack of compassion, greed and ignorance that this slaughter takes place.

Responsebe harvest from what the nature give us is accepted, over fishing/hunting of any species is wrong. It is well doccumented that the type of whales the Norw harvest on is plentifull. We can not let our feelings dedicate, if you do not have the hart to kill you should not eat meat. I am more appolled on how we farm chicken and beef than what i see from the harvesting of whales. However, for Norway it is no economic reason to harvest whales as it is only a few vessels involved.

'this is cruel' does not deserve ridicule. don't be insensitive. whaling is all the more cruel in that the purpose is completely unnecessary. i do love fish, i do love meat, i do love poultry, but the killing of whale and dolphin (etc) for 'research' is ridiculous, and deserves ridicule. these are animals that we can't farm, and they do not reproduce rapidly enough to justify their slaughter.

cows and chickens on not on the endangered list and nearing extinction. Many different whales are. if you want to do "research" then follow the migratory routes, see what they eat and how intelligent they are. lots of research has been done on whales and not at any costs to the whales. if you watched them instead of killing them you may be astonished at what you learn and grow to love them as free gentle giants and not as food.

I had to do a project on this in school last year... and i'm not sure my facts are right with out my work but they are now killing more whales now then before the ban
An to post under me, it's bad because there are going to carry on untill all the whales are dead meaning it will have other impacts on the sea life and animals that depend upon the sea too such as birds... it's not just one thing they will kill off

ALL "developed" countries can make a difference by outlawing cruel slaughter techniques. If the species is not endangered and your country relies on them, fine. But all "developed" countries still lack protection for all animals, to be killed cruelty free. Yes this includes animals raised for food in the US. No country is completely innocent of this, as far as I know. I feel it's only acceptable to support humaine slaughter of any animal.

Whales, dolphins and humans are currently the only known sentient (self-aware) species on the planet. All three have highly developed languages and think for themselves; they are not governed strictly by instinct. Whales have been here for 50 million years, thats over 47 million years before humans began to evolve. They deserve our respect, and we should begin to keep OUR species wrongdoings in check, before all edible animals are extinct and we have to revert to cannibilism.

A lot of people are saying that millions of cows and chickens are killed each year, which is much more barbaric...but I have to agree with you, I place a higher value on animals such as whales, dolphins, and primates (humans being at the top) because of their intelligence.

think before you write bitter comments..common..whales are extraordinary animals and all that..and they're beautiful..but the species are not at risk..at least the species we're fishing..plus...they're eating a lot of our fish stocks and fishing is our nr 1. exporting product..so for us it's quite ok to hunt a whole lot of them..and whale is a good meat..we sell a lot of it out of the country..it's just the way of life..as long as the specie is not at extinction....then its OK

I am very opposed to whaling but let me tell you something without insulting you. Many whales are already on the endangered list. I eat other meat and I am healthy. I live without whale meat.take a look at the whale watching industry? They make good money and you get a good rep. plus the whales are safe. Cows (female whales) only give birth to maybe 1 calf per year. you kill more than that. P.S whales are not fish so how can you be fishing....you mean whaling!

Hey frettey- ever tried japanese human meat? Its great barbecued too. Its got this soy flavor to it. Try some and I guarantee you'll understand my point- as my personal harpooning technique with an H&K would be merciful and painless, and abide by ancient cannibalistic traditions, including eating of the heart and brain. People have mentioned hunting for food and cultural rights. All of that falls by the way side when you watch footage like this. Whale hunting is not a necessity for anyone other than small Inuit groups. It's insulting to those with intelligence to bang on about sustainability and cultural rights. Traditionally many countries exported slaves, not all traditions deserve salvation. Question to those who advocate it, what's wrong with having a tradition of whale watching instead of hunting?

Japan is catching only Mink whale which abounds and is increasing in the ocean.The number of Mink whales is 760,000 (IWC:International Whaling Commission,1991).So every countey has the right to utilize the rich natural resources and preserve the traditional culture.
Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Canada are also whaling on this thought.

Today the japanese whaling fleet is heading for Australian waters to hunt the endangered humpback whale - as well as other species. These same whales are the ones that whale watching eco-friendly ventures rely on. Which of these two businesses are sustainable Japan!?!? Wake up to your crimes.

The problem with these whales is that they have a very low reproduction rate. One female will have just one baby after a year of "pregnacy". There are better commercial stuff out there... and do not think about women -.-

Its not hunting food for survival its hunting because it viewed as a cultural right to do so. If whale hunting stopped in Norway, Iceland, Japan and yes the USA! No one would starve. So dont use that excuse...its sad and will only ever convince those with small IQs. Its got nothing to do with deystroying rights or an attack on cultural freedom either, this is to do with saving some of the most important animlals on the planet, end of story. Better to understand than deystroy surely?

Yes, it would! It's really wrong. Did you see the whale's dorsal fin? It was half cut off! If they're going to hunt whales, at least don't let them feel so much pain! There's a difference between hunting a sustainable food resource, or killing animals that are reared for food and whose production is completely controlled by humans, and killing wild, unmanaged animals of dwindling number.
