  • The two top comments might be the greatest top comments in the history of youtube, and possibly the internet. Also, they violate Godwin's law.

  • @gamegloss How do they violate it? Does it state something besides that the probability will approach 1?

  • @gamegloss You can read them yourself.

  • Of course, since in USA we live in a fascist propeganda state populated by ignorant bigots, such comparison is liable to be correct, and thus its inevitability should not be surprising.

  • I've heard that Hitler was against the use of nazi analogies in online discussions!

  • The new Godwin's law is crying troll. I fail at arguing, ergo, you are a troll.

  • Wait a second... The running gag in this episode is "Don't Mention the War".

And they just talked about nazis...

  • @9breakerODST

Well, the Nazis still existed before the war actually started.

  • You know how Hitler died...

He took an arrow in the knee

    So: ------KNEE---->

  • @MrLo0lz he was protected by his socks

  • so according to this rule, bill o'reilly has never won an argument. as soon as bill starts speaking over his guests and pointing his hand out of frustration you know theres a kkk/nazi reference.

  • There was an older rule a friend of mine told me about to do with school boys having a debate... It's the same rule, just... with school boys in an all boys school. Mind you, it can't be that old... like, it can only really be as old as, you know, 1939... But, anyway, does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

  • Or nowadays, the probability of "some kind of projectile in a mid leg joint" being mentioned also approaches one.

  • what would happen is that the ennemy is likely to be atrue and you would probably lose

  • Comment removed

  • The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit svastika - "su" meaning "good," "asti" meaning "to be," and "ka" as a suffix.

Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.

Google is a Nazi propaganda machine :D

  • @COEXISTential end of discussion

  • @Shift4chizzle löl

  • The nazis made laws and laughed at talk shows

  • Now we know there is a TV program where a whole room of people will applaud a picture of Hitler...

  • @Krolblach actually they were applauding the long sock, not the person wearing the long sock. It had previously come up in the episode that Rob Brydon was a big fan of the long sock :)

  • As an argument grows longer the probability of anything and everything being mentioned is increased. If the argument were to continue ad infinitum then by definition the probability of all things being mentioned will be one.

  • arguements on the internet is like the special olympics. even if you win your still retarded.

  • @maccaaccam99 You evil Nazi! Oh wait...

  • GODWIN RULES, OK.

  • Ahh, but Hitler wouldn't have said that

  • Really is a pointless law.

  • @TheDefiantBadger But a true one, who has not seen the thread where someone actually says something as silly as that.

  • @viciouswolf1111 A lot of people I'd wager.

  • What if your responding to an obvious racist that has swastikas all over there YouTube channel? Which I have seen. Have I lost debates in the first line when I say how abhorrent racism is and use the obvious connections to that fascist organisation? I'm to frightened to name it now, although, does that rule count when you ask a question?

  • @speebyda Being that the argument was about the use of swastikas I would say that you are aloud to in that case, by the way, we must remember that the Swastika is actually Roman.

  • @viciouswolf1111 the swastika is actually egyptian

  • @stfanani And of course half of Roman creations were stolen from Egypt, and the other half from Greece. :D

  • @viciouswolf1111 well you are sort of right there. but I am pretty sure the swastika was outright egyptian, it was a hyroglyph. the influences from greece and rome were mainly in architecture, engineering and religion.

  • @stfanani The "other half from Greece part was for a laugh" by the way, but If you go to the Roman ruins in Pompeii you shall see that the Romans stole the sign of the swastika for their tile architecture. By the way, when you say "from greece and 'rome'" what do you mean, are we not talking about the Romans taking from Greece and Egypt.

  • @stfanani the swastika is a symbol from many ancient civilisations, but i believe the earliest example is indian. In indian culture i believe it is a sign of luck

  • @TheJamieBellinger Yep, this is just bs xD though it might be MORE LIKELY. But yeah, give a man a mask and he will show his true colors, no better place to debate.

  • Oh, isn't it obvious? Hitler represents the height of inflexibility of thought, right?

So, if an argument is, essentially, two people striving to communicate their perspective to each-other, and neither is willing to compromise, they will gradually become increasingly inflexible in their positions.

So, basically, there really IS a little nazism in all of us.

  • hitler killed millions of people but saved millions of foxes

  • NAZI !!, just because i had to :)

  • This is why atheists win so many arguments. God-botherers really want Hitler to have been an atheist and aren't shy about saying so.

  • Discussions used to lead to a comparison with Hitler or the Nazi-Party, but then they took an arrow to the knee...

  • A bunch of middle aged people talking about the internet... they should quit before they start to be honest.

  • I really like Godwin's Law, but there are some instances where a Nazi comparison is justified. For example, the EDL came from the BNP, which was an offshoot of the National Front, which was founded by members of the British Order of Fascists, which was essentially a British Nazi party. It is not unreasonable to bring up the Nazi histories of such groups when arguing about the BNP and EDL.

  • Well obviously, since there is a probability that Nazi's will be mentioned, as the argument goes on longer, there is the same probability spread over a longer period therefore it is on average more likely. If something goes on for an infinite amount of time, then there is a certain probability that everything will happen, an infinite number of times.

  • Hitler wasnt such a bad guy. After all, he did kill Hitler..

  • I think, at least partly, the attractiveness of "Godwin's law" (granted it may be somewhat accurate) is premised on the subconscious associations one makes with concepts like "God" and "Win". Namely that of "success", "authority", etc... Just a hunch though

  • Well of course it's true. If any discussion goes on for long enough eventually any and every subject matter will come up.

  • I was once called a nazi in an internet argument (I say argument - it was made up of about five comments in total), and I only wish I'd known of Godwin's law at the time - would have shoved it in that stupid bitch's face.

  • I think they are right and if you disagree you're a fucking nazi!! LOL

  • I feel like bringing up Hitler when it comes to cultural attitude towards minorities, or doing what one's government orders and the morality of law, is a valid invocation of Hitler/Nazis.

  • @randomusername36 as you should

  • fine fine socks!

  • Someones Blackberry go off at 0:01?

  • God bless the fuhrer.

  • @charliemctruth

Hail Mighty Fuhrer of ze Sausage People!

  • everybody in the modern world secretly respects.the nazis

  • @carpet691 doubt that very much

  • I think Hitler and the Nazis are used because it's the only unequivocally "bad" group of people and ideology that everyone agrees on, and therefore is a good thing to use in analogy.

  • am I alone in thinking Hitler was ahead of his time?

  • @carpet691 Yes, he was a pre-internet troll.

  • @carpet691 No.

  • That's something Hitler would have said...

  • Say what you will about Hitler, he did kill Hitler.

  • @N0nC0mprende But he also killed the guy who killed Hitler.. What a bastard.

  • @Nameless164 But he killed the guy who killed the guy who killed Hitler

  • @Nameless164 And the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler and the guy who killed Hitler killed the guy who killed Hitler.

    Yes.

  • @Nameless164 that the most intelligent thing iv ever seen in a youtube comment you sir deserve a cookie.

  • @Nameless164 you hurt my brain

  • @breakinggreens That wasn't difficult, was it...

  • Lovely socks...

  • Well at least Hitler never argued on the internet

  • Comment removed

  • Nazi.

    I just lost the game.

  • america sucks

  • if discussing nazis then two camels and a tiny car will end the discussion

  • The thing is, the Hitler comparisons came about originally in political discussions about President Bush and his administration. The thing is, Bush and his administration were actually implementing many of Hitler's political tactics. Godwin's law came about as a way to distract people from the problems Bush was causing. Well now with Bush's efforts the world is in a tail spin. Perhaps we should have listened more to Bush's critics back then.

  • @thehomelessguy Hitler didn't invent said political tactics, so there is no reason to invoke the name when arguing against it. If you can't make a logical argument against something without making such a wrongheaded comparison, then you shouldn't be arguing at all. It adds nothing to the discussion and only serves to distract.

  • @NekoSOM Actually Hitler did either invent or invoke those political tactics, and is known historically for said tactics. Revisionists like you only make the world a worse place.

  • Even on here people are trying to start a Godwin's Law argument.

  • Hitler: Hated fox hunter, killed 6million Jews.

    No irony what-so-ever.

  • @SeanTheOriginal Sounds like he was a modern day animal rights activist. "Save the whales, fuck the people".

  • Godwin is the master troll!

  • I honestly was expecting him to say "the longer an internet argument goes on, the higher the likelyhood of it turning into an argument about religion gets."

  • @haolihfaioefh Maybe that's Godwin's second rule of internet arguments?

  • hitler

  • was i the only one feeling slightly flustered and out of breath when Fry said "thread"?

  • Hiter was a fan of QI

  • what is this show? British TV looks awesome

  • @Sonofkong0 QI or Quite Interesting.it's a very good show.

  • @hufflepuffy95 it's not a good show. It's an amazingly brilliant show!!

  • This is utter crap. Godwin's law states that the debate will eventually contain a reference to Hitler or his regime but to extend this, as not originally contained in the law, to say that the one who makes that analogy is therefore the loser or the debate must end at that point is no more intellectually sound than the suggestion that the one who smelt it dealt it.

  • @MartinJWillett That's what Hitler and the Nazis reckoned.

  • @superhooper1983 Jog on Hitler

  • @MartinJWillett

Well this is the internet, 95% of the debates here will not be talking about Hitler in a strictly academic sense.

Godwin's law is like relativity, works most of the time, except at the quantum level.

  • hahaha Thank you Mr Godwin! (and Steven, by extention)

I have been waiting for someone to academically comment on the overuse of Hitler in internet threads!

  • well idk about Hitler, but the usual thing is to start insulting each other's country and all that and of course remember WWII, who won it etc :) I personally see a lot of Russia vs USA flame wars because I watch many Russia-related videos :) Technology often comes up, i.e. "our tanks are better than your tanks" etc.

  • Actually the longer any conversation goes the probability of anything happening is 1.

  • @darkhawk1979 Yes, but the law also states that the argument is deemed over as soon as Hitler or Naziism is mentioned. That's what makes it different but not really sort of not maybe possibly probably not who knows.

  • @InFlam3sW3Trust Spot on, but I was just pointing out that part of the law is a redundant statement. You mentioned Nazism and Hitler so any argument we may have is already over lol!

  • @InFlam3sW3Trust No it doesn't. Ignorance of the law is no defence.

  • @darkhawk1979 Approaches, surely. The longer any discussion is the chances of any particular thing happening gets more likely, because more things can happen in longer discussions, this must move the probability away from zero towards one. But the chances of a buffalo whistling Dixie in a pub discussion about West Ham always stays rather close to zero even if its likelihood does necessarily increase infinitesimally with every week that passes.

  • @MartinJWillett The only people who compare others to Hitler, are ones who no longer have any valid points to counter argue with. They have essentially lost because all they can come up with at that point is a completely unrelated attack on the other person's character. They've lost because at that point they've shown their lack of intelligence and tact and people like that aren't even worth wasting any more time on. That's why Godwin's Law is such a valid and astute observation.

  • @marzi444 That is the crystallized classic bollocks I have been railing against. If people act like Hitler you can and should compare them to Hitler regardless of how long you have been discussing a particular subject and if the similarity is valid then so too is your point. It is absurd to pretend that Nazis, arrogant people, undemocratic manipulators and totalitarians don't exist! They do and it is not only right but our duty to point them out.

  • Mine don't end like that, they end about my atheism! :P

  • @Itheanonymous That would be more appropriately called Godwin's Law lol

  • During an internet argument, the word "fag" will be used at least three times.

  • @andysido Per post, or do you just know a lot of polite internet users?

  • @SonOfHighValour Hmmm, I guess it depends on whether the person's IQ is below 70.

  • I was once in an argument on the net and the person I was arguing with was genuinly one of those neo nazi thingys. It said so on his/her profile

  • Dumb argument. The longer a conversation goes the higher the probability that ANYTHING will be mentioned.

  • oh god, if these comedians got wind of /b/ we'd all be screwed.

  • I frequently use a Nazi analogy... Though, arguments never end on the internet!

  • Grammar "Nazis" anyone?

  • stephen fry hair has a hitler feel to it.

  • Thank Anon for that

  • Godwin's law is mostly abused anyway, fuck it. Might as well cook up a similar law about communists or bush's america.

  • Arguments of any form follow the same concept, after a certain amount of time: It slowly becomes more like a garden-themed costume contest, because it stops being a competition about who did the best, and more like a mass of giant tools.

  • @DanteDouglas Darn it, hoped I sound like a memologist.

  • Only a show hosted by Stephen Fry could mention this.

  • Godwin generalizing all internet arguments like that is no better than what Hitler did to the Jews.

  • @aquablade That was so genius it's amazing.

  • @aquablade you just proved godwin right

  • @ASTEagle i·ro·ny1 [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-] Show IPA

noun, plural -nies. (especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.

  • @aquablade Hahaha I'm stealing this, thank you!

  • Hitler LOVED movies, comedians and porn. From this angle, Adolf could have been a 21st century slacker!

  • Is that Guy Smiley from Sesame Street...

  • I'm Naziated.

  • I find Hitler difficult to masturbate to.

  • @mphello LOL! - - - Try Eva Braun! : )

  • I have a rule for any argument, online or offline: Never let it go too long, otherwise you feel more and more like an idiot as time goes on.

I use this analogy: Long arguments are like garden-themed costume contests, because it doesn't matter who wins or loses, and it doesn't matter that the winner gets a lot of stuff, everyone still looked like a tool for participating.

  • Pretty sure as a discussion grows longer the chance of a comparission to anything moves closer to one.

  • I have my own law : if a vid has a lot of views and comments, the probability of a dicksplash posting a "thumbs up" approaches one. If you don't agree you're all as evil as Hitler!

  • @iceman2792 dicksplash made me lol

  • Ok, finally I understand Godwin's law. I understood the first part where using the hitler analogy is usually inappropriate, but the probability didn't quite make sense. Can Godwin's law also be adapted? I noticed conservatives don't ALWAYS" say Hitler. Sometimes they throw in a Stalin, or a Mao Tse-Tung, or a Pol Pot, usually when discussing atheism. Probably because they know Hitler was a Christian. Ohhh damn there I go with Godwin's law ;-)

  • That's not true o-o i've argued so many times, and Nazi's have never been mentioned :)

  • @ArghCake except now, lol. :)

  • I only wish that Hitler could have been alive to see this moment.

  • well you 'hmming hmme1r' it just shows that your a 'hmming' 'hmmer!' and all the other 'hmms!' have been 'hmming' with there own 'hmmen' for the last 'hmm!' why don't you 'hmmen hmm hmm!'

  • Hitler was a vegetarian.

  • Godwin's law = Fail.

Actual nazi's could get away with being nazi's, because if you'd point it out you apperently 'lose'.

Only complete dribbling retards would be lame enough to invoke Godwins law.

  • Everyone in the comments is Hitler.

  • Someone should invent a Godwins Law Asymptote Engine to stop this from happening fullstop... *nods* =P

  • OH MY GOD! Are people actually arguing about tha nazis and hitler on THIS video :| of all the videos... not this one

  • Godwin is a nazi.

  • @sarcee1960 i think you broke the system

  • Bagel.

  • You're all a bunch of god damn nazi's!

  • People have a frightening propensity to flock to flawed "logic."

People are so thirsty for the refreshment of truth that they're most willing to guzzle liquid bullshit.

  • ..Uh oh..should I buy a helmet on my lunch hour then..?!..?..!

  • The more comments a music video gets, the higher the probability Justin Bieber will be mentioned.
