Muito interessante um Roqueiro homenageando o Samba.

  • Chico Buarque Sucks! My friend.

  • Ótima letra da músic sensacional .

  • Great song, but what do the lyrics mean? Respect to his parents who named him after a (Dutch) enlightment filosofer!

  • DCoelho1968

In short: It's a happy tune but a rather sad story. João (John) partipated in the Brazilian carneval, danced in the streets, drank far too much, vasted all his money just for these few days of festivities. He kept on dancing, finally he tumbled, fell down (passed out) and was stepped on by the dancers. So he died of samba, cachaça and folly. =)

  • nicelly translated, Tigrama. Thumbs up!

  • @Tigrama

Thank you Tigrama. The way you described it, his destiny is almost desirable!

The way Carnaval is celebrated in my country (the same country as Erasmus, the philosepher he's called after) is very different though...

  • @Tigrama Thank you for the explanation.

The song has been translated into french by the years 1977 I think.

  • @DCoelho1968 the lyurics is about a drunken man at the carnival times in brazil.
