Good question. Before I looked at the lyrics carefully, I thought it was a love song (starry eyes and all that). Might still be, about a girlfriend who meddles in the band's affairs.

Or about a bandmate who sees stars (big dollar signs) but is never around to do the real work to make the band happen.

I can SO remember this LP. Going out to bars seeing live bands back then was such a rush. Just two guitars, bass, drums and really good songs.

Chuck! This song was off the only 'Records' LP I ever bought and I was listening to this in 1980 or 1981. There was this excellent period in music (in between the NYC punk scene and the debut of MTV) that featured some really fine musicians. Folks like Joe Jackson, Nick Lowe and The Tubes. It was New Wave before the synthesizers took over. ;)

@usmcfutball ,,,SOOO i was right..i thought i knew this sound..BUT i was thinking maybe some group re-did it LIKE the song,,,and it was then their song,,,,hell yeah,,i had this way back ,,read my bio..i worked with the go-go's etc,,,,and the LA punk scene late 70's. i worked on the film the decline of the western civ......

and yes,,nick lowe was a great songwriter too back then,,,i took my mother to see blondie in a night club,,it was unreal,,thse were great days,,take care
