rory can play better than this we all know that but he,s lettin bella play and he.s lettin the harmonica guy play, n if u listin u can hear rory playin jst no showin off as usual, nhe,s still the best person u,ll ever here
I was GLUED to ANYTHING Rory released back in the 70s. Special ordered "LIVE TASTE" when it was an import in the US (paid a whole $6.00! in 1976!) I kind of lost touch with his music in the 80s, then had a bandmate in the mid-90s who said his former band shared an equipment storage in NYC with Rory. He said, "It's such a shame he died..." I was TOTALLY CRUSHED! I felt like I'd abandoned him! Thanks for sharing this great vid! I've met and chatted with Bela a few times in N'ville.
Not many people can pull off wearing track pants, sneakers, some sort of woolen Peruvian quilt on their shoulders, play banjo AND sport a Mullet at the same time. That guy does.
I also love it whenever Rory jammed with Bella or Feltham... he always looked at them with such happiness and anticpation...... He seemed to really enjoy feeding back and forth with them.
@9903kateyes I sense that he may have been a bit high here mate.... This was very near the end, and Rory was quite ill. His liver was failing him. His arms are covered with sores...... So terribly sad, and like the amazing soul that Rory was, he played right to the end, collapsing onstage. But I agree, it sure is good to see him laugh. WHat I wouldn't have given to kick a few back with him..... God Bless You Rory
Tears when I watch this..such a beautiful and talented man. He contributed his uniqueblues rock style and always stayed true to himself over many many years he spent developing as an artist as we all enjoyed his unstoppable energy and showmanship. I was so sad to see him go.. just haven't decided till' now to express my opinion.
HankPoke. We owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Many many thanks for uploading this FANTASTIC clip. I have not enjoyed anything on YouTube more than this. I grew up in 70s and am kicking myself that I never saw Rory live! What an act.
...into "Walkin' Blues"(which Rory was doing since his early Taste days) and then, with confidence and enjoyment, they launhed into "Blue Moon of Centucky" which I had never heard Rory do in my life!
Taken from "WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS" as Donal Gallagher(Rory's brother) writes in the bootleg!
And a little story about it: Bela and Rory hadn't met before this encounter. Bob Dylan was on the bill, he previously had considered caovering Rory's "Couldn't have Religion" from Live in Europe(1972).As a request, Dylan asked Rory to play it for him at that night and it had been hoped that Dylan might come on.Rory gestured to the side stage for a jam and actually it was Bela that walked on with a banjo! So, to find their pitch Rory started the intro with "Amazing Grace", it warms up and gets...
gallagher went to call dylan on but bella thought he was to come on.
so bella comes on and rory is like woah ok ?
so they start playing amazing grace to get in tune with one another, rory kicks into blue moon of kentuck after walking blues because he is enjoyin it so much
sposedly rorys manager never heard rory play this song and here he was rocking out with one the best banjo players 5/5

can someone tell me what they think when i say that the banjo in this medley adds a certain amount of "humour" to the music?
that's certainly how i relate to it (possibly also why i have a smile on my face listening to the tune!)
