  • Hi Vixo94,

I would stuff the joist cavity with fiberglass or rock wool. Span the joist space that has the plumbing fixtures in it with mass loaded vinyl. Install Genie Clips on the bottom of the joists with furring channel and drywall. For real "Studio Quality" sound proofing use a double layer of drywall and Green Glue. The combo of the Clips and Green Glue,......Superb. JR

  • Hi Mawheaf,

$ 1,300 for a 10' x 8' wall !! That is $ 16.25 per sq. ft. The Genie Clips cost approx. $1 per sq. ft. !! Something wrong there. JR

  • Hi Maxgaga1

You have a tough problem. The sound and vibration levels are so high from this kind of a sound source that it is in the entire building structure. Just treating the floor will not do much. Sometimes putting a couple layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl on the floor gets a bit but at the end of the day unless you are willing to do all room surfaces or they are the best idea is to move. JR.

  • You guys need to consider this. Quiet Rock 525 Board on both sides of a stud wall get an STC (Sound Transmission Class) of 56. Cost $2 to $3 per sq. ft. for each side. Genie Clips and regular 5/8" drywall gets an STC 56 at a cost of approx. $.40 per sq. ft. each for the drywall and approx. $1 per sq. one side for the clips. They also have WAY better low frequency performance. Add another layer of drywall both sides STC 64! Save Money Better Job.

  • Hi, I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building, downstairs below me is a club/restaurant that blasts loud music, how do I block the noise that is coming through from the downstairs ceiling to my apartment? THe noise is loud and sometimes that is vibration too. The owner of the restaurant/club is not wiling to do anything about the noise. Should I put sheetrock on my floor to block the noise? What materials would I need and how would I do this?

  • this is much different than the clips that were sent to my work the other day...these look easier to install and overall better at reducing sound transfer. the clips we ordered were from a company in California. we got the clips/whatever they may call them, acoustic sealant, and a roll of thin rubber stuff that is used behind the insulation. all that cost 1,300, and its only for a wall about 10 feet long and 8 feet high. there is also a large window, and door in the wall, so I'm not sure

  • Does any one knows how to fix a celing problem?... The thing is that there are some drain pipes that u can actually see, where i will do my home studio and u can actually listen when somebody is urinating in the first and second floor (cos the room were ill do the studio is in the basement of my house) what is the better and not so expesive way to deal with this problem?

  • Great video! This will probably be how I build my new drum studio. I'm just trying to figure out if I should use QuietRock instead of sheetrock (QuietRock is equivalent to 8 layers of sheetrock) or put Mass Loaded Vinyl on the studs before I put on the Genie Clips.

  • @meisenburger Drum studios are always a challenge as that big boom wants to drive the building structure. Using Genie Clips effectively 'decouples' the interior sheet rock from the building framing stopping most of the vibrational transfer. You can actually do a better job with the drywall by using ordinary 5/8" sheet rock double layers with Green Glue. It has far better damping than the QR and cost less than a third. Hope this helps JR

  • Very good video. Well Made. Thanks.

  • Where do i buy it?

  • AcoustiGuard - Wilrep Ltd. 1-888-625-8944

  • @wilrepjill

I live next to a train station and airport. Will this help me? Sound is coming in from the outside.

  • This could help but likely the biggest "sound leak" right now is your windows. That's where I would look to first. There are companies like spc windows.com who have treatments for this. Ask for Mike. Then look at the walls if that does not do enough. Hope this helps. JR
