Grimgnaw is by far the best henchmen but in chapter 3 I think. In chapters 1 and 2, he is still getting really strong and Daelan Red Tiger is the better option I think. Besides, you can eventually learn disable traps and knock.
wierd..i only have the 1st game on my mac with no expansions and when i equip a cape it doesnt show on my characters back..is that because i only have the 1st game or can i change it so it shows my cape? thanks :)
Sorry for double posting, but I'd say Grimgnaw is much better henchman for a Wizard: Not only does he get Evasion -feats, he's also a melee powerhouse (I just love it when he uses Knockdown & Flurry of Blows). He also receives best saving throws and Spell Resistance on higher levels, meaning that you can throw just about anything in middle of the battlefield without hurting Grimgnaw.. also, remember to buff up your henchman with Stoneskin, Haste, Stat buffs etc.
Grimgnaw is a very good henchmen I could have chosen, but Tomi is really good at finding traps and such. However, I do see your point, last time I used Tomi he died all the time, and at the last part of the game he died for good and I couldn't bring him back. It is something to consider, maybe I will go back into town and get him when I finish the first district.
I would like to point out that as a Wizard you still get access to Rogue skills: take Pixie familiar. I know it's a huge tradeoff for Panther's Sneak Attacks (and you don't really need Rogue skills in NWN all that much, you could just bust doors open with spells & trigger floor traps with summoned creatures), but that's why I recommended Grimmy in the first place :)
You could get some unreal damage for Grim + Panther's Sneak Attacks though, so it's really up to you to decide what to do next.
I'd follow odin422's advice, it takes less than a second to punch V + W + E (Attak Nearest), other ones you might want to memorize are :
V + E + E (Follow Me)
V + W + X (Stand Your Ground)
Here's another tip: You'll get more xp if you beat enemies without using summons/familiars/henchmen (it's bit tougher, but nothing a Wizard couldn't handle). I'd also like to point out that Grease, Web and Fear are VERY powerful group control/disabler spells, always remember to use them!
Thanks for the tip, not using summons is a good idea, but I find it is a trade-off mostly. First, if I don't summon anything a huge part of my defense is gone and I would have to rest and reload way more often. Second, something I found is that if you have a lot of summons it compensates for lost exp by causing more powerful creatures to spawn in areas.

ok, everyone seems to hate henchmen because they dont attack.
SOLUTION: Hotkey the Attack Nearest shout and watch them work much quicker!
Peace
