You don't need to start select (or fake savestate) after each fail at the bonus, I'm pretty sure you can just jump back up there as many times as you want, because the cannonball respawns :P

Dude you could have just walked right through the last level of that area, there's no boss there and you would have wound up on the area select screen in seconds. :P

Also you didn't have to replay the level every time you failed the bonus area, the cannonball was right back there above your head every time.

And thank god you figured out to use diddy for those jumps, I think I woke up the neighbors yelling at my screen over that. :P

Windy Well has the most easily accessible coin in that level... it's literally on the second floor of the level and you don't have to go through many enemies to get there. You gave up way too early!
