i have the original version of rome total war on cd (no patches yet) and the oliphaunt cheat doesnt work for me in the ~ romeshell. if i click on a city or army, ~ oliphaunt, it tells me error command not recognised. do i need to get a newer 1.0 patch/version of the game from somewhere and if so where? plz help

Any empire can use elephants, as long as they capture a province that has elephants in it. I'm Egypt but i've captured Seleucid territory. Soon I shall be able to recruit elephants :)

Of course :). A good strategy when you're playing the Romans is to buid up your forces and get a massive army and then attack Carthage. Once you've taken the city you'll be able to recruit elephants because the Carthaginians use Elephants a lot in their country.

Also, make sure you take the city before the Numidians did. They tore up the Western Carthaginian Empire and I tore up the Eastern. Right now i'm in a war against the Numidians and it's progressing nicely.

It doesn't matter if you take it after the Numidians take Carthage, but if you are competitive and want to win it first go ahead :)

Hehe awesome. Egypt is a great empire to conquer :). Once you defeat Egypt you can play as Egypt next game :).

The Roman Senate annoys me, they force you to go out and capture these settlements etc and then if you can't get there on time they fine you! lol. Thank the gods you destroy them utterly when your popularity with the people is at its zenith.

Hehe I know the feeling :). I have a feeling of great satisfaction when I exterminate an entire people. It makes you feel good knowing you're the best in the world.

As Egypt my policy is to eliminate all those that stand in my way, provide the very best for my subjects and destroy the religion of the heathen gods, replacing their gods with mine. Sometimes they rebel but a little force always shows them who's boss hehe ;).

The Romans attacked me on Kydonia so I launched an attack on Sparta and have conquered most of Southern Macedonia. They fall like flies whenever I battle with them! Often they have superior numbers but I have Egyptian Chariots! Chariots tear through Roman Legions, they're terrified of them! Remember that strategy when you play as Egypt, Egyptian Chariots are the best units in your empire! :D

@AntinousIsGod1 of course,melee chariots(one on wich the riders got sword)don't really use the swords,instead the blades on the wheels,that makes them deadly,and can easily kill a legion in testudo,so i counter them with heavy cavarly or a triarii spear wall,anyway,since i got legions cuz of marius gaius reform,it changes ur troops,so it is best to hire a mercenary phalanx form caralis.........I always play as roman,and love to exterminate a barbarian populace,the sound of slashed human is sweet

Hmm, interesting. I have not exterminated many people after I take over a city, I enslave fallen enemies so it boosts my population throughout the rest of my empire. I do enjoy exterminating the population of enemy capitals though hehe. It makes me happy and shows them how stupid they were to follow their weak king when they should have been following me.

Your information intrigues me though, I shall exterminate more often now, seeing as it holds rebellion back. I get mad when my people rebel

some people dont like cheaters, i gave you a thumbs up to equal it XD

it can be to do with versions of rtw, older versions allow the force_diplomacy and oilphant and process_rq cheats you can download patches from websites but i geerally choose not to as they generaly add in more things so if you want to play a game with no cheats you are stuck because it allows you to do instant recruitments anyway and unlimited money. i personally dont mind sacrificing my navy for a free campaign noletterslef

Other advice:

When playing as the romans (Julii, Scipii and Brutii) if you get the Imperial Palace (the structure you need when you have 24,000 population in a settlement) you advance in the game.

Trust me, i've been playing for 2 years.

If you use the cheats - process_cq *city name* to build your building in combination with your money cheat, once you hit the last tier of building, the Gaius Marius event takes place.

Or you can wait till your roman buddies build 1

The senate will never get to the Imperial Palace unless you give them money *IF YOU MESS WITH A CERTAIN GAME FILE YOU CAN PLAY THE UNPLAYABLE FACTIONS

then bribe them.

when i use the money cheat, i get it up to 32million denarii and just bribe all settlements i need it order to win the short campaign, then i use the cheat to automaticly finish construction queue until the settlement cant build any more structures.

I ofc use the add population cheat to do that, by then I just won the game in less than 10 turns.

Ok, when you enter the cheat, do you re-type the cheat in? if so, thats ok.

but if you enter a cheat, then press the "Up" arrow, you will see the last cheat you entered in.

So:

1. Type Cheat

2. Enter

3. Press the "Up" arrow

4.Check to see its the cheat you entered last. if so, press enter

5. Repeat
