What this girl doesn't get is that her father isn't a decent father. She keeps wanting his love but he just uses her for his own ends. I've, sadly, known many children (young and older) who keep trying to gain their parent's love but the parents don't recioipate it and never do. It tears their kids hearts out thinking they have done something to deserve it and it's not true. I absolutely know this:some parents should have never been parents. They are selfish beings who think their kids owe them.

I like a lot of this movie, but I am noooot a fan of Madeline. She just seems happy to be marrying this creepy old dude. It doesn't come off well. She seems like she doesn't even feel anything. I feel like it's kind of a case of underacting. D'arcy is giving and giving and feeling all this stuff and she's just like this brick wall. Even if she's resigned to her fate I think there should be a bit more hesitation and feelings for him.
