What a treat to hear these old Samoan songs. I'm an afatasi that was born here in the US, but was sentt back to Samoa (American & Western) every summer when growing up. My Grandma made sure my Brother & I knew where we came from. Even though I don't speak Samoan, these words talk to me. The traditions, the love & respect that were taught to us will never be forgotten. Faafetai Tele Lava for sharing these very special songs with all of us!!

Wow, real Samoan style. No keyboards, just the Samoan style of singing and the beat of the pate or fala. And that is how it is done; not like many fake Samoan performances today that use modern instruments, and where people sing and dance like they're doing the hokey-pokey.
I actually came by the chant through 1990 BBC documentary "Trials of Life" with Sir David Attenborough, where it plays on the last episode.
I couldn't forget this beautiful song, so I looked for the lyrics - which isn't an easy feat for an Austrian :P ... but eventually I found them and now also the actual record. Astonishing!
Listening to our Samoan people sing traditional songs makes my heart cry with joy, wishing i could meet all our ancestors. Peace to all our Polynesian Brothers & Sisters. God Bless you for this video.

This conjured up some wonderful memories of my mum and dad. Thank you. :D

Queen Salote of Tonga, brought these songs to Tonga and was sung in samoan by her personal singers, it was known as her collection. Its good to hear this. Malo
WOW!! I'm a Native American and Native Hawaiian descent, and I also speak Samoan fluently. Hearing this song takes me wayyyyy back when we did a culture night with our samoan brothers and sisters, I got to get to know Ia Lavalava VERY well. It brought back memories, I had to stand up and do the dance we did to it. I still remember it!!!! Faafetai!!!
Native American and Native Hawaiian, and yet speaks Samoan fluently? WOW, that's impressive. Thanks for the comment I'm glad you enjoy the song and dance to it with such fond memories. Thanks so much for the comment
@Avataute Well i'm not necessarily fluent, but I'm almost there. That's what happens when you date a beautiful Samoan teine , I've been dating her for almost 3 years now. Gotta impress la'u pele ;)

Oh my gosh! I haven't heard this since I was a little girl growing up in Wanganui, New Zealand. I'm now 51 years old. Makes me teary-eyed because I wasn't proud of my culture as a kid, but I can say without any hesitation that I am so very proud to be a Samoan. This conjured up some wonderful memories of my mum and dad. Thank you. :D

Faafetai!!!

@Avataute Well i'm not necessarily fluent, but I'm almost there. That's what happens when you date a beautiful Samoan teine , I've been dating her for almost 3 years now. Gotta impress la'u pele ;)
