Its funny how history repeats itself. The Packers have benefitted more with the Clay Matthews pick, but thats probably only because there is more knowledge out there nowadays on how to get away with it longer.
Honestly I'm surprised at how smart and articulate Mandarich is. You don't usually get this level of intellect from a former offensive lineman. And kudos to him for getting his life together.
He is a tough guy. He went through a lot and made it through life and NFL with that comeback of his. I don't care if you name him a bust. For me he was a young guy that had his head in his ass and manage to pull it out. Not many people can do this or maybe can't do it.
if you saw the college films of him playing you would definitely pick him. he threw people around and ran like a 4.6 at 315 pounds. its not like he had failed a drug test ever.
Based on attitude alone, I don't understand why Green Bay would ever want him. Nor any other team. The same bad egg was in Ryan Leaf. Immature, cocky, completely devoid of a work ethic. Thought he could just jump straight from college ball and easily win Super Bowls.
armen katayan looks like hes really enjoying himself when mandarich speaks of how embarrased he is for the green bay years....look up vince mcmahon slaps armen katayan, cuz armen is always trying to play down the athlete who admits wrong doing.
I give this guy alot credit for overcoming his pride and showing the courage and humility to make things right. I've gained a great deal of respect for this man.
Take my hat off to this guy. Thats what i call taking responsibilty for your life and also the mistakes and low points that happen. Reminds of a saying that starts....."out of adversity comes...."
To apologize and move forward takes courage. I am happy to see him admitting, apologizing and taking responsibility for something which he is not proud of.
Pretty cool video. Great that you were able to overcome the demons. That in itself is inspirational. Good luck to you for a good life for your self and others.
Decent video, good story. I remember all the hype this guy got coming out of college and the stories of his career crumbling. It's nice to see that he's been able to overcome a lot of hardships in his life and is living happily now after so many years of pain.
I think I saw the first part couple of days back? But, this NFL presentation is pretty cool, and I am not even a fan of NFL -great stuff! Gave you all stars
I remember the first SI covers. I do hope this fellow does not suffer from any ill health problems from his addiction... Regards SRA

I do admire him for admitting this. But the Packers passing up on Barry Sanders hurts. It just hurts.

Strange how sports works. Right after this, Brett Farve falls right into their laps.

A great lesson here!
