One of my all time fave bands, saw them like 9 times. 3 times right when nothings shocking was about to come out. Just sooooooo damn good, true originals!

@dimebagsixx Word, man. Best concert I've ever been to was in Oct, 2001 in NYC. Everyone needed to let loose in a positive way, and Jane's was perfect!
Perry had so much charisma from 85-91, of course being very young and insanely high most of the time probably helped with that, still doesn't change the fact that he had amazing charisma for a front man.
nobody was doing ANYTHING close to this in 1986 let alone when they peaked in 91. i'm sure perry is no easy person to deal with every day on tour, but he WAS janes addiction. the music was legendary, but so was perry and his fearless attack on life. he was the real deal in an era polluted by fabricated hair-bands created by the studio engineers.
janes addiction were a much welcomed dose of authenticity and real life danger that had been lacking from rock for years - and still does today.
i used to take acid by myselfwith the three songs in a row taped over and ove playing with my headphones on in the complete dark in my waterbed alone.. it took me to some amazing places..janes is my fave not classic rock band... i got to see them on the ritual tour. best show ever. THANKS TO THE GUY WHO POSTED THIS. IM SO JEALOUS THAT IT WASNT ME WHO SHOT IT!
omgosh wow i graduated high school in "90. i was a stoner acid head that pretty much hated glam. i figured i was born to late. dug pink floyd, zepp, beatles. ect. did like g&r's first stuff. but one day i was trippn ballz and my friend PUT in nothing shocking, this came on and i was never the same. it was early 89. i sat there listening to up the beach and ocean size completely blown away. then summertime rolls. wow...
So many killer influences you can hear and see through Perry... Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, etc. I must say however, Marilyn Manson is such a F'n rip off of this guy its shameful... (not to mention suxxxxxxxxx)
@ZiaK9 I had that same thought before about Marilyn Manson attempting to rip off Perry Farrell (and yeah, definitely not being able to do it at all). I wonder if a lot of people think that.
I was at this gig as well as many others such as scream, john anson and the paladium matter of factly.I remember people I went to school with would go to see GnR at gazzari's and I'd laugh and tell them no thanks I would be seeing jane's down the road the next night thank you very much.
god I misss being a youth growing up in LA in the 80's.
growing up in la in the 80s was a bit like growin up anywhere in the 80s....simply a very creative time...i think history will show this...i'm from ireland and got turned on to these guys in 89 by my CAL gal who was travellin around my parts spreadin the word...I will be forever grateful to her for the music she shared with me....she loved Cali...it was home
Wasn't confusing the 2 scenes & MTV is not my source-I was there; what I said was when Jane's arrived there was 2 distinct crowds who never would have co-mingled otherwise-Jane's brought people from both scenes together. And metal people didn't hate them-true, some initially scoffed, but it wasn't long before they were running to their shows dressing like Perry & trying to catch up. Jane's influence cannot be overstated. Nirvana blew it all up, but Jane's rigged the building w/ the ammo.
Yes...Jane's played "outer" clubs like Scream to avoid being put in the same catagory as GnR and the likes. Remember: Perry was already older and had some experience in the LA club scenen and also his name was based on the word peripheral, meaning "on the outside."
Ya know... this got me thinking. Back in 86, how did their music go over in the LA scene in that era... compared to Guns n Roses.. then against all the glam metal bands like Poison that were all playing that scene at the same time.
i was just thinking the exact same thing talk bout bein ahead of the game, and striking out in a new direction. In all honesty pretty much all of the 80's was really lame for the most part!
They sent shock waves. In the LAclubs at the time, there were 2 distinct camps-the folkie & alternative rock types fIREHOSE, Dancing Hoods, House of Freaks, then on the other side was the glam rock crowd, LA Guns, GNR, Poison. Jane's didn't pander to either but everyone came to their shows. Jane's had a punk rock aesthetic but were Zeppelinesque in scope-it was like all the punkers who secretly sang Stairway to Heaven to themselves could celebrate. Nothing like when Jane's hit L.A. Nothing.
Well, I can speak to this: guns and poison were from a completely different world than Janes. It's only because of MTV and stuff that you think they're linked but at the time in LA Janes was a hip band with a small coterie of fans, mostly hip college kids or art dropouts--miles awayf from the glam thing. You shouldn't confuse the two scenes, which is what it was, two mutually exclusive scenes. Remember: metal people hated Jane's, thought they were homos, it was complete unacceptance really
They both ruled this town together. On some nights you could have seen both bands live at different venues, like John Anson Ford and Scream. Boy those were the daze.
That GOD I discovered these guys back in 1988!!!!! Thank you Thank you

Interesting to note: A lot of Perry's vocal style comes from traditional Jewish music. Just louder and more aggressive.
