The screaming in this game is by far the best thing in it! Some of the baddies will actually scream 'Ooooohhhhhh Gooooooood!' in the arcade version. xD

@firewallsniper I remember those kind of nights, lol. 1 time, I think it was either Easter Vacation/Spring Break of 1986 or '87, a friend & I rented from Block Buster, a Sega Genesis & several games, then stayed up for 2 1/2 days playing, hehehe. I do remember that when I defeated Death Bringer, the axe landing in his chest couldn't be processed, so he was killed by his own....pixellated graphic glitch.
The arcade version pales in comparison to the MD version. Its hard as hell to get properly good at because you can't hit the enemies who are just outside the screen like you can in the MD version. It isn't nearly as long and the only bonus is that if you're the dwarf your axe is now golden.
Death Adder isn't difficult and Death Bringer is overrated. Some people would have you believe you can't beat his skeletons. You can. I've did this game on one life but it took a lot of practice.

What do you mean the Arcade was superior? The Genesis game had an extra level added to it (which was a big deal since it wasn't a very long game), and had an entirely new gameply mode called Duel Mode.
I just beat this game a few minutes ago, I didn't think it was too tough. I thought the last boss was fairly easy. As long as you dodge his heat seeking fire then he won't use his dragon and you can just constantly jump attack their asses. Ending lasts forever though.
The genesis version is actually harder than the arcade. The arcade only has 5 stages. The genesis turned death adder into "death adder Jr" in the 5th stage and added the 2 extra stages. The game is also not THAT hard. I beat it and there are a zillion harder games out there.

The emulator has nothing on the original Genesis. The one with the headphone jack rules. Plug in some decent headphones and you'll see why this game was that damn good.

Well, to be fair the XBLA version is a arcade perfect port. It's based off the arcade, so no 2nd Death Adder. Plus, you get achievements for something you've already practiced for on the Genesis!
I beat the arcade game, so when I played it on Genesis and found out that they added a new boss that could use magic... it made me mad... because he's friggin' hard!
yeah he's REAL hard! His skeletons are the worst though cuz they have infinite health, so they're there as distractions. Dont let him hit u once or he will do a magic attack after he struck u down. Can u say '2 hit combo??' lol.. And the magic attack he uses depends on what regular attack he did on you, the best thing to beat that douche is to give him running attacks, may take long but hey... at least he aint summoning that fucking dragon! xDD

It's not the original Golden Axe cart, but on the cart 6-PAK which comes with 6 Genesis games. It was a budget title for people who where late on buying a Genesis. Look it up on MobyGames or Wikipedia to see what all it came with.

Wow! Now I feel really good about a) playing it on a (used) Genesis and b) finding it so easy to finish Death Bringer! Maybe it's because I cheesily spammed the flying kick or tended to save my magic until I could summon a dragon of equal size myself! (I always played Tyris Flare the Amazon!)

Totally agree. Plus at 1:05, that is NOT death adder, it's death bringer. Come on, it's not that hard to research the game. Finally, no mention of the Amiga version; which was the most faithful of all the ports from the original arcade. I will happily say though that the Megadrive version is the best version, but still, if your title is going to be about Golden Axe at least mention the other ports.
I never played it on Sega (only in the arcade). The one for Sega looks like it sucked only because they cut out the "blood sprinkler" after you defeat Death Adder (when the blade of the ax thrusts right on his chest). I know parents would've complained about that, but I thought that was cool in the arcade version. I did'nt like the dragon part or getting "gang banged" by those two anoying skeletons while you fight Death Adder! How freakin' cheap!
I owned this game, Death Bringer all takes is the timing of everyones favorite - Run - Kick..Combo, plus all that work to Death Bringer was worth it alone JUST for the music
The skeletons do have unlimited health because my friend kept try to kill them off first before he fought the boss and he lost all his lives. when you get 2 skeletons on you your screwed

Totally agree. Plus at 1:05, that is NOT death adder, it's death bringer. Come on, it's not that hard to research the game. Finally, no mention of the Amiga version; which was the most faithful of all the ports from the original arcade. I will happily say though that the Megadrive version is the best version, but still, if your title is going to be about Golden Axe at least mention the other ports.

Only way to beat Death Adder is the jumping down thrust attack.
Kills quickly.
Just make sure those skeletons aren't in the way.

I just played this game and beat it today!
On mame of course. It was a lot of fun.
However I didn't see the flaming dragon attack the last boss is supposed to use on you.. WTH?

I never played it on Sega (only in the arcade). The one for Sega looks like it sucked only because they cut out the "blood sprinkler" after you defeat Death Adder (when the blade of the ax thrusts right on his chest). I know parents would've complained about that, but I thought that was cool in the arcade version. I did'nt like the dragon part or getting "gang banged" by those two anoying skeletons while you fight Death Adder! How freakin' cheap!

I owned this game, Death Bringer all takes is the timing of everyones favorite - Run - Kick..Combo, plus all that work to Death Bringer was worth it alone JUST for the music

Actually Death Adder is pretty easy after you find out what to do.
All you have to do is keep ramming the skeletons and Death Adder with your shoulder to keep them from attacking.
Hell I've beat it 3 times doing this.

The skeletons do have unlimited health because my friend kept try to kill them off first before he fought the boss and he lost all his lives. when you get 2 skeletons on you your screwed

Don't download it no. LOL I downloaded it and it looked just as good as it did back in the day. My Dad use to play this game on his computer back in the day. I guess there was a PC port too.
