I can't say that I prefer this version to the Reinhold version, but I will say that I had goosebumps from about 3:30 all the way to the end. Pretty epic.
I have narcolepsy and i can trully relate to the sound of this song... and that what makes it sooo beautiful.Since now it is as inspiration to me to " translate" my condition in artistic expressions.
People don't seem to like the song with the orchestra, but I thought it sounded awesome. The look of pure bliss on Ben's face at 3:51 is just awesome. And then the drop right after that to Ben's soft vocals and his piano was perfect.
I prefer the original track, but this was awesome either way.
Does anyone else hat these arrangements? I seem to be the only one. I just think he should've done it like it sounded on the record. But Ben's still brilliant.
@bringyourownslinky yeah i am sorta on the fence about it. Ben just on the piano is perfect, i dont think the orchestra really adds to it, in fact it sorta takes away from the over all charisma that Ben typically has when playing
@bringyourownslinky lol.. then why not just listen to the record... /facepalm... these arrangements are amazing.. and who said it drowns out the piano? clean out your ears..
I think this song is awesome with or without an orchestra but seriously that backup singer is annoying. Don't people cry at the opera? His voice has that sound yet there's no emotion in it. I liked everything else.
I absolutely adore this song. I adore Ben Folds' song-writing and piano talent, I adore whoever decided to put this song with a symphony orchestra -- there is absolutely NOTHING I dislike about this video. I cannot convey how impressed I am with this. Stunning.
im 37 i discovered ben about 4 years ago, and he changed my life with his lyrics and somtimes quirky out look on life. i have never said this about any man. but i love this bloke. one of the greatest song writers of this century. keep going ben never stop.
@haunch1 That verse does the same for me, though I didn't discover it until I was in high school. This is the one song I have ever heard that makes me explode with goosebumps every time at the same instant: "Save me, wake me up!"
from a person with N: epic depiction - musical hallucination - I'm floored at how incredibly well Narcolepsy comes through in this piece. MY lord, Ben Folds, you MUST it have to render it so perfectly The xylophones were a nice and unexpected touch. The sole piano - the way you play - THANKS
he seemed flat because he was supposed to be flat to create a contrast between them. didn't you notice how when the orchestra picked up they were flat, and seemed more dull while folds was sharp which made his part seem lighter and happier? its like that to create a sort of contrast which is reaallly hard to make sound good, but they did it really well.
I may be wrong, and I'll not try second-guessing Ben's and the orchestra's ideas but I think the general idea was some dis-harmony, and they certainly acheive that! Maybe think of it from an artistic level.
hey dude, just thought i'd say that my name also happens to be caleb mayo (weird, right?) and that i also think ben folds is amazing. coincidence? no, because he's amazing.
Still on the fence a bit here...will give it a few more listens. Some bits are breathtaking/fantastic, some seem tacked on - when the orchestra enters it's as if someone has spliced a different film in! Not sure about the other singer either. Maybe it's just that I have been compulsively listening to the original for 8 years!

this is a class song, I don't understand how ben can write songs as amazing as this, he's like a modern day mozart, just much different music.

The people that transcribed his "piano band that rocks" into orchestral music deserve a lot of the credit.

The tenor...? "the tenor" in fact is benfodls one of the greatest musicians of our time.
JPerrin10 3 years ago
I think he meant the dude who joined/bumbled along with Folds towards the end.
MrBadnasty 3 years ago 2
Yeah, that accompanying singer was...not that great. He seemed to get a little flat when he had to harmonize.
Ah well, the dude's obviously a professional tenor, which is a bit of a jump from a part originally just meant to be performed by Darren and Robert.
Sprocketman 3 years ago
