It takes balls of steel to be able to get in the ring and perform your very best according to your training. I have been in the ring before and it can be really stressful. This match was disciplined. I really enjoyed watching it.
Blue gloves is my trainer and a hell of good person. Chris Tran is probably the most patient, knowledgeable, and caring Kru I've trained with. Trust me when I say, any low/illegal blow in this bout was purely an accident.
I'm pretty sure this is a pro fight. No protection, knees to the head, although didn't see elbows and those gloves could be 16's but uncertain. But these dudes fight with a ton of composure and no shin guards. Almost guaranteed pro
This is in NYC though. In America, for better or worse, amateurs at the very least wear shin guards. And unless they have had a number of fights, usually head gear too.
MT has a much stronger foundation in your region of the world; kids start sooner, more people train, and overall there is a solidified tradition.
Unfortunately, MT is very much still developing here, so such measures (protective gear) are taken.
Fortunately, MT is developing nonetheless- we're trying to catch up!
why arent they relaxed, thats number 1 rule in every camp in thailand. right when u start training. even before u start training, u should have already been taught to stay calm and relaxed every fight.
wow sounds like you're an experienced fighter.how many fights have you had?fuckin keyboard fighter wannabe.speak from experience not from your asshole
Lol i'm sorry you have to put up with this bullshit, you're absolutely right though. If you aren't calm, your muscles will tense up, causing your punches and kicks to become stiffer and slower, thus less powerful.
The Thais have a different mentality. They offen start the first round very "calm" and then raise the pace in every following round.
So there is also a difference here: Amateur fights last 3 rounds. Each round lasts 2 minutes.
Pro fights are 5 x 3 minutes. So you can put everything in right from the start.
And the last is: Every gym teach different things. Not all Thais fight that calm you claim. Even if you are a "calm" fighter... what if your opponent doesnt want to fight "calm"?
I watched the fight again and I have to say that they fight very pro like. Sure the pace is high, but they take their time to plan their attacks. Did you ever see an amateur fight wich was the first one for both fighters?
Not sure i completely understand the first comment, but Chris dominated that fight. He pressed the action from start to finish. The point deduction for the low blow was a legal shot. I watched it over and over. It appears the guy was hurt by the knee to the midsection and cried foul to recover. Even if it was a bit low it was incidental. Since when do you take a point on incidental contact. Is the ref from the Jay's gym?
first of all i was there in person and i saw it myself he did get hit in the balls and no the reff is not from our gym and the gyms name is sitan gym so watching a video means nothing being there in person is. mamaguebo vete par carajo
With video comes the benefit of slow motion review. I reviewed this repeatedly and the knee strike was not to Jay's "balls," unless, of course, Jay's scrotum is positioned a few inches below his navel. And I know the ref is not from Sitan's gym. I just thought is was odd to take take away a point immediately (no warning). This is Thaiboxing after all, and incidental hits to the groin are not uncommon. That's what the cups are made of steel.
i had a fight where i kneed the guy accidentally in the "steel cup" n then hit him in the stomach. the moment i hit his stomach he grabbed his balls n went down. not sure if i got any pts deducted but it was one of the rare times i gotta hit him. my knee was swollen from hitting the steel cup n i still believe that theres no way his balls would have felt anything behind that that thick steel....

no protection doesn't say anything about pro-fighting here in holland we only use protection under the age of 16

One more reason is the excitement (you might know this, if you would have had a fight).
In my first fights I was so nervous and tensed up ... although my aim was to stay "relaxed".
