Watching this video has me feeling nervous, see I'm going to build my own cannon soon and was wondering if it's better to have a manual trigger mechanism, or if it's smarter to have a distance trigger (sorry i'm tired and can't think of the right words to use here).
So should I fire the cannon from a distance or was this sort of accident a one off mistake?
Actually whats the best ignition fuel to use as well? Lord knows I don't want to blow my hands and head off.
@sirAthrus I have put some metal rings around mine and also attached a kind of bipod so I c an place it on the ground like a mortar. I ignite it with a lighter but can stand beside so I wont get hit of a the lid or the bottom flies off,
@BlanchProductions it went off in my ear, sounded like a stun grenade in cod 4, almost burst my ear drum, i reckon, couldn't hear properly for a few minutes :P
Yepp, this is one of those explosions that are felt not heard. I pressed the button, and: Bbbiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggg... :o ?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!??!?! :P
It feels like you got punched in the chest, and then you get dizzy and your ears ring for a minute.
low explosive = the pressure wave travels equal to or slower than the flame front/fire ball. e.g. aerosol in a fire
high explosive = the pressure wave travels faster than the flame front. e.g. dynamite
to contain high explosive in a gun that size you need 2mm steel (guess). plastic or aluminium even if strong enough to begin with WILL fatigue and get weaker, solvent, shock and heat damage contribute to this.
Ah yea that was me with the loud omg, this video is every potato gun shooters worst nightmare. If you look at where the cap shoots if it was angled in any more it could have ripped into his side and really hurt him. But it was pure luck that got him off unharmed other than a badly ringing ear. Oh yea and because cell phone sound mic suck it bearly picked up all of the sound, all 5 of us surrounding people had considerable hearing lose after explosion, which thankfully has returned
The question is not, are you all right, the question is what the hell were you thinking moron?

I used oxygen and acetylene before, it worked a few time before that happened.
Made it really powerful.

Pneumatic is the best way to go. Safer and a lot more powerful.
