i learnt that you always pull your yarn through two loops, which makes your slip stitch how i learned to do a single crochet and a double goes through the loop you cast over the needle in the first pull through and you only pull through twice.... now i'm confused as to which is the correct way!
Ooooh, thank you! I was JUST fiddling with learning crochet yesterday when I was home with a cold. I was getting the idea, but wasn't getting comfortable with it, and I found working in the foundation chain to be really slow and fiddly. I'm so glad to see that the later rows aren't nearly so slow. This video is very clear and it's incredibly helpful to actually see someone holding and working everything alongside the written instructions I have.
@tyler62126 Depends on the classes offered at your particular school, and of course if you bother to take it because it would be an elective not a prerequisite.
I've been crocheting from almost 10 years and have always dreaded turning because it was never fully explained, but now I think I'll be able to manage!
@HayHay1224 Do you crochet into the back of the foundation chain, or into only one loop? I know a bunch of folks who learned that way, but I've never tried it. I hear they're good shortcuts, though!
@HayHay1224 this is just the "foundation" chain. the single crochet is much easier, but the foundation makes it thicker and look nicer, you do not have to do a foundation like this, just work single crochet for all.
Great video of basics! I used to be able to croacket a basic chain (never learned how to turn)...that was about 15 years ago and I've long since forgotten. Might try learning again!
thanks so much for the tips! using a stitch marker is such a good idea! thats where i would always get super confused and lost when trying to crochet....i never even thought of doing that before haha... :)
I have been crocheting for more than a year now but have only been crocheting in the round because I didn't understand the "slip stitched to turn" concept. Thanks!
@singingawolfsong If you head over to the full post on CRAFT, I included a glossary of the crochet terms that I used in the video, plus an overview of hook sizes and yarn weights. I hope that helps!
thanks!
