  • LAST QUESTION... i promise lol

Does the users manual have info on what all the plugs and connections on the back of the rack do?

  • @waterbuggg Yes... each device has a topic or two in the help file (or a page or two in the manual) about the CV and Audio connections on the back of the rack. It's all in there.

  • whenever i try to use a matrix sequencer with redrum the pattern i copy to the song never plays...... do you know why that happens?

  • @waterbuggg Let me first say you should read up about the Redrum and Matrix in the user manual. I also don't know why you're not hearing the pattern play the drum. Make sure after you copy the notes to your sequencer, you move the note clip to the Redrum lane in order to hear it. Also, you need to use the note keys C1-A1 in order to have the matrix notes work in your redrum lane. Those are the notes that correspond to the 10 channels in Redrum. Hope that helps. Consult the manual-it's all there.

  • @Phisequence Ive tried everything u said (except read the manual which im going to do asap) but still no luck...... when i click run on either redrum or matrix it works....... but when i hit the play button to hear the actual song its not playing the copied pattern, its still running from the rack...... ive googled this issue and quite a few people seem to have had the same problem

  • @waterbuggg Hard for me to troubleshoot without actually seeing the file. email me on youtube if you want to send it. But I don't have all the information from you to figure this out. What EXACTLY are you doing. What are your steps? Are you copying the pattern to track? If so, is your matrix pattern placed on the Redrum lane? Did you turn off the redrum pattern by disabling the pattern there first before playing? You should be hearing something.

  • @Phisequence i have the worst fuckin luck... the flash drive i was workin on the song broke but i remember the steps i did to connect the matrix to the redrum

    1) create redrum

    2) create matrix

3)connect 'Curve CV' of matrix to ' Pitch CV' of given redrum channel

4)connect 'Gate CV' of matrix to 'Gate in' of same redrum channel

that lets me do everything BUT copy the pattern to track... idk maybe i missed something? im gonna start reading that manual in the meantime lol

  • @waterbuggg water, I have a feeling your notes are on the wrong keys in the Matrix. Try this. Do your steps 1-3. Then in step 4 make sure your notes in the matrix are on the keys I outlined earlier. If your Matrix is connected to channel 1 in the Redrum, then you have to shift the Matrix to Octave 1, put all your notes on key C1 in the Matrix BEFORE you copy the pattern to the track. So now, step 5 is to copy to the redrum track, and poof. Your notes are playing channel 1. Does that work?

  • @Phisequence ur a fuckin God... it worked i appreciate that man! im new to reason so im just experimenting with sounds and the ins and outs so I can get comfortable with everything... i see what youre saying about how to drum channels and the keys correspond now

thanks again... and i just subscribed to ur page

  • @waterbuggg Happy to help you out. Thanks for subscribing. :-)

  • @waterbuggg Part 2 of 2: Just a suggestion, but you are probably better off using the built-in Redrum Sequencer instead of the matrix. It's a little easier to get your feet wet. The thing to understand if you use a matrix with the Redrum is that each matrix can be connected to one Redrum channel. But since the Redrum can utilize keys C1 - A1, then you can draw a pattern in the matrix using only those keys, and copy to the Redrum track, and those notes will translate to the drum channels (1-10).

  • @Phisequence yea youre probably right... i was just thinking it was easier as far as changing pitch and curve on one sound....... but the curve gets null and void when i bring it back to the redrum track it seems... im glad you could help tho, i just gained a little more experience which was all i was looking for really

  • @waterbuggg Well there's nothing saying you can't still use the matrix (curve only) to modulate the pitch parameter of the redrum. Just leave the matrix in the rack and have it run after you copy the notes to the redrum track in the main sequencer. Or, alternately, you could automate the pitch parameter in the Redrum track. Right-click over the "pitch" parameter in the redrum and select "automate" and draw in an automation curve in the automation lane that opens up in the sequencer. easy as pie.

  • @Phisequence ur a beast....... im naming my first composed song after you when its all said and done....... keep this shit up and u might get an album title lmao

  • @waterbuggg Can I have your first unborn child as well? lol. Seriously though, the more you experiment, the easier it all becomes. Trust me. Just spend time playing around in Reason and you'll hit on all sorts of interesting tricks. Good luck to ya!

  • @Phisequence lmao u got urself a deal... thanks man

  • @waterbuggg waterbugg, email me through youtube, instead of posting multiple responses to this video. We should take this offline because it's getting to be a very in-depth conversation and this isn't the right venue for that. Not to mention youtube can't handle long responses and such. So Private Message me if you need further assistance. Rob
