Speaking in tongues has more than one use. It can be used to spread God's message to others whom speak another language, or it can be used when there is an interpreter. Also, it is a prayer language between one's spirit and God. I believe that anyone who receives the Holy Ghost has the ability to speak in tongues, whether they do when they receive it, may not be exactly necessary.
@jossan92513 Interpretation is NOT "evidence" for tongues, it is for the priority of edification of the entire body. While it is clear that Paul calls for an interpretation of tongues in the context of the operation of the church, it is also clear from Acts that he had a value for laying on hands for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and tongues (Acts 19:6). Some churches have elected to pray for the baptism in a separate venue, which is a possible solution to this apparent conflict.
If I speak in a language of men and of angels I Corinthians 13:1 .... there you go tongues is the language of God through the Holy Spirit. It is a wonderful gift.
@ilovpolitics1 The tongues of angels are earthly spoken languages. Can you name an instance in the Bible where angels spoke to men but couldn't be understood? It's not gibberish no one can decipher.
@filoIII Angels spoke in earthly languages so earthlings could understand it. So this means now that our languages on earth are the same languages spoken in heaven? I think not.
@denoinwa That's definately man's logic coming from you. Again, where IN THE BIBLE does it say angels speak some language we can't understand? In every case, as far as I know, the angels spoke earthly languages. You must fit your theology to the Book and not make the Bible fit your theology.
@filoIII I would put it more in line with common sense. The fact that Paul distinguished languages of angels from languages of man should tell you something. It is only your human (bias) logic that ignores it.
@denoinwa You give me your logic and I give you Bible. If you don't know "tongues" are described as earthly languages, then the rest of your theology is suspect. Acts 2 explains it all. Come out of the cult of charismania.
@filoIII The Bible CLEARLY says there are tongues of angels. Your biased logic and human understanding wont accept it. That kind of blindness for agenda's sake makes YOUR theology suspect. Because God miraculously spoke to nations in languages at pentecost, you are and your ilk want to forumulize tongues to suit your agenda. Your formula doesnt work with I Cor 14, unless you want to discard or butcher it like you did tongues of angels. Come out of the cult of your morality club christianity.
@Adonomos I cant do the research for you, but if you cared to look, you will find a well-documented historical church from the time of pentecost to now.
@Adonomos ".....those persons "perfect" who have received the Spirit of God, and who through the Spirit of God do speak in all languages, as he used Himself also to speak. In like manner we do also hear many brethren in the Church, who possess prophetic gifts, and who through the Spirit speak all kinds of languages, and bring to light for the general benefit the hidden things of men, and declare the mysteries of God," --Irenaeus (130-202 AD) Against Heresies, Book V.
The Church Fathers like St. Hilary of Poitiers belonged to the same Church that preserved his writings.
The Church does not deny the Gifts Of The Spirit, for the Church was established by Them.
What you have presented does not prove your from the same fold or your fellowship is of the same teaching. Meaning to express certain gifts like tongues, doesn't mean you can attach yourselves to the Church of the Fathers.
"Continuous Apostolic Truth" presumes a church functioning in its fullness, which is a false belief. Augustine said, "For who expects IN THESE DAYS that those on whom hands are laid that they may receive the Holy Spirit should forthwith begin to speak with tongues?" And you think this isnt historical record of the gifts being denied? Think again. You underestimate the human capacity to deny the Holy Spirit on behalf of tradition, which is NOT the primary guiding force in the church.
There are other examples other than what I have quoted here. While it may be true that there were periods of history where the gifts of the Spirit were denied, the potential of which is clearly seen from the tradition you belong too, it is not grounds to continue in ignorance.
@Adonomos The head of the church is Christ, and ANYONE joined with Christ is of the same fold. To think anything else is heresy, a perspective fueling dissension, and an idolatrous dependency on FORMS AND TRADITION. There is no "new teaching" here. The scripture is clear. Who are you to demand proof that a person is of Christ? This notion is delusional absurdity.
@denoinwa Heaved up heresy? It's confessed by the heretic!
There is no new teachings? What do you call 3500 heaved up denominations out there with all there different teachings?
If you claim your not in that mix, then you are delusional.
Many groups like yourselves connect yourself to the Holy Bible by your own preferences but the Facts started 2000yrs ago and your preference 20yrs ago.
ONE 2000yr old Truth! If your club doesn't make the years then you hold to a false heaved up doctrine!
@Adonomos I will help you out further. Here is Hilary (300-367 AD) "For God hath set same in the Church, first apostles...secondly prophets...thirdly teachers...next mighty works, among which are the healing of diseases...and GIFTS OF EITHER SPEAKING OR INTERPRETING DIVERS KINDS OF TONGUES. Clearly these are the Church's agents of ministry and work of whom the body of Christ consists; and God has ordained them."--On the Trinity, Book 8 Chapter 33.
Read Acts 9 verses 14-17....Peter and John went to Samaria when they heard the people there had accepted the word of God. They prayed for them by the laying on of their hands to receive the Holy Spirit because these new believers had only simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them. When I was confused about the Holy Spirit, these are the scriptures God showed me.
After Peter spoke to the people who were amazed, they were cut to the heart and asked what they should do. Peter answered that they should "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise (the Holy Spirit) is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the lord our God will call. (Acts 2, verses 38-39).
Nope you're missing the whole point here in what the scriptures was truly saying.. When Peter stood to address the people each and every nationality heard Peter in their own Language he didn't speak in different languages, He he only spoke one tongue, but they are heard him in their own tongue.. There was no need for Cornelius to receive another natural language because he wasn't addressing any one. The Lord gave him a heavenly language.
@bubba007sss That is to say that all the unbelievers in the crowd who heard would have to have been given the gift of interpretation of tongues. Are you saying that they received this gift of the Holy Spirit yet in the church we need to have specific interpreters blessed with this gift and the Spirit won't allow each of us to understand as did the unbelievers who were at Pentecost?
@jrmaximus What is the difference when Jesus prayed for a withered foot that grow to it's original form in front of all those nonbelievers, or for the Lord to let the nonbelievers hear what Peter was saying in their own tongue. God is God and he can do any thing, but to place limitations on God's ability is denying the very existence of God's power all together..
@bubba007sss Men are men and they will at times let flesh enter into there midst, but that doesn't change God one bit, He's still the same God as he was yesterday. Why place God inside a box and then sit back and dictate how it all should be done. God works with our unbelief, and their isn't a one of us that can say that we haven't believed at times, we all lose Faith.
Yes Apostle Paul corrected but he didn't call then children of the Devil either.
@bubba007sss I don't limit God at all but regarding sound doctrine we either read the bible in it's proper context considering the whole book and not assume our own ideas into it or we go by only what is said. Though this could sound like that is what happened it brings into question why then do we need interpretors for the act of speaking in tongues when it has, if that is the case, been demonstrated to not need it.
What is the purpose of tongues in light of your view?
@jrmaximus Are you telling me that each one of the men with Peter spoke in all those different languages and nothing suprernatal ever happened all because it doesn't line up with your reasoning? What did Apostle Paul say about tongues? If you deny tongues then you also have to deny prophesying.. Because both would cease to exist after the death of the Apostles. Don't you know what Apostle Paul said about interpreting tongues in the church? When Peter spoke all understood what he said.
@jrmaximus Think about this" for some reason you think that these people had to have the Holy Ghost to understand what the Apostle Peter and others were saying to be able to accept it was something supernatural that had taken place. Remember the Bible said the people were in aw all because they heard them speak in the native tongues. I wouldn't be in aw if I heard each man speak in a different language, but I would be in aw if I heard one man speak, and we all understood.
@bubba007sss I completely understand. A matter of fact it is a view that I seriously consider. I question this view myself in the same way I am questioning you with the intent to determine what is most probable as the correct view.
The other half of this is the purpose of tongues, the fact scripture says it's a gift not all receive though Pentecostals etc. say it's required proof of Holy Spirit baptism, and false tongues and teachings about it rampant in the church.
@jrmaximus My view makes more sense then the view in this video, and stands to reasoning why the people were so in aw of the Apostles on the day of Pentecost.. Tell me would you be in aw if you heard each man speak in a different language? I doubt it, and neither would they.. Nope each one heard Peter speak in their own native tongue. Apostle Paul gave clear instructions on how to conduct a service when tongues are being used.
@bubba007sss Like I mentioned previously it is a point that I also picked up on. I do try to test any view I come up with against other thoughts on something. You are actually only the second person I have found who has come to this conclusion besides myself. I apologise for my need to make you defend it but it helps to strengthen or (if you could not defend it) weaken it as a viable perspective in my own mind.
@bubba007sss Another question is - those who heard asked 'are not all these that speak Galilaeans?' so they knew them as men who could not speak their native languages. It was not just Peter speaking at that time-it was the group of them.
When Peter spoke to the crowd it doesn't specifically say he spoke in new tongues at that time but could easily have spoke the common language of the people in the region as opposed to as it says the 'language wherein we were born?'
@jrmaximus You have a point there, but who was Peter addressing? Every Nationality there. How would they of known what Peter was saying to them with out an interpreter? He didn't need one because the Holy Ghost was present. This is what I tell people," Tell the Lord you don't believe in them and be honest with him, he can handle it, but at the same time ask him to give them to you if they are of him.. God won't Lie to you, and he loves our Honesty
I have a Penecostal friend at work (I am Lutheran) who is trying to get me to "receive the Holy Ghost". But isn't that what Baptism is? I told her I would pray (privately, of course) and invite God in, but there is no way I am dancing and rolling and screaming. It is just uncivilized behavior. But, whatever floats your boat, I guess...
God is a faggggg!!!! Everyoine that watches this video should get skull fucked by demons from satans ass... Go drink the blood of your harlot mother of god and shut the fuck up about religion! Praise Allah and all of his teachings. I am his prophet Timothy and I say unto you... You will all burn in the firey pits of satans anus.
ran out of room. You will understand that he is explaining that the spiritual gifts are necessary for the church. Part of these part of these are prophesy are speaking in tongues, Prophesy he gave more weight because you could not fully explain speaking in tongues. Both of these gifts strengthened the Christian community. And Please tell me where in the Bible it says that I should remain Silent? what is portrayed on this video in my opinion in not speaking in tongue having the holy spirit.
@threadoftruth pardon me you caught me ...i meant to say "that only god can understand". Speaking in tongues is a way for us to communicate with God without Satan intercepting us. You say that "even the apostle would rather not speak in tongues.." Did you mean Paul? There were twelve apostles. And where does he say that he would rather not speak in tongues? I think you are only taking bits and pieces out of the bible. If you read the whole book of 1 Corinthians you will understand.
Great Video - I dont understand how anybody could think "tongues" is rolling on the floor speaking giberish that nobody can understand. The Bible is so clear on doing the very oppisite. Thank you for uploading & may God bless you
You quote 1 corinthians 14:14 "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful" That is exactly what speaking in tongues is it is praying in the spirit. It is a way that we can pray in an angelic language that everyone can understand. Why do you spend so much time making videos of things that scare you?? You are quoting things from the bible that make it even more clear to us that how we live now is the right way. Jesus is the way to eternal life.
@awise429 Actually you say "Everybody can understand it" when its actually nobody can understand it & they Bible clearly says to keep silent if your soul wants to pray in an "angelic way" but you are in church or people are around. So what you are saying is the oppisite of what the Bible says to do. Even the Apostle said he would rather not speak in tongues. How are you not understanding ?
I've been a christian 40 years, I've seen all kinds of things. I seen the Holy Spirit move men and women. I speak in tongues. BUT, I cannot stomach false prophets who PUSH people backwards and shout out it is the Holy Spirit. Liars and cheats. I know you don't have the gifts of the Holy Spirit the second I see you push. God is not in it if you push, you phoney.
@Tammiles his gifts include (believe it or not) knowing how to speak enochian tounges @ seeing the light that exposes the future of this world. (some refer to it as Foresight)
God deserves to be glorified! How does incoherent manmade "babbling" glorify God? Exactly - It doesn't. It only serves to continue to keep people away from Jesus and not drawing them to him. Thanks for taking the time to further expose and explain the nonsense that's spread throughout the world regarding this controversial gift of the Holy Spirit.
hmm, while the bible does speak of this, i've been literally shown things. This isn't always God's work, it's a demons at times. And guess what, there is no way to honestly tell which is which. God didn't tell us the whole truth. Demons are among the church beyond anyones comprehension. I've seen, beware.
Hahahahaha! You think you can put some dramatic music to make it seem more intense and its just moronic! I have respect for different cultures and religions but i'm sorry this is just fucking retarded.
worldslastchance Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1 .....'Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.'
What do you have to say about "tounges of angels?" You might want to consider sincerely inquiring of the Lord & removing your video. Tounges allow our spirits to pray & access God in our heavenly language -not with our own understanding- very powerful. No wonder there is so much deception about it.
@Shadowfaux2012 If I may.............."tongues of angels" as Paul was saying, was written in a purely HYPOTHETICAL context. "If I speak....", he said and he, Paul, was NOT indicating that he did, or there even exists an "angelic" tongue. Read the whole passage in context and this is very clear.
We have access to God through Jesus Christ, and no other way is Biblically valid.
These unknown "utterances" should be kept outside of the church.
@Shadowfaux2012 Where is "power" in communicating through sounds you don't even understand yourself? There is no Biblical basis for this.
God already knows what you're thinking before you even pray!
If I randomly strike keys on a piano and call it "praise" and "worship", who really cares right?
Unless I bring it into the church and try and convince everyone that my random noise is a miraculous gift from God which is evidence of the Holy Spirit. At that point it becomes sinful and worldly.
@worldslastchance why would you allow the devil to use you to up a video like this? To convince God's children to despise the gift that the Father has granted us? Woe unto you!!!
Those kind of activities are dangerous. We should not show on the internet people who are obviously not well. Their mental status is what God describes as frenetic and dangerous. They should be ashamed of their behaviors. Stop showing that video please.
there is only one spiritual directive..and that is to be respectful to all living things and to put it plainly.BE NICE to each other..this is the collective message of all these books in their purity..anything else is beside the point...and only leads people to be separated..my club is better than your club mentality...if you look at all the great teachers,Jesus,Buddha, etc etc the message is to be kind and treat each other well,period..this is true spirituality.it is simple yet not many do it
@iTEEZ the word nice is not written in the bible ,you must be born agian 2 get in2o the kingdom of heaven! true spirituality is obeying gods word under the power of the Holy Spirit .
@iTEEZ you will die in your own sins Jesus is the way the truth and the life and a real living person GOD. do not fall on your own understanding .the king of glory lives in my born agian spirit .you must be born agian to get in2o the kingdom of heaven.bless you .
@brakenlaker1 you "sir" are a delusional freak who have not learned a thing about Jesus' message..you poor poor creature.. i feel sorry for your surprise and dismay when you get the ultimate wake up call at the end of your life...but then we can't get angry and toss away the pre schooler for pooping in his pants or being a bad child.. it is to be expected..good luck with that you brain washed fool...lol
I cry for all you that are at odds with each other.I judge no one,for I know that God is the one Who tests and is alone the rightious judge...What will you say now? "I had a dream,I was over the North Pacific Ocean, the Humpback Whales, lined up nose to tail,on the surface of the waters and spelt out,"I LOVE GOD." I spoke that out loud in my sleep twice and the Spirit of God entered my heart.I awoke with a new song and melody. It begins with this."The most beautiful gift of all is the love of JESUS
good video, i think through the scriptures, you explained your point very well!......... I always found it uncomfortable when visiting pentecostal churches, where people could switch on and off speaking in tongues whenever they feel like it.
God will listen to you whichever language you speak - to speak words that you do not know the meaning of and even more so in a "language" which you do not understand is dangerous. You could be cursing the Holy Spirit for all you know. All the babbling and people falling down and "convulsing" does not convince me. I'd rather read the scripture in my own language and oray in my own language. I know God loves me no-matter that I can only speak my Mother-tongue,
ok im gonna be completely honest. you baffoons are ridiculous. God is God, hes everywhere all around us and in us. Believe in him or don't believe in him, that is your deal. I don't know much about speaking in tongues and such, but I think God will give someone that when he feels the person should have the ability to, and to minister with it, ect ect. With the whole falling back and shaking, sputtering and convusling tho.. somehow that doesnt seem right..
Most Christian ministers and teachers today are frauds and fakes, they twist and pervert the gospel. This is why YOU SHOULD ALWAYS STUDY THE GOSPEL YOURSELVES.. that way you can't be deceived like MILLIONS have throughout history by false teachers
Real Christians are one spirit, one mind and one faith. They are not divided into different denominations. Real Christians love KNOWLEDGE, CHARITY, SOUND MIND and SPIRITUAL GROWTH... the gospel does not make people retards and mentally backwards like the people in this video. Its not the people, the people are just the victims of evil men, fake teachers who are USING the name Christianity, but not preeching the correct faith. This is why people should always study the bible THEMSELVES
As for conduct in the congregation... women are not supposed to speak, they are supposed to cover there heads when they pray. All men in the congregation are supposed to minister to each other, giving everyone the chance to speak. If someone speaks in tongues (a foreign language) somebody must ALWAYS interpret so everybody understands what is said. Christians are supposed to greet each other with a holy kiss, break bread everyday and share everything they have in common.
THE CREATOR GIVE BIG MISSIONS TO BIG SOULS, AS BIG IS YOUR MISSION/PAIN; IS THE YOUR ESENSE. A WOMAN IS THE STRONGEST FUNDAMENT OF THE ROPE, THE SPIRITUALITY IN A HUMAN FEMALE CONSTITUTE THE KNOT!!!
Christians put no faith in the flesh, they live according to the spirit, becos there lives are hid with Christ. They look towards the heavenly kingdom to see there master Jesus Christ, only through FAITH can you see and enter the kingdom of God. The Isreal of God is from above, its not carnal earthly isreal. The Laws of God are written in the hearts and minds of the believers.
Christians are new creatures in Christ, when you are baptized into Christ you become a new man, you put off the old man and put on Christ. You even change your name!!. When you become a Christian you belong to that spiritual temple that is been built up in the likeness of Christ, each believer is a living stone and a royal preist in that temple. Christians don't go to man made buildings for worship, they worship God in spirit and in truth.
First and most important on the topic of "Tongues" is what does the name mean? Tongues in the Greek is in your Strongs concordance, (if you dont own one It is a must have) it is # 1100 in the dictionary, its meaning is Language; the word is 'Glossa' in the Greek, we get our word glossary from this word in our english 'tongue'. You will find then the TRUTH of what happened "when the day of Pentecost was fully come" in Acts 2. You see it described in V's 1-13, and as important the message follows
In Acts 2 (which is central to understanding the "Cloven Tongues") you find these words; V3 " And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat
upon each of them". The word 'cloven' is #1266; to partition thoroughly. V4 "And they were filled with the Holy Ghost (Spirit is a better fit since it's Pneuma) and began
to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance." Remember 'tongues' means languages. The apostles here were Galileans, the hearers are not.
Acts 2:5 "And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven." All nations are covered here. V6 "Now when this was noised abrod, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own language". NOW THE TRUTH HIGHLIGHTED; they
all heard them speak in thier own language! Now the word language here is #1258 dialektos = dialect. Their own very distinct variation of their language.
Acts 2:7 "And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, 'behold are not all these which speak Galilaeans?" V8 "And now hear we every man in our
own tongue (dialect) wherein we were born?" V9 "Parthians, and Medes, Elamites, and dwellers in Mesopotania, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontas, and Aisia
" V10" Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libia about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes" (an arriver from anothe region).
Acts 2:11 "Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God" You see here all the known world is covered, which means all the
languages (or tongues) are present and accounted for. They all understand with no need for an interpiter, no Bable, no confusion. And the apostles were saying a
message which finishes the chapter. Now Paul does state in some of his epistles about speaking in 'tongues', ie languages, and the need for an interpeter if you....
If you go to another people with another dialect then your native or fluent language. If read with that in mind it would clear up the fact that speaking in Random Sylables
is in no way shape or form the evidince of the Holy Spirit, yet its another spirit being promoted, straight from Jerimiah 23:30-32. It is the practicing of what Paul said to
"Shun vain and profane babbleings for they will increase unto more ungodlyness". You see Random Sylables (properly defined) is a sacred cow.
10 years ago I visit for few times a church wich was the same type like in America, protestant church?I am a orthodox Christian.I don't like when people screem halleluiah and look like on drugs..and someone is preaching to the others like Messiah .With few words I pray once and I start talking .It sound just like Aramaic ! I write down some simbols, have no idea what is about.I am scared,so i don't let this happening, even If I feel wormth and calm when I talk, but I prefer to doubt this and I still
The terms used to explain modern "tongues" is either a "fertile imagination" or unconscious "auto suggestion", since, if it were real and miraculous it could be verified independently, rather than by subjective "experiences" of a single individual.
Modern "tongues" is the equivolent of me randomly striking keys on a piano and claiming that it is "music", only for the angels or God Himself to understand.
It has become a self-fulfilling experience with no benefit to the church as a whole.
Speaking in tongues and the Holy Ghost is a real experience. Some of the videos you put on here are not people receiving the spirit. I don't know where you found it..probably here on youtube. This is Garbage. And What Paul says to the Corinthians Church is to not use their gifts of tongue too much as to frighten people that did not understand. In 1 Cor 14:18 paul says "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you." Obviously you are one of the frightened ones.
@Infidelrf speaking in tongues cannot be interpreted b ya"linguist". unless that person is also a person who is prophesying and interpreting the one speaking in tongues. Obviously in your opinion they are utterances and its OK if that's your opinion. We can argue about this till we are called up to heaven or until the last days. But in my opinion it specifically says these things in the bible. Before I prayed and spoke in tongues I thought it was crazy too! Now when I pray I am renewed.
The bible did not say that three thousand were added it said about, an estimated amount. And from my personal experience I speak in tongues even at my home when talking to God. I am not teaching or preaching to anyone. I have the Holy Ghost inside of me and no one can ever diter my beliefs in speaking it tongues I have fought many spiriyual battles throught the Holy Ghost. So I'm speaking from personal experiences.
@Donnettethomas How can you ever be sure this is comming from God ?Why I have this, why you have this ? I am not better than anyone , I have sins, why me ? I have the same "gift" like you,but thinking over the situation and the place that this happend I am not sure if it's good ! I want to know, untill then I will ask questions !
@TruthandSpirit26 I agree with every comment you made, but I'm asking not about what you believe or for you to quote/interpret scripture... I'm asking how you live and practice and how it proves that you are a christian. Don't give me formulas, give me a brief testimony/how you are living according to the Word.
and the Pentecostals for the things you were offended by--release them and bless them in accordance to Jesus' teachings to forgive and ask God to reveal the truth about it. We rarely see things accurately otherwise.
1 Cor 14 is about tongues as it specifically relates to church gatherings. Paul does say 'that tongues are a SIGN, not for believers but (a SIGN) for unbelievers' but your conclusion doesn't follow that "speaking in tongues is MEANT for the unbelievers, not the believers."
I hear that you have been offended by things you have seen in the Charasmatic and Pentecostal churches--or perhaps stuff you saw on tv. I want to encourage you about something. Speak forgiveness to the Charasmatics
than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue." So, knowing as Paul states in verse 2 that those who speaks in tongues are speaking to God and that no one understands them, and yet Paul boldly declares that he speaks in tongues 'more than all of you' but that he prefers not to speak in tongues in church, where do you suppose Paul does all this speaking in tongues he claims to do?
Cubed, no offense but if you think I'm proving your point I don't think you're listening. There is no scriptural support that tongues is speaking in a known language. Re-read my posts. Further, simply consider verse 2 as it relates to verses 18-19. In verse 2 Paul writes, "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit." Then in verses 18-19 he writes, "I thank God that I speak in tongues more
Jesus so KNEW The Father's voice, that He recognized what was revealed to Peter by the Father and what was coming from elsewhere. Believers must be so familiarized with Jesus' voice that it's not such a difficult task discerning the origins of what people claim God revealed to them. We get to know Jesus' voice by spending time with Him, reading the Bible and hearing the voice of God teaching us as we read the Word.
Elsewhere, in John 10, Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me."
I understand the fear of some, regarding revelation and the gift of prophecy. Look at Peter in Matthew 16, ( I understand this is before he received the Holy Spirit). The moment he declared Jesus the Messiah, Christ pointed out that this had been "revealed" to him by His Father in Heaven, then a couple verses later when Peter speaks again, Jesus rebuked Peter's words as coming from Satan.
This believer isn't simply quoting scripture, but rather speaking what he has heard from God. This would contradict all your earlier comments about what you consider to be "proper" revelation. However, a believer operating in the spiritual gift of prophecy in such a way is in perfect harmony with Hebrews 1, as Jesus and the Holy Spirit are still speaking. In Hebrews 4 it is written, "TODAY, if you hear my voice..."
@081866 Your talking about the writers of the NT who were given divine inspiration of what to write down in the Bible for us to read. I don't see anyone getting inspiration today to add to the Bible do we? Before the conical Bible, every revelation was validated, tested, and proven with miracles and signs. Their was always a test to prove if what was being spoken was of God or the devil. Jesus proved it, the apostles proved it, but we prove the revelation by applying the scriptures to it.
@081866 If you look at a good chunk of the Charasmastic movement, their is none of this validation or testing of revelation, just blind acceptness. And we know that all these gifts are counterfeited by the devil, so how do we distinguish between them? the lady in the Bible who was demon possessed fortold the future. God is not the author of confusion but of a sound mind and all revelation needs to be tested and validated with scriptures which is not being done by the charasmatic moveemnt today
Regarding the gift of prophecy, in Acts 21:10-11 it is written, "After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jews of Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’” This is an example of a New Testament believer receiving revelation from the Holy Spirit and speaking prophetically.
@081866 Yes,it was a valid prophecy, but still the prophet had a realtionship with God guided by knowldege of God much like we gain knowledge through readin the Bible. Whatever revelation is given, believers need to be able to distinguish between what's from God and what's not through the Word and an intimate relationship with God and we need to test the spirits. It's dangerous in these pentocoastal church where prophets give revelation that don't come to pass or are not supported by the Bible
Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit."
If tongues was "known languages" as you argue, how could Paul accurately declare of those who speak in tongues in 1 Cor 14:2 that, "no one understands him?"
If I spoke Chinese, you may not understand me, but I could not accurately say that "no one understands", because Chinese is a known language.
@081866 Put v2 in context with all of chpt 14, all throughout that chapter and in v 28 Paul states if their is no interpreter let the man who is speaking in unknown tongue without an interpreter keep silent and he even gives the Godly reason for tongues which wasn't for men to speak to God in a secret language because according to non-believers, they are mad. Furthurmore, speaking in tongues is meant for the unbelievers, not the believers, it's a sign to them of the power of God and the gospel
@cubed07 Read the whole chapters 12-14 in context... Why does Paul say let there be an interpreter? Because in the church of Corinth, people were boasting of their spiritual gifts to exalt themselves. They were going in front of the "pulpit" speaking in tongues to impress the congregation. That's why in the mid verses in chapter 13, Paul exhorts the corinth of how they were using tongues, and he even relates it with his gift of tongues.
'speaking in different kinds of tongues', and secondly 'the interpretation of tongues.' The God fearing Jews there were granted by the Spirit of God the ability to interpret the tongues that were being spoken. There were clearly other people there that were not part of the miracle as verse 13 says that 'Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.'
Again, Paul clearly states in 1 Cor 14:2, "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God...
@081866 Yes, they were granted to interpret language spoken that they've never heard, you keep proving my point, tongues was never meant to be a special communication between God and man, men may speak to God in an unknown language but that is not how God designed the gift, the purpose of tongue was to speak in other languages to preach the gospel to those who speak different languages so that the gospel wouldn't be hinder
@cubed07 If tongues was only given to preach the gospel, and not a "special communication between God and man" then lets look at the scripture in context.... AV 1C 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
Think about that verse.... "and let him speak to himself, and to God."
Paul made a mistake... He should have just said "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church." and just end there.
@blkedwashedazn Yes, and the other part meaning keep in slient, why would Paul tell a so called godly man to be quiet when speaking in tongues, you missed Paul's sarcasm here which is one of many he uses in 1 Cor to show how useless and foolish someone is who speaks in tongues secretly with God to where no one can understand or gain a spiritual benefit.
@cubed07 Again, do I need to repeat myself? "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."
Wait, would you look at that verse? It doesn't say he who speaks in a tongue edifies the unbelievers... Yes it edifies the unbelievers when there is an interpreter to translate the tongues... Look at verses 3 & 4. It is comparing the personal edification of tongues vs corporal edification of prophesy. But according to you, tongues is not for self-edific.
Cubed-'There are no contradictions in my statement. You need to read over my comments again. Your first response is simply based on your assumption that because the hearers HEARD in their own language that their own language was being SPOKEN. This is an incorrect assumption. Regarding, the speaking, it simply says "they SPOKE in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." The passage is an example of the Holy Spirit manifesting in two different ways that Paul later describes in 1 Cor 12 as
the other spiritual gifts they have been taught do not exist anymore. Many have been taught as I was, by my local church, claiming a corner on truth, that most of the spiritual gifts had "died out." Many have been taught that those today who do the same works Jesus did of praying for healing or deliverance are doing the works of the devil when that is the same lame accusation those who were living under the Old Covenant leveled against our Saviour..and the real work of the devil is keeping
@081866 It's not that spiritual gifts don't exist anymore, their only purpose is to promote the gospel, I believe anyone today promoting the gospel can do the exact same as Jesus and the Apostles afterwards did and have the gifts of the Holy Spirit at their disposal for promoting the gospel
encouraging prophecy in 1 Cor 14. This is a matter of church order and nothing more. Paul was not discouraging believers from speaking in tongues as some suppose. He was discouraging speaking in tongues in their gatherings without interpretation, because as he said in verse 2, "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit."
I understand that some find tongues offensive along with half of the
@081866 It's not that I find tongues offensive, just easily misused and without discernment can be mistaken and counterfeited very easily with demonic tongues. As long tongue speaking is used to breach the language gap to promote the gospel, I'm all for it cause that is the only purpose for it and the other gifts. Also the word prophecy in the greek doesn't mean a secret communication from God to fortell the future but instead to speak the known truths of God, now the question is......
@081866 ....where and how does the revelation come from? Hebrews succincts it good by saying, "In the past he spoke through the prophets but in the end times he speaks through his Son whom he has appointed heir of all things...", divine revelation comes from God but it always will pass through his Word or Son before getting to us, anything God reveals can be found in scripture and confirmed. Thus a prophet speaks the known things of God made revealed through the Bible, this is proper prophecy
Part of the miracle of Pentecost then was in the HEARING. Not only does Acts 2 not say that they SPOKE in known languages, but elsewhere it is clear that tongues were not understandable without divine assistance. Paul actually lists both the speaking of tongues and the interpretation of tongues as spiritual gifts in 1 Cor. 12:10, and as a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. It was because tongues were an unknown language that Paul discouraged tongues in the Corinthians' gatherings--instead
The point that tongues was speaking a known language is unsupported by scripture.
Acts 2 doesn't say that those who received the Holy Spirit SPOKE in known languages. In verse 4 it says that they spoke in "other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Further down the passsage it says that, "a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one HEARD them speaking in his own language," and later querried in verse 8, "how is it that each of us HEARS them in his own native language?"
@081866 verse 8 alone contradicts your first statement, the apostles were speaking in many native languages or KNOWN languages. the two were the same. Acts 2 proves speaking in tongues was speaking in different human languages not in a secret coded message to God. Secondly you quoted verse 4 out of context, the different tongues was different languages because in verse 6 shows the reaction of the diversified crowd astonished that gentiles were speaking in their native tongues v6-8
the bible clearly displays in acts that the men who were baptized in the Spirit spoke in languages of the world not known to them. men from northern areas would speak in an egyptians language and so forth. not to attack you but just to help you deter from herecy . its in Acts 2:4
@TruthandSpirit26 So you are practicing true Christianity? Tell me how you do this so I can be a "true" christian. Since according to you, I'm not washed by the blood, born again, filled with the holy spirit. I want to know this "christianity" that you live and practice.
@blkedwashedazn There is only way according to scripture to be filled with the Holy Ghost and comforter John 14:15-17 is so clear. Jesus must pray for it.
@1struthalways Umm... Jesus did pray for it... Acts 1&2 is so clearer... Jesus tells the disciples to wait for the Spirit. Acts 2 comes and bam.... The Holy spirit came.... "But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you."
Last time I check, Jesus went and the Holy Spirit came.
Ac 8:17 Then laid they [their] hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
speaking in tongues is a gift, sume recieve it, and some recieve healing, or translating tongues, or some other gift from God, if one dont speak in tongues but they recievd the holy spirit tharts all that counts
@FaithonHigh There is not in is is with read the verse in the KJV which has been proven by the dead sea scrolls to be accurate. And it is a gift. Just one of the many
@TruthandSpirit26 "These people are not Christians no matter what anybody says." - Probably some of these brothers and sisters are Christians no matter what YOU say. Please don't disqualify anyone from the body of Christ, it's actually pretty darn dangerous thing to say. ~Much Love and Much Blessings ~
for the people who say that the spirit is giving utterence and its a heavenly language that coming from this babbling baby talk is non-sense. there is no evidence in the bible for that claim however there is a plethora of evidence to disprove said claim. Dont lie to people and pretend you have the power of the spirt when you clearly do not
@bigwill12555 To agree- missconception comes from-'1Co 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love...' This isn't saying he speaks with tongues of angels. It's like saying "if walk a hundred miles or dive to the depths of the ocean and do not have love..." Doesn't mean I can dive to the depths.
'1Cor 14 ...he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not to men, but to God...' it's the speakers spirit and God knows his prayers though not intelligable speach.
The very scriptures that are being used to argue for tongues actual state clearly that it is to be something personal and other gifts especially the gift of prophecy are to be desired over it. Why is speaking in tongues pushed by pentecostals etc. even saying it is required as proof of spiritual babtism. This is not scriptural. Nor do I believe most 'tongues' today are from God but from a process in the mind that brings utterances without going through the speech processing of the brain.
@jrmaximus Why is tongues not for today...? I guess God went "Oops, no more tongues in the 21st century, sorry Church for holding back all the spiritual gifts."
@blkedwashedazn I didn't say it wasn't for today. You are reading into what I wrote (which is a bad sign)
Saying speaking in tongues is the initial sign of receiving the Holy Spirit is not scriptural. This is a damaging doctrine that has great potential to quench the gifts someone has received if they and others are led to believe they do not have the infilling if they don't speak in tongues.
There are also unscriptural false 'gifts of tongues' rampant in the church today.
Sneaky devil scared of the true power of God! Using his people on both sides of the camp to bring disunity, confusion, and controversy.

Also the justification of the gift of tongues is in evidence by there being a gift of interpretation look it up here on yourtube and learn about it
jossan92513 6 days ago

It is a wonderful gift.
ilovpolitics1 1 week ago
@ilovpolitics1 The tongues of angels are earthly spoken languages. Can you name an instance in the Bible where angels spoke to men but couldn't be understood? It's not gibberish no one can decipher.
filoIII 6 days ago
@filoIII Angels spoke in earthly languages so earthlings could understand it. So this means now that our languages on earth are the same languages spoken in heaven? I think not.
denoinwa 6 days ago
@denoinwa That's definately man's logic coming from you. Again, where IN THE BIBLE does it say angels speak some language we can't understand? In every case, as far as I know, the angels spoke earthly languages. You must fit your theology to the Book and not make the Bible fit your theology.
filoIII 6 days ago
@filoIII I would put it more in line with common sense. The fact that Paul distinguished languages of angels from languages of man should tell you something. It is only your human (bias) logic that ignores it.
denoinwa 6 days ago
@denoinwa You give me your logic and I give you Bible. If you don't know "tongues" are described as earthly languages, then the rest of your theology is suspect. Acts 2 explains it all. Come out of the cult of charismania.
filoIII 6 days ago
@filoIII The Bible CLEARLY says there are tongues of angels. Your biased logic and human understanding wont accept it. That kind of blindness for agenda's sake makes YOUR theology suspect. Because God miraculously spoke to nations in languages at pentecost, you are and your ilk want to forumulize tongues to suit your agenda. Your formula doesnt work with I Cor 14, unless you want to discard or butcher it like you did tongues of angels. Come out of the cult of your morality club christianity.

You underestimate the human capacity to deny the Holy Spirit on behalf of tradition, which is NOT the primary guiding force in the church.
denoinwa 3 days ago
@denoinwa Read Augustine and the Holy Bible in context!

You underestimate the Holy Spirit, that there is One Truth!
Adonomos 2 days ago
There are other examples other than what I have quoted here. While it may be true that there were periods of history where the gifts of the Spirit were denied, the potential of which is clearly seen from the tradition you belong too, it is not grounds to continue in ignorance.
denoinwa 3 days ago
@denoinwa 2/2
The fact is it was the Church Fathers that compiled the Holy Bible for the Church. Not to create new ones with new teachings to match.
Ignorance? How do you claim the gifts were denied?
The fact is one may claim gifts but if they don't hold to the continuous Apostolic Truth,
then how can the new one be of the Holy Spirit with a different teaching?
Adonomos 3 days ago
@Adonomos The head of the church is Christ, and ANYONE joined with Christ is of the same fold. To think anything else is heresy, a perspective fueling dissension, and an idolatrous dependency on FORMS AND TRADITION. There is no "new teaching" here. The scripture is clear. Who are you to demand proof that a person is of Christ? This notion is delusional absurdity.

@denoinwa Heaved up heresy? It's confessed by the heretic!
There is no new teachings? What do you call 3500 heaved up denominations out there with all there different teachings?

Many groups like yourselves connect yourself to the Holy Bible by your own preferences but the Facts started 2000yrs ago and your preference 20yrs ago.

When I was confused about the Holy Spirit, these are the scriptures God showed me.
joshi8 1 week ago
After Peter spoke to the people who were amazed, they were cut to the heart and asked what they should do. Peter answered that they should "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise (the Holy Spirit) is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the lord our God will call. (Acts 2, verses 38-39).
joshi8 1 week ago
Nope you're missing the whole point here in what the scriptures was truly saying.. When Peter stood to address the people each and every nationality heard Peter in their own Language he didn't speak in different languages, He he only spoke one tongue, but they are heard him in their own tongue.. There was no need for Cornelius to receive another natural language because he wasn't addressing any one. The Lord gave him a heavenly language.
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@bubba007sss That is to say that all the unbelievers in the crowd who heard would have to have been given the gift of interpretation of tongues. Are you saying that they received this gift of the Holy Spirit yet in the church we need to have specific interpreters blessed with this gift and the Spirit won't allow each of us to understand as did the unbelievers who were at Pentecost?
jrmaximus 1 week ago
@jrmaximus What is the difference when Jesus prayed for a withered foot that grow to it's original form in front of all those nonbelievers, or for the Lord to let the nonbelievers hear what Peter was saying in their own tongue. God is God and he can do any thing, but to place limitations on God's ability is denying the very existence of God's power all together..
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@bubba007sss Men are men and they will at times let flesh enter into there midst, but that doesn't change God one bit, He's still the same God as he was yesterday. Why place God inside a box and then sit back and dictate how it all should be done. God works with our unbelief, and their isn't a one of us that can say that we haven't believed at times, we all lose Faith.
Yes Apostle Paul corrected but he didn't call then children of the Devil either.
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@bubba007sss I don't limit God at all but regarding sound doctrine we either read the bible in it's proper context considering the whole book and not assume our own ideas into it or we go by only what is said. Though this could sound like that is what happened it brings into question why then do we need interpretors for the act of speaking in tongues when it has, if that is the case, been demonstrated to not need it.
What is the purpose of tongues in light of your view?
jrmaximus 1 week ago
@jrmaximus Are you telling me that each one of the men with Peter spoke in all those different languages and nothing suprernatal ever happened all because it doesn't line up with your reasoning? What did Apostle Paul say about tongues? If you deny tongues then you also have to deny prophesying.. Because both would cease to exist after the death of the Apostles. Don't you know what Apostle Paul said about interpreting tongues in the church? When Peter spoke all understood what he said.
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@jrmaximus Think about this" for some reason you think that these people had to have the Holy Ghost to understand what the Apostle Peter and others were saying to be able to accept it was something supernatural that had taken place. Remember the Bible said the people were in aw all because they heard them speak in the native tongues. I wouldn't be in aw if I heard each man speak in a different language, but I would be in aw if I heard one man speak, and we all understood.
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@bubba007sss I completely understand. A matter of fact it is a view that I seriously consider. I question this view myself in the same way I am questioning you with the intent to determine what is most probable as the correct view.
The other half of this is the purpose of tongues, the fact scripture says it's a gift not all receive though Pentecostals etc. say it's required proof of Holy Spirit baptism, and false tongues and teachings about it rampant in the church.
jrmaximus 1 week ago
@jrmaximus My view makes more sense then the view in this video, and stands to reasoning why the people were so in aw of the Apostles on the day of Pentecost.. Tell me would you be in aw if you heard each man speak in a different language? I doubt it, and neither would they.. Nope each one heard Peter speak in their own native tongue. Apostle Paul gave clear instructions on how to conduct a service when tongues are being used.
bubba007sss 1 week ago
@bubba007sss Like I mentioned previously it is a point that I also picked up on. I do try to test any view I come up with against other thoughts on something. You are actually only the second person I have found who has come to this conclusion besides myself. I apologise for my need to make you defend it but it helps to strengthen or (if you could not defend it) weaken it as a viable perspective in my own mind.
jrmaximus 1 week ago
@bubba007sss Another question is - those who heard asked 'are not all these that speak Galilaeans?' so they knew them as men who could not speak their native languages. It was not just Peter speaking at that time-it was the group of them.
When Peter spoke to the crowd it doesn't specifically say he spoke in new tongues at that time but could easily have spoke the common language of the people in the region as opposed to as it says the 'language wherein we were born?'
jrmaximus 1 week ago
@jrmaximus You have a point there, but who was Peter addressing? Every Nationality there. How would they of known what Peter was saying to them with out an interpreter? He didn't need one because the Holy Ghost was present. God won't Lie to you, and he loves our Honesty

What do you have to say about "tounges of angels?" You might want to consider sincerely inquiring of the Lord & removing your video. Tounges allow our spirits to pray & access God in our heavenly language -not with our own understanding- very powerful. No wonder there is so much deception about it.
Shadowfaux2012 4 weeks ago
@Shadowfaux2012 If I may.............."tongues of angels" as Paul was saying, was written in a purely HYPOTHETICAL context. "If I speak....", he said and he, Paul, was NOT indicating that he did, or there even exists an "angelic" tongue. Read the whole passage in context and this is very clear.
We have access to God through Jesus Christ, and no other way is Biblically valid.
These unknown "utterances" should be kept outside of the church.
Infidelrf 3 weeks ago in playlist responded videos
@Shadowfaux2012 Where is "power" in communicating through sounds you don't even understand yourself? There is no Biblical basis for this.
God already knows what you're thinking before you even pray!
If I randomly strike keys on a piano and call it "praise" and "worship", who really cares right?
Unless I bring it into the church and try and convince everyone that my random noise is a miraculous gift from God which is evidence of the Holy Spirit. At that point it becomes sinful and worldly.

70CarStall 1 month ago
In Acts 2 (which is central to understanding the "Cloven Tongues") you find these words; V3 " And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat
upon each of them". The word 'cloven' is #1266; to partition thoroughly. V4 "And they were filled with the Holy Ghost (Spirit is a better fit since it's Pneuma) and began
to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance." Remember 'tongues' means languages. The apostles here were Galileans, the hearers are not.
70CarStall 1 month ago
Acts 2:5 "And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven." All nations are covered here. V6 "Now when this was noised abrod, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own language". NOW THE TRUTH HIGHLIGHTED; they
all heard them speak in thier own language! Now the word language here is #1258 dialektos = dialect. Their own very distinct variation of their language.
70CarStall 1 month ago

The "sign" of tongues is a miraculous gift which, biblically speaking was a powerful testimony to unbelievers who were present(Acts 2:8).
Since modern "utterances" or "tongues", as defined today, cannot be objectively discerned or tested, they lack the standards necessary for reproof.
Biblical miracles, which speaking in unknown "tongues" were, always were received as supernatural manifestations of God.
The supernatural CANNOT be faked as easily as modern day "tongues" can!

In 1 Cor 14:18 paul says "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you." Obviously you are one of the frightened ones.
awise429 1 month ago
@awise4291Cor14:22 "So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers..."
Unbelievers are not convinced by "tongues" as practiced today.
These so-called "angelic" tongues and "unknown" languages are simply "utterances" created in the fertile imaginings of the people themselves.
Languages can be discerned and interpreted.
I challenge anyone to record someone speaking in another "tongue" and then bring it to a linguist for interpretation.
I didn't think so.
Infidelrf 1 month ago in playlist responded videos
@Infidelrf speaking in tongues cannot be interpreted b ya"linguist". unless that person is also a person who is prophesying and interpreting the one speaking in tongues. Obviously in your opinion they are utterances and its OK if that's your opinion. We can argue about this till we are called up to heaven or until the last days. But in my opinion it specifically says these things in the bible. Before I prayed and spoke in tongues I thought it was crazy too! Now when I pray I am renewed.

Good Night and God Bless

081866 1 month ago
@081866 Your talking about the writers of the NT who were given divine inspiration of what to write down in the Bible for us to read. I don't see anyone getting inspiration today to add to the Bible do we? Before the conical Bible, every revelation was validated, tested, and proven with miracles and signs. Their was always a test to prove if what was being spoken was of God or the devil. Jesus proved it, the apostles proved it, but we prove the revelation by applying the scriptures to it.
cubed07 1 month ago

081866 1 month ago
@081866 Yes,it was a valid prophecy, but still the prophet had a realtionship with God guided by knowldege of God much like we gain knowledge through readin the Bible. Whatever revelation is given, believers need to be able to distinguish between what's from God and what's not through the Word and an intimate relationship with God and we need to test the spirits. It's dangerous in these pentocoastal church where prophets give revelation that don't come to pass or are not supported by the Bible

Furthurmore, speaking in tongues is meant for the unbelievers, not the believers, it's a sign to them of the power of God and the gospel
cubed07 1 month ago

081866 1 month ago
@081866 Yes, they were granted to interpret language spoken that they've never heard, you keep proving my point, tongues was never meant to be a special communication between God and man, men may speak to God in an unknown language but that is not how God designed the gift, the purpose of tongue was to speak in other languages to preach the gospel to those who speak different languages so that the gospel wouldn't be hinder
cubed07 1 month ago
@cubed07 If tongues was only given to preach the gospel, and not a "special communication between God and man" then lets look at the scripture in context.... AV 1C 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
Think about that verse.... "and let him speak to himself, and to God."
Paul made a mistake... He should have just said "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church." and just end there.
blkedwashedazn 1 month ago
@blkedwashedazn Yes, and the other part meaning keep in slient, why would Paul tell a so called godly man to be quiet when speaking in tongues, you missed Paul's sarcasm here which is one of many he uses in 1 Cor to show how useless and foolish someone is who speaks in tongues secretly with God to where no one can understand or gain a spiritual benefit.
cubed07 1 month ago
@cubed07 Again, do I need to repeat myself? "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."
Wait, would you look at that verse? It doesn't say he who speaks in a tongue edifies the unbelievers... Yes it edifies the unbelievers when there is an interpreter to translate the tongues... Look at verses 3 & 4. It is comparing the personal edification of tongues vs corporal edification of prophesy. But according to you, tongues is not for self-edific.

encouraging prophecy in 1 Cor 14. This is a matter of church order and nothing more. Paul was not discouraging believers from speaking in tongues as some suppose. 081866 1 month ago
Also the word prophecy in the greek doesn't mean a secret communication from God to fortell the future but instead to speak the known truths of God, now the question is......
cubed07 1 month ago
@081866 ....where and how does the revelation come from? Hebrews succincts it good by saying, "In the past he spoke through the prophets but in the end times he speaks through his Son whom he has appointed heir of all things...", divine revelation comes from God but it always will pass through his Word or Son before getting to us, anything God reveals can be found in scripture and confirmed. Thus a prophet speaks the known things of God made revealed through the Bible, this is proper prophecy
cubed07 1 month ago
Part of the miracle of Pentecost then was in the HEARING. Not only does Acts 2 not say that they SPOKE in known languages, but elsewhere it is clear that tongues were not understandable without divine assistance. Paul actually lists both the speaking of tongues and the interpretation of tongues as spiritual gifts in 1 Cor. 12:10, and as a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. It was because tongues were an unknown language that Paul discouraged tongues in the Corinthians' gatherings--instead
081866 1 month ago
The point that tongues was speaking a known language is unsupported by scripture.
Acts 2 doesn't say that those who received the Holy Spirit SPOKE in known languages. In verse 4 it says that they spoke in "other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Further down the passsage it says that, "a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one HEARD them speaking in his own language," and later querried in verse 8, "how is it that each of us HEARS them in his own native language?"
081866 1 month ago
@081866 verse 8 alone contradicts your first statement, the apostles were speaking in many native languages or KNOWN languages. the two were the same. Acts 2 proves speaking in tongues was speaking in different human languages not in a secret coded message to God. Secondly you quoted verse 4 out of context, the different tongues was different languages because in verse 6 shows the reaction of the diversified crowd astonished that gentiles were speaking in their native tongues v6-8

Matt 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many .

I guess God went "Oops, no more tongues in the 21st century, sorry Church for holding back all the spiritual gifts."
blkedwashedazn 1 month ago
@blkedwashedazn I didn't say it wasn't for today. You are reading into what I wrote (which is a bad sign)
Saying speaking in tongues is the initial sign of receiving the Holy Spirit is not scriptural. This is a damaging doctrine that has great potential to quench the gifts someone has received if they and others are led to believe they do not have the infilling if they don't speak in tongues.
There are also unscriptural false 'gifts of tongues' rampant in the church today.
