  • The Captain's Daughter was the cat o' nine tails. Putting him in the bed with the captain's daughter meant whip him, then pour salt water on the wounds, then put him to bed in paaain.

Apparently it's a nickname for the Cat o'nine tails, also known a really nasty looking whip.

    Ow...That would hurt...

  • great song! especially first thing in the morning. who is singing this?

  • Great Song but what is he singing at 1:09???

  • @FilmForger send him with a scrubber with a hosepipe on him.

  • Csúcs a vidi

  • Not bad, but for the purist, it's "Put 'im in the cabin with the Cap'ns Daughter." It's never called a bed on board ship, it's always, ALWAYS called a bunk. You want the song done right have a sailor sing it. Still like it.

  • Seriously check out Venganza.org <largest gathering or Pirates since the 1700

  • shave his belly with a rusty razor... ouchie!

  • Sorry but i dont remember any where in history talking about the Irish navy lol They all serve in the British navy

  • Sorry but i dont remember any where in history talking about the Irish navy lol

  • Geil. haben wir damals in der schule im musikunterricht im canon gesungen. kenn den text immer noch in-und-auswendig. 5*****

  • This song is an old English Navy ditty sung to keep the spirits of the sailors high and to encourage rowers when the sails were torn.

  • there's a version of this song where the lyrics are sung opera-like.

Does anyone know where i can find it?

  • The "captain's daughter" was a euphemism for the Cat o' Nine Tails lash. It was called the captain's daughter because it was kept locked in his cabin and could only be used by his authorization. To be put in bed with the captain's daughter meant to be lashed across a cannon (put in bed) and lashed with the Cat o' Nine Tails (the captain's daughter). It was common practice in most Navies of the time. But this song is English in origin.

  • @Rikki0 Wow, that really sucks. No wonder sailors deserted the navy and took up piracy.

  • @TheWizardTrembyle Heh, well pirates used keel hauling. A man was tied to a rope which was run under the ship from side to side. He was then tied to one end, thrown overboard, and the crew hauled him under the ship and up the other side. The bottoms of ships that had been at sea for awhile were covered by barnacles. Think of a razor hundreds of razor blades shaped into cones. Now imagine being dragged across about thirty feet of those underwater. Usually deadly ( if the guy was lucky).

  • @Rikki0 The freedom of piracy is attractive despite the fear of being caught and hung. I suppose a buccaneer's life quite free provided you didn't, blow your loot, get too greedy, or become famous.

  • @TheWizardTrembyle Surprise you haven't killed yourself. Still trolling as MKShaggy.

  • @towlie86 ummm, wtf crack you on?!

This is an old Irish sailing song...

No other country sang about putting a man in their captains daughter...

  • This song is in Spongebob!

  • @IslandBros15 XDDDD thats right^^

  • I agree.. i thought this was was a sailors song, not irish ?

  • This is awsome! I suppose i was Irishman in my previous life!

  • The Irish Rovers, Drunken Sailor - you should really credit the music. How can I download the song?

  • that skull is been killed bij that smoke

    doyle mate

  • Actually an british navy song. fuckin limeys LOL! And they were bein nice!

  • And that's the Navy doesn't let booze on board their ships lol.

  • put em in the bed with the captain's daughter!

lol this sailor gunna get killed by that captain!

  • @worriorforgod aye its the plank for em hehehehe

  • @worriorforgod The "Captain's Daughter" was a whip that only the captain was allowed to use.

  • @worriorforgod going to bed with the capitans dauter means you et sraped across a canon and whiped...

  • @worriorforgod CAPTAINS DAUGHTER IS A NAME FOR THE CAT O NAILS A WHIP ITS AN EUPHEMISM FOR WHIPPING HIM YEA YOU ALL FUCKED TO DESCRIBED IT ...THATS WHAT HAPPEN WHEN YOUR NOT IRISH THE BAND WHO MADE THAT IS AN IRISH BAND CALLED THE IRISH ROVERS

  • wat he said...

  • wat he said...

    is right

  • @gabrielcool427 Actually, this song has been around since the 1800s, and the original lyrics can be found at w\/\/w (dot) privateerdragons (dot) c0m / caseys_shiphold1b (dot) html .... But, yes, the "Captain's Daughter" is another name for the whip.

  • @gabrielcool427 It was never an Irish song though.....so many "Irish" songs are not Irish

  • @worriorforgod !5 years at sea and tis is me favorite

  • in the original version the line was: "Give him a taste of the Captain's Daughter"(=cat-o'-nine tails), which sounds more like a punishment:)

  • @worriorforgod: in the original version the line was: "Give him a taste of the Captain's Daughter"(=cat-o'-nine tails), which sounds more like a punishment:)

  • @worriorforgod Probably not... She's a pirate wench, after all. :)

  • @worriorforgod that be the point, mate

    also, yah misspelled 'warrior'

  • @worriorforgod do you know what the captains daughter is? 1 thing I can tell. Its not the human daughter of the captain

  • @worriorforgod In the era in which this song was written, a "Captain's daughter", was slang for a cat O' nine tails. Thus "put him in the bed with the Captain's daughter", would have been a double entendre for taking him to the whipping post.

  • 8 people actually don't know actually what to do with a drunken sailor
