This isn't pre-rotation...... pre-rotation is also known as a toe-axel..... and on edge jumps you are going to naturally have a little turn on the take off because they involve more torque! Thanks for the video :)

No skater is perfect, because that does not exist. Yu Na skates as a princess and has good quality of movement, but Mao skating as a ballet dancer and also has better technique, makes more difficult jumps (triple axel) and best executed and has much better flexibility in placement and the spirals and The Billman.

Of the men, the king of the jumps is Plushenko.

Pre rotation is not the problem here. The salchow does take off forward because you actually do a back 3 turn as you take off. A single is like a waltz jump and double like an axel. They just decided to give it a different name because it was a different take off.

There are those who make ugly videos on Yuna. It's terrible and shameless. But please do not automatically assume they are all made by the Japanese. The same is done for Mao as well, but I don't jump to conclusions that they're all Korean made. There are anti-Maoists and anti-Yunaists in both countries, and in other countries as well. The only thing I assume about people who make those videos, are that they're not figure skating fans. They've no admiration for the sport nor the skaters.

thank you 20arc and sirbaron. you will find people EVERYWHERE who say terrible things about others, it's not confined to ANY single area. these videos I'm making are not meant to be pro or anti any skater, they're just to show fans that the "prerotation" that many think is a horrible error in jump technique exists in all skaters and is just a natural part of the jump

most jumps, salchows in particular and especially the doubles and triples, have pre rotation. contrary to popular belief, no jump takes off perfectly from backwards. my coach is actually telling me to hold on to the rotation after the three turn/mohawk a little longer because it will make the take off easier and the jump look cleaner and not so swingy. you just have to be careful with how much you prerotate because if you leave it too long, the jump will be downgraded

In order for you to make a fair comparison of skaters, you need to pick one competition and compare their jumps from that competition alone. Otherwise, you are simply cherry-picking jumps that suit you. I would suggest you choose the 2009 Worlds, as it's the most recent competition where most of the big-name skaters competed.

The problem with that is that not all of the skaters completed their jumps at 2009 Worlds. Yu-na popped her salchow and Mao didn't so a sal. I figured the best way to handle it would be to take jumps that were given positive GOE.

Yes, Yuna's salchow is textbook and beautiful. Textbook salchows take off forwards, off the toe, just like Mao, just like Joubert, just like Plushenko, just like Yuna, just like Joannie and just like every other skater.

and then they're leaving the ice sideways in a trajectory TOTALLY opposite where they will be landing. How do they go from jumping in one direction to landing in the opposite? If a CCW skater took off on a 3sal at the 1/4 mark, they would be jumping completely OUTSIDE of the circle of the LBI edge.

1/4?! r u stupid? u kno nothing bout skating. u need to rotate 1/2 on the ice before jumping. if u rotate only 1/4 u'll end up jumping sideways and going off the hip or u'll just skid across the ice with no height and fall on the jump. i take sondra holmes and tammy gambill. i kno how to jump these salchow.

this is why USA sucks now. cause ppl like u dnt kno how to skate yet u think u know it.
