  • We sang this at my mom's funeral - at her request. It was a really great funeral!!

  • I always remember Eddie Blackburn singing this at the folk clubs in BAOR. Many thanks, Eddie, I still love this song and I really enjoyed those folk evenings.

  • ma grandads dieing the now n he loves this song

  • listened to thia song since i was very young. Im scottish but proud to say ive been brought up the Irish way! TAL

  • @Scotzlad95 Well, I'll get a lot of flak for it, but the Scots were originally Irish, mixin' with picts and vikings...yer all Celts who speak Goidelic languages.

  • @Cstrife234 sorry to disalusion you the Scots were a seperate race true some did go to Ireland and did mix but not all of them just check history not the popular myths

  • @Birkbecks Actually, Cstrife234 is absolutely correct. The Scoti after whom Scotland is named, were members of the Goidelic language family that includes Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Manx, and were indeed immigrants from Ireland who mixed with Picts, Norse, and English.

  • The best of the best in the world - the fabric of my childhood, my culture, my blood, my family, my home. Satire, wit, humour, poetry, melody, harmony, beautiful voices, perfect timing, homemade Aran sweaters - Pure Irishness. May Allah bless and guide my people to Islam, and may we sit around the river of wine in paradise and sing this song.

  • sang this at my grandad's wake.

3 elements of a true irish wake:

    1. booze

    2. singing

    3. at least one fist fight

    grandad's had all three!
