  • @donuthole47 I completely agree!!

  • question? why didnt you put the cayman S up against the 135...seems like it would have been a little bit more even eh? orr do the 125 vs the cayman... you cant do top of the line series vs intro class...

  • that BMW was 6000std Poundsss cheeeperr ^^ LMAO

  • the beemer looks like crap!

  • Fifth Gear producer 1: "How about we do a test on handling dynamics for these two cars? No?"

Fifth Gear producer 2: "No, let's just do a slalom test and who can make the most smoke on a drift instead; and we'll use different drivers with entirely different styles!"

What a joke. A true comparo would show a mid-engine weezer out-handling a torquey front engine any day. As an analogy, think a Corvette vs an Elise. I love the Bimmer, but the Cayman outhandles it hands down.

  • @moselyliver

stop taking it so seriously, these are two entirely diffrent cars. like jason pointed out in the video, the 1 series is a small saloon which happens to have a big engine under the bonnet while the porsche was designed to be a sportscar....end of ;)

  • @moselyliver Lol you obviously didnt watch the show???? the BMW was quicker around the track, witch means it has better handling! dont say u think those few extra bhp and torque matters...

Bmw is simply better then Porsche, in all cases tbh but thats a different storry!

Porsches is just overprised penis enlargers..

  • @mkrohne

Obviously you've never owned a Porsche.

  • @mkrohne You should be nominated for the Darwin Award for that comment

  • One other thing... the 135i really has a 404hp engine, detuned to 300. For around $2500 you can have your BMW dealer dial it up for you without affecting the factory warranty. Add a $700 4" down pipe, and your in the mid-11s through the quarter mile and the mid-to-high 3s to 60.

Bottom line: DO NOT race a 135i, anything could be hiding under that hood.

  • I used to be a HUGE Top Gear fan. But I enjoy the boys on 5th a lot more now. This is pure auto entertainment.

    With greetings from Iran

  • oh god I looked this video up to see if fith gear is worth watching (giant top gear fan) I thought it was al quit alright until the last 5 seconds. If that little scripted afterthought is a regular part of the show count me out. terrible acting/presenting

  • Porsche got pwned.

  • @Kaisar It's not bogus because I said so, it's bogus for the reasons I stated. They used two different drivers. They tried to prove the BMW is faster by using two different drivers? And racing both cars at the same time? It would be better to use multiple skilled drivers and average the lap tips. But that wouldn't be as entertaining, and this is an entertainment show. Also, you do realize I'm a BMW fan that called the BMW win bogus, right? It's not like I'm basing this on bias :)

  • The BMW is just plain ugly... Looks like a friggin boat with that upswept line under the driversdoor. Ugliest BMW since the old 7 series.

  • i alwats thought needle is great driver, so if he was beaten in porsche...

  • lol keep repeat 4:10 XD

  • @787Bisurdaddy I could hardly believe that BMW would make a 135i without a manual option, but I wasn't sure. So I went to the BMW website to check it out. Sure enough, there IS a traditional manual option with the ever nice clutch pedal :)

There is also a 7 speed double clutch tranny with paddle shifters...

I'd say they have their bases covered.

  • The BMW is certainly the more practical car, and for every day use, it'd be hard not to pick it over the Porsche. However, the Porsche looks better, drives better, and is more fun to drive, so despite the cost difference, I'd have a hard time choosing the Bimmer over it. This particular Bimmer, however, is lacking something that the Porsche has, something which excludes the Bimmer as an option for me: a gear shifter. I'll take a manual with a clutch pedal, thanks.

  • For all u who dont kno BMW won 24 hr of the ring haha

  • The BMW looks awful were is the Porsche looks great! I'd by the Cayman over the 135i anyday.

  • @CrapDot45 If you had the money. Now dream =)

  • @CrapDot45 That's a matter of taste. I happen to like the BMW more. The Porsche, while beautiful, looks typical, the BMW in the other hand has a real cool, laid back look.

  • it is all about driving pleasure...for instance:

You get much more pleasure on a day-to-day basis out of driving something like a VW GTI because the manual gearbox is so enjoyable to use and the car just feels like what a front wheel drive Porsche would be if they made such a thing. A Subaru WRX265 would blow the doors off of a GTI, but that's not really what it's about...it looks like a Corolla and it makes you feel like a punk.

If you want a visceral experience, choose Porsche.

  • The baby is capable of many things u can think of.

  • Top gear is better

  • id still rather have an e46 m3 than the 135i

  • The Caymen is the worst looking Porsche.

  • @hondacar Oh no...You've mispelled Cayenne!

  • BMW forever. I sure hope the BMW 135tii will hit the streets !! I'd sell my mother for one :)

  • Tiff tortures engines by downshifting from high revs. Listen at 1:27. At this point It seems that Plato things the same as me.

  • Let's not always think about cars in terms of cost. Yes the Porsche costs more; but I will buy a more expensive Porsche any day cos the they use better quality materials as compared to a BMW. Secondly, I can sell my Porsche at a better price than the BMW say in two years time.

  • bmws are for boys. like subarus.

  • the cayman was beat by a 135i!!!!... and they dont put the serie 6M.

  • The reason the BMW needs that much power is because it's way heavier

the Cayman need to be compared with the lighter Z4 Coupe

  • Sorry prettier girls will always favour a porsche badge.

  • Makes no sense. Should've been opposite. In terms of slalom and drifting.

  • Porsche can't be taken in serious consideration doing cars of 245 hp.. even a golf r32 could beat this cayman and this is sad.

Porsche has to put contents in his cars, not only brand and image.

  • you may be paying for the bmw badge but, you sure as hell are paying more for the porsche badge haha

  • biggest difference is you drop 1g on the bmw and gain ~80hp and ~100 torque. Then it wouldn't even be close around the track.

  • Jason Plato and Tiff Needell were professionnal race drivers, they both have a really good racing pedigree, so I think they showed the potential of those cars pretty well

  • bullshit :S BMW 135İ vs CAYMASN S winner cayman s....

    135. vs cayman winner 135i

    porsche is enginering king...

  • Not true, the 0-60 time the 135i would still beat the Cayman S. Where it would become interesting is on a track though, the Cayman S should get it.

  • LOL...2.7 naturaly aspirated engine against a monster 135i twin turbo...

    Unfair comparison

  • Comment removed

  • @Nemo13535

    NA > Turbo

    Track wise at least.

$8,000 less...If you spent $8,000 in upgrades on the Bimmer it wouldn't even be a fair comparison anymore.

  • The n54 engine in that 135i has such low lag that it pretty much eliminates that preference...that said a n54 will overheat while the Cayman keeps going. I own a 335i coupe with Juice Box 3 tune.

  • @akburst510

Do you? Did you get a aftermarket intercooler for the boost/lb increase? If you did then you would know it wouldn't overheat. What about exhaust/downpipe to give the turbo some extra breathing?

  • Man, iunno about you fellas, but that was exciting! I'm a BMW boy (drive an e30 325 lol) but that was really close... I honestly wasn't expecting the Bimmer to win!

--> Who cares though, they're both great cars to drive!!

  • one that porshe whoreis dumb cause the cayman was clearly handled by the bimmer and m3 will kill a 911 non turbo and a m5 is compariable to anything porshe has other then the gt series it kills all their non turbo cars

  • Both cars are butt ugly, and a power slide test is pointless. I am sure the Caymen has much better handling but of course with the added HP plus easy tuning on the bimmer you have a better buy there.

  • lmao. I love these guys.

  • THE ONLY REASON it won the drift test was cuz of the drivers skill not the car.

  • Drifting a mid-engine car is much more difficult than a FR car. The Cayman/Boxsters were designed to turn like they were on rails, not for demonstrating an ability to perform power slides! A comparison with the Cayman S would have been much better for the sake of credibility.

  • ooh by the way my 09' cayman has the new PDK transmission and it shifts like a beast!!! If you dont know what driving a Porsche is like with the new PDK transmission, "I feel sorry for you",,,,,,... Only BMW that should be on the same track as a Porsche is the M5 and above

  • why would any one get a porsche that isnt a 911. its a waste of money. 370z beats it like nothing. cheaper to maintain and looks alot better.

  • @xxxk The cayman has the best handleing of any car out there for starters!! And are you comparing a "Nissan" to a Porsche lol. A nissan lmfao. The porsche will demolish a 370z on any track any day everyone knows this. The only reason you settled for a 370z was bc you cant afford a porsche. Get a big boy's career so u can afford a big boy's car. A nissan lol. I bet the chicks love that pick up line "wanna ride in my nissan" I bet she has a nissan too...

  • But a Porsche wont demolish a GTR

  • @xaviergroup09 i like both nissan and porsche but hey what about a nissan skyline vs the cayman ? :P

  • thats not in the same class bro but what about a veyron vs gtr

  • @borladyno gtr would get smoked ^^ but how about typhoon eurofighter vs bugatti ? hehe check it out on top gear hah :D

  • @NarowAR07 i love that video

  • well, the cayman S is as fast as a Porsche 911 carrera on certain tracks... pretty embarassing... if they really tried to make the cayman as fast as it can be, I'm not so sure it wouldn't be faster than a 911

  • @Yanp87 I remember Top Gear's report on the Cayman. It's suspiciously placed right in the middle of the Boxster and 911 in every way, power, performance, price etc. They didn't make it as fast as it could be on purpose.

  • @xaviergroup09 370z has 350bhp the porsche cayman has 265 so good luck with that bruv

  • Comment removed

  • @xaviergroup09 A GT-R will destroy most Porsches, even if it is "just a Nissan."

  • What about a Carrera GT?

  • This test was stupid and the results are not valid! The second driver was better than the first. The same driver should have taken both cars around the track and then check the times, then the results would be more accurate. I have a 09' cayman and I never lost to a BMW ever!! especially a 1series BMW lol. Hands down Cayman is the better car I promise,,,,,...

  • I would wonna be with them and finaly know how the super fast speed feels.

  • What's the matter with Jason here? Normally, i am not a fan of this program but what the hell happened with him; when he starts with the BMW lap here, he looks strange.

  • porsche over bmw anyday

  • *sigh*

Good entertainment..perhaps. But as a huge BMW fan I can say the entire thing is just bogus. Two different drivers? When you get on a track, the skill of the driver starts to matter a lot more than an extra 50hp. Yes, the BMW "Won", and it's faster in a straight line, and frankly it's a better car. But it was still a bogus "race". There Porsche fans, I threw you a bone ;-)

  • yes the bmw won .. but an extra 50 hp isnt really a fair fight.

on the other hand the Carrera S will whoup an M6 on any given day.

  • @EarendilStar porsche will win with serious drivers!!:P

  • @EarendilStar

BMW is better than Porsche? Its like comparing a lamborghini tractor to a ferarri enzo. BMW is overpriced "advanced consumer" product. Porsche has countless racing teams and it used to make the engines on Elefants the biggest anti-tank tracked vehicle ever made. BMW at the time settled with bikes. I think we can see here who would carry the tradition better.

  • @razoleg

Nowhere did I say that BMW is a better company, I said that between those two cars, I think the BMW is better. And yes, comparing the two companies and what they produce today is silly. Porsche makes a different kind of car on average. However you have made a few grievous errors in your attempts to define BMW.

    1. BMW has a very long and successful racing history, and still races today.

    2. The fastest naturally aspirated production car ever, the Mclaren F1, was powered by a BMW engine.

  • @EarendilStar

BMW's the best. More engine awards, less likely to go bankrupt, looks nicer, and it's more comfortable.

  • @ErosaScuderia Har Har. BMW less likely to go bankrupt than VW? Unlikely.

  • @EarendilStar well said xD

  • @EarendilStar cant be bogus just because yo u thought so. there are BMW and Porsche officials who take a lot of feed back through such tests that are shown to common public. Its a matter of changing policies about certain models that are available at the time when tests are taken. It greatly affects sales and also the consumer opinion about manufacturers

next time dont come up with home cooked recipes

  • bmw please bring back your old designer

  • ^^All BMW 1-series are incredibly ugly!

  • just like your MOM!!

  • whos the old designer? i think its kinda wierd looking becaus ethey tried to incorperate elements of the old 2002's from the 70s

  • I don't know who the old designer was but I know that BMW changed their designer who designed the current line-up and they are just no where near as appealing as the ones from 2002, 2003

  • true. yea e46 m3, doesnt get much prettier...

  • BMW IS the BEST !!!!!!

  • der. it's the drivers. Switch the drivers - switch the results.

  • I bet they love their jobs :D

That bimmer still looks fugly compared to the Cayman, imho ofcourse

  • yep, I would have to agree. This particular porsche looks great. I like BNW's, but, something is off with this one. IMHO as well. :)

  • I dont believe you.

  • J.P is a grand touring racer

  • thanks for posting. enjoyed watching. thanks

  • I'm surprised they didn't mention the Porsche's variable ratio steering, which is awful. IMHO the Cayman is the clear winner, but the steering completely ruins it.

  • Having driven both, I was blown away by the 135, the gadgets, the roomy back seat, the feel. Whereas the Cayman, I kept expecting something amazing... that never happened.

p.s. I have a 911 so I was a bit biased going into the comparison.

  • But cayman doesnt have the limited slip differential and that can have speed impact during the turns in corner.

  • you can get it added on. its an option.

  • slip diff isnt cheap. Its quite expensive especially in cars like porshe.

  • I'm not sure it's necessary to be honest in a mid engined 300bhp car. Mind you, it's mainly driving pleasure I'm after, not speed.

  • rob thats for you, but im pretty sure some people will buy these and race them.

  • Point taken. By race though I guess you mean track days? For actual racing the car would be heavily modified with LSD etc anyway, not to mention grippier tyres which might make the LSD redundant anyway. For track days outright pace is less important than driving enjoyment, but I suppose it's a matter of opinion - having driven both these cars a fair amount I'd take both without the added dynamic complication of an LSD, but I can understand someone who might want an LSD also.

  • If anyone's racing a car they'll strip it back to the shell anyway and fit things like an LSD, different suspension etc. The LSD will just be one of many mods they'd probably make. As sold it's a road car with maybe the odd track day in mind, which is what 99% of buyers will do.

  • That depends on what people do with their cars. LSD is highly useful if your car is a AWD and wants to drift.

LSD main purpose is to create oversteer or understeer depending on the accell and decel settings.

  • cayman s, 3.4 litre engine.

    drove on last week.

    beautiful to drive.

and you'd get more skirt than if you owned a beamer !

  • Err Cayman S starts at £45k, £15k more than the 135i. You'd be better comparing it to the M3 (£51k) which it would do nothing short of whimper at.

  • bmw is the best

  • you see him shift at 2:40

  • Doesn't really look like an automatic to me. No paddles on the wheel (optional though) and he seems to be moving his left leg after the lap around the track when he shifts. Also, I drove the 135i today and the tiptronic transmission doesn't have that much throw in the manumatic mode.

  • why does the gayman...oh sorry, Cayman...such an expensive car? i mean, i don't really like porches...i don't play golf.

  • this is so stupid.. bmw series 1 'beating' cayman. quite amazing

  • but ask yourself with which car do you impress your girl the most ?

  • undoubtedly with porsche:)

  • Its optional!!!!!

  • Does the 135i have automatic transmission? Why would you want that in a sportscar?

  • because it's faster.

  • yes it may be faster but it would take away the racing sensation: in my opinion shifting gear manually is an essential part of driving a sportscar.

  • I agree

  • You can see and hear him shift right after he finishes the race.

  • paddle shift, genius

  • Its optional triptronic

  • bmw

  • jason takes the good cars :P

  • lol, people in Britain call coupes coupAYEs...

  • because its spelled coupé and é is pronounced ay or eh in french

  • 4:37 She has no facial features.

  • German engineering. Where are all the Japenese cars now.

  • Japan has gone green.. Eco-friendly cars are the future and we all will be driving Japanese vehicles.

  • na man they just came out with the gt-r.. but yea thats probably a one off

  • saionara

  • No BMW can touch Porsches like the GT2 and GT3 though.

  • yeah the cls m3

  • thats the lightened one?

  • the epically lightened one

  • (it's actually as fast as the M3.)

  • 135i is faster than most 3ers and 5ers.

  • fuck they got the highest model in the 1 series but they got the base cayman it should be a cayman s to be a fair comaprision fuck fith gear they r sick top gear is da best

  • the BMW is still cheaper new though

  • and still it is a 1er bmw not a 3er/5er/6er ;) nor even the m3/m5 ;)

  • its was for 30k price thats why

  • 3:46 What does "grund" mean?

    THX

  • "Grunt" as in the sound. You can use urbandictionary[dot]com to look this kind of stuff up.

  • Grunt and it means torque.

  • When he is talking about "grunt" he is talking bout the power not the sound. It's a bit of a colloquialism so a dictionary may not have helped you much.

  • Cayman hands down!

  • Comment removed

  • The Cayman S would take the 135i. But then again if it had AWD and a stiffer suspension it would probably hold its own.

  • the porsche has a 2.7l 6cylider engine and bmw a 3.5 v6 which kind of competition is that but if the porsche werw cayman s i will be fare

  • its not a 3.5 its a 3.0 its just called 135

  • Its a 3.0L inline 6, and the comparisons are based on price, and car class, the Cayman is already 12grand more then the 135.

  • more like an line 3 litre twin turbo

  • M-Power!!!

  • damn right ! bmw owns all

  • LMAO! Dont thumb this down! It actually made me laugh.

  • i dont even remember what i said and i cant see it because everyone thumbed it down it must have been cool

  • You said, i met the blonde girl at a pub and she sucked my willy. :P

  • yeah, that really happened

  • Both these idiots are drifting their cars through corners when trying to set a fastest laptime.

There is a camera car on the track which they have to evade at certain points.

    Seriously.. this show is bullshit.

  • Thats why you should watch top gear and he stig :) haha but..yeh couldn't find a lot of new ep. of top gear in this site

  • I've got a Cayman and a colleague at work has a 135i. The BMW is sporty and a hell of a car no doubt, but it's still a BMW - different segment. I got the Cayman because of the handling and mid-engine.. yes it could do with some more HP, but Porsche was being careful not to shoot themselves in the foot and step into 911's land. I love my Cayman and it's a wonderful machine, and a HELL of a looker with 19! wheels ;-) and btw.. ppl dont turn around to check my friend's BM..

  • Exactly!

YOu know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Neither of the cars is better or worse.. they're different.

Both cars have their own special worth :)

People always want to hear what they have is best.. but they shouldn't :P

  • the in the BMW can drift at all and BMW is a mother of drifting.Ans he cant drive shit he was drifting by false on the 3rd part.

  • Quit talking about the Coxster S, because BMW will just bring out their very own... Z4M Coupe. Go BMW!

  • Really both cars were excellent! I like the Beemer more, so I am going to say that it deserves it more

  • I'm a 100% BMW fan but I adore Porsche as well.

I was really expecting more out of the Cayman

  • i agree, but, just feel bether for us bmw-fans :-)

  • The BMW is cheaper and it has what like 50-60 more hp. They would need a cayman S which would be better, but it costs more. It's a Porsche though, competes with ferrari and lambos etc.

  • This is not such a surprise, we already knew that Porsches are more expensive for each horsepower...

But I love both cars, BMW must be perfect as a daily sports car, the Cayman as a toy for in the weekends! ;)
