i do take fish but not for the sake of it, only to be eaten, if the species cant be consumed, whats the point of killing it? why not weigh & release it on the boat? cod are returned from water of over 200 ft in norway, these are cod of 35lb plus are our cod different?
@palmer3977 I appreciate your sentiments and I hear what you say, but you clearly have not caught many white fish yourself from deep water. Don't believe all that you see on TV. I have experimented by deflating their swim bladder with a canula (a hollow needle) but it was not a notable success. If you don't want to eat the fish, then do as I often do and stop fishing when you have caught what you need.
@palmer3977 We do ! Some fish such as Pollack, Cod, Ling, Whiting etc, will not go back successfully if brought up from deeper than around 66 feet, because their swim bladders expand as they are brought up to the surface. Anglers legitimately take fish for our own table. What we don't require we always return to grow, breed and fight again another day. If you don't ever take fish, then you should not go angling.

i cant understand WHY you don't catch & release the eel's & ray's unless they are to be eaten, this should apply to ALL fish
