  • Awesome. I've accumulated a ton of holey socks, most of them aren't even that old, that will definitely be back in business now.

  • id rather go to kohls.

  • Feet cold, reaching for darning basket.

  • "the more stitches the less riches"

  • @georgiaboyinak Thanks for the Brave New World quote. I wonder what colour clothes you wear - delta, gamma? And to all, please keep in mind that "ending is better than mending." Facetiously yours.

  • ok, but could be a lot better (give us some instructions on what youre doing)

  • and how is this helpful??? theres no verbal instruction, the camera angle sux, and the woman is mumbling.

  • Thank you very much!

  • Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge. I am not able to find the brand of socks that I favor for work which now have small holes in the toes. I used this video to repair them nicely. I can't even fele a difference. I used a light bulb per your suggestion. Your a jewel to share !

  • Sure, your welcome. Knowledge like this helped out my family during the Great Depression in Canada.

Maybe check out the "Great Depression Cooking" videos by YouTube user DepressionCooking - a 91 year old grandma in Chicago area.

  • Great, but look at the British version where the camera looks at the needle and wool only, not the person. Could cut between the two, combine technique of both and your video (including your lady talking) would be perfect.

  • Dat sounds purdy sophitimicated. On the farm, pestimicides have done damaged our brains. you just go with what ya got.

The problem with the British one is that it tries too hard for someting so simple. I think people can get the idea that you just need a light bulb, a big needle and some yarn and you go back and forth one way and then intertwine those threads at 90 degrees. And it should take less than 10 minutes.

  • Precious footage - thank you for being brave and filming this for all of us. This will save a lot of my husband's more expensive socks. And the darning egg is still widely available.

  • Indeed, brave as in "Brave New World",,,

The bravery continues in negotiations to possibly sell this video to a Hollywood production studio for an MTV show. I was approached by them - not the other way around.

What price do you think is fair? $1000 was the last offer.

  • father mackenzie writing the to a surmon that noone will hear, noone comes near,Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there

    What does he care?.........

    :)

  • A lost skill. I've had to learn this because a couple of people in the family wear very large sizes that are difficult to find and buy. Darning was the only way to keep enough socks around. BTW, I found using an old lightbulb to be a better pedestal. It's rounder and larger and provides a more natural curve to larger socks.

  • I prefer light bulbs as well - old incandescent ones. If they burn out they are still good for something - darning socks.

  • excellent idea! thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks I was wondering how to darn socks. Now I know. Thanks for passing on the wisdom.

  • This is great. Thanks :)

  • Highly educational, thank you

  • Excellent! We need to kep simple skills like this alive. Thank you for posting this.
