I like hearing this piece on that Frenchier plenum you get with some Dutch organs like this, it's a nice change of piece. Can definitely tell it's Koopman playing, and this is not too fast for this piece; that prelude is just right. Danza!
@advisor: Please do not preach to me about Baroque Rhetoric. I know about Rhetoric in Baroque music - organ and otherwise, and Ton does not provide us with that in this
particular P and F. It sounds way too much like CPE Bach's description of music that sounds like "chopping cabbage" - notes and not music. PERIOD.
@DainGerrUsss, I would not expect an ignorant philistine such as your self to have any more an understanding of Baroque rhetoric than I do. Especially given your extraordinary lack of objectivity. Do some studying, you'll soon enough see how hideously incorrect you are. Until then, sayonara.
The Prelude sounds like Ton has a need to go and relieve himself. WHY IS HE PLAYING SO FAST! The pipes barely have time to sound. This grand prelude should have life, but it should never sound like an etude! Now, the fugue is a bit better, but is generally over-articulated. There is next to no sense of the linear qualities of this piece. I sometimes find myself getting excited when the pedal finally comes in, but not here with Ton. There is NO sense of drama in the playing of the fugue.
@DainGerrUsss, take some time to understand the baroque style of playing and you'll see why he frequently uses these high tempos and 'unorthadox' rhetoric. And as for how it should sound is only your opinion (which I actually do respect in any case). In my opinion however Bach's music is made to be played differently. Just my two cents.
As one of those odd people who randomly searches out beautiful music, I was most happy to stumble upon this wonderful rendition. Beautifully played on a spectacular instrument!
I think if you are aware of these informations it's good to share with your viewers. I knew it was Bach and could have guessed it was performed by Koopman, but there might be people who come here, love the music, and would want to see other videos from the same performer/composer - only they knew who he/she it was...
@peteacher52, That's your own problem. I didn't make these videos, a friend of mine did. He lost all the information pretaining to them. Deal with it.
@advisorC101 My comment was neither criticism nor put-down, but a statement of fact. Your clip has had 1952 views but only 7 likes in 1 year, and only one other comment. If you can't handle a suggestion, then disable comments.
This organ is a landmark instrument. I am an organ lover. Such people like information about the musician and the instrument.
If I am out of order here, then let other viewers tell me, in courteous language and not in the way that you tried to lay the blame on me.
@peteacher52, Spare me your futile strawman rubuttal. I never took it as a criticism, the video isn't popular because my channel isn't popular. There's plenty of folks who post hundreds of videos with all the information you could dream of yet they get less than a handful of views every few years. In case you haven't noticed, youtube is constantly being bombarded with new videos and most folks care more about the likes of Lady Gaga than that of Bach or the organ.
@peteacher52, Second, you didn't suggest anything. You merely dropped a comment insinuating that the video was a dissapointment due to the lack of information. That's all you said, and nothing more. If anything, it's your problem that you weren't clear enough. Try to not misrepresent my position before you knock it down.
You don't watch a video and like or dislike it due to lack of information. Most people just pass by, listen, and move on. I don't disable comments either, I'm not a coward.
@Secondlifecreator Thank you for your assistance. I would love to hear these wonderful Dutch instruments in person, but I live as far away from the Netherlands as it is possible to get, so that's not going to happen. Greetings from NZ.
@peteacher52, So if you're going to go on about something being a dissapointment, then address the content of the video itself, and not the misgivings of the uploader. At least that way you'll sound less superficial.

With no description or information given, the video is very disappointing.

@peteacher52
Exuse the dutch poster, that is so ignorant...
I lived and was born in den bosch )were you can find the cathedral)
Please typ in wikipedia 's Hertogenbosch and you will find a very detailled drawing even of the entire organ :)
Loose translation (wiki dutch only on the organ) Build in the period 1618-1638 door Floris Hocque
The chest is one of the most important monumental pieces out of the Renaissance
Several renovations and renovted back to late 1700..
