There's a reason why there were alot more bands in the 50s. The music was easier to play and beginner friendly. You should start off with some simple 50s blues or rock and roll. The patterns are easy enough to pick up and will get you to work on your timing plus learn your way around the fretboard. Don't start with something too hard, that what discourages most beginners.

@emusedone The thing you have to remember about half these idiots is that they've been playing their entire lives with the dream of "making it" and they haven't made more than 20 bucks for a 3 hour gig which means by the time they pay for their gas and beverages they're minus 20 bucks for the night. @emusedone The thing you have to remember about half these idiots is that they've been playing their entire lives with the dream of "making it" and they haven't made more than 20 bucks for a 3 hour gig which means by the time they pay for their gas and beverages they're minus 20 bucks for the night. Just keep doing what you do and remember not to stoop to their level and put other people down as you become better and better.
