Germany declared war on us 6 days after Pearl Harbor. There was no secret war, FDR made it very clear that we would 'sell' weapons to the UK and wage an aggressive defence of our shipping lanes 6 months before Hitler declared war on us. Hitler used this as his excuse, but in reality he had signed the Triplet pact which stated should any of it's signers find itself at war with the USA, then the others would also be at war with the USA.
@XxxSakura101 The United States was asking for war with the European Axis powers, I can give you mean reasons its just obvious, The United States was also pushing for war with Japan freezing assets and stopping Oil supplies, etc. Hitler made fools out of the United States,Roosevelt gave Hitler alist of countries not to invade, Hitler invade half of the countries and made many attempts to conquer the rest, The U.S done nothing accept trade to help there economy!
@martynrobin121 Pushing for war and trying to get them to leave are two different things. We cut off trade with Japan and placed an oil embargo on them in an attempt to get them to pull out of China. 97% of our population (1940) did not want to become involved in what they saw as just another European war of what there had been innumerable in the past.
@XxxSakura101 The Japs invaded China in the early1930s, The U.S oil embargo only started when the Japs threatend U.S interests, Whitch pushed the Japs to attack U.S. And Africa,Asia are not part of Europe it became a world conflict, Germany broke the Treaty Versailles the U.S done nothing, The U.S gave Hitler a list of FREE nations not to invade, Hitler invaded 1 after anouther and the U.S done nothing! U.S only cared for there economy and making money there own interests, not others!
@martyrobin121 How did Hitler make "fools of us"? Hitler was outraged that we protected our shipping with aggressive tactics (scanning for and sinking his U-boats) and escorting them to the middle of the Ocean and into airspace the RAF could reach and patrol against SS activity. So tell me what countries we told Hitler not to invade, and him do so anyways.
@XxxSakura101 The U.S president gave the Germans a list of free nations, That the Nazis could not invade or attack. The U.S just watched and done nothing when the Germans invaded most of the Nations on that list and made many attempts to conquer others, Hitler was laughing in the Reich at the U.S president. And yes the U.S wanted Germany and the Axis to be defeated, But they wanted to wait and watch and make money, Also to bankrupt nations they saw as enemies,-Britian,etc.
@martynrobin121 The only countries that we had placed a guarantee on was those in the Americas under the Monro doctrine that states that no country could demand land in exchange for peace (Imperialism). As for "Helping the axis economy" (Where do you think of this sort of crap?) i guess the frozen assets and economic blockade did the opposite? What a load of crap, why are you trying to demonize us?
@XxxSakura101 I never said the U.S helped Axis economy, I said the U.S only cared for there OWN economy and interests, The U.S was in depression and with the world war there economy went sky high, The U.S got everything they wanted and more. Also the U.S wanted British Empire to win against the Axis but wanted the British to destory the Axis and so the U.S could make money and bankrupt and destroy Britain by economic ruin, The war was like the lifeline of America.
@martynrobin121 Try listening/reading Hitler's DOW speech against the US, he specifically mentions the US's stance against German submarines, sending weapons, economic 'warfare' and "plans to attack Germany by 1943 according to a Chicago newspaper" as justification with the cornerstone being the triplet pact.
@XxxSakura101 Hitler knew the United States only cared for there own interests and wouldnt get involved in the war, Hitler pushed the U.S when he went against the Treaty of Versailles, And then Hitler pushed the U.S when he invaded nations after nations, That the U.S said Germany couldnt! However the U.S was pushing Germany for war and Pearl Harbour was abig shock to Hitler. The U.S sold and traded with Axis enemies and only sold the Axis certain materials.
The USA were running a secret war against Hitler long before they declared war on Japan. They had US pilots in the battle of Britain and rearmed both Britain and Russia as well as forcing the German navy to scuttle their ships rather lose them to the US after German sailors were interned and ship seized after docking. You don't need a declaration on a piece of paper to be involved in a war. Although the US do like their treaty's just ask the red indian.
The Congressman is correct. Check the historical records. The United States did not declare war on Germany because Germany first declared war on the United States. Under international law, the United States did not have to reciprocate with its own declaration.
But war is war, and the morons that cite the idea that the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan are not legit because they were not declared is sheer idiocy. The United States has only declared war on five occasions.
1. War of 1812
2. Mexican-American War
3. Spanish-American War
4. World War I
5. World War II
So, in fact, the rest of the fights in our history were never really "wars", and Mr. Hayworth is correct.
@ACRScout57 Only Congress has the Constitutional power to declare war.
A president can, and all of them have, ask for authority to deal with hostilities, and wether it was Pirates in the Med, Korea, Vietnam or Iraq, the hostilities have sometimes escalated into a full blown war.
So you disagree with the anti war groups that claim that the wars we are currently engaged in are illegal due to the lack of a declaration? If "war" is automatic at the opening of hostilities, then a declaration is of little relevance.
I don't get it, exactly what point is he trying to make here?
As for Japan and Germany declaring war on America first, that is a moot point.
With the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, a state of war existed between America and Japan's Axis allies with or without a formal congressional declaration.
Not True! The attack came the morning of 7 December 1941, the declaration was not committed until December 8, 1941. In the interim, we were in a "conflict" with Japan until the 8th, only the request of the President to make the Declaration retroactive to the 7th changed that. The state of war is not automatic based on beginning of hostilities. If it were every war we were in would be considered a "war" including the current ones, which are not legally declared wars.
So by your logic every conflict including Vietnam, Korea, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Bosnia have been actual wars, not illegal military actions as the left claims.
It is true Germany did declare war on the U.S.A. first. Watch the history channel for 5 minutes and you would know this. Germany and Italy declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941 in compliance with their agreement with Japan to do so; and the US responded by declaring war on both Italy and Germany.
@RippieMcFart Don't take just my word for it; there are plenty of sources of info out there on it - just as a random one, go to Wikipedia and look-up "List of recessions in the United States" and scroll down the 3 periods mentioned, read each of the 3 entries, and feel free to follow-up with the sources cited; less than 10 minutes of web searching can find plenty of info on it
@wolverine11117 This was of course in response to Germany declaring war on the United States FIRST. This came as a surprise to the US Government, and there was almost no public support for a war in Europe even AFTER Pearl Harbor. Hitler did FDR a favor by declaring war. Had he not done that, it is unlikely that FDR would have been able to get Congress to support a war in any theatre other than the Pacific.
Obama takes the prize for stupid. He said we would get the same oil benefit from filling our tires with air as from drilling more. He thinks spending is stimulus when you take money out of the economy and put it back in after wasting most of it on bureaucracy and corruption. He does not even know how to pronounce CORP and he cannot speak without a teleprompter. He is a pathetic brainwashed Marxist ideologue.
@RippieMcFart Ummm.....can you not read? "aggregate supply and demand charts." Perform one with the given that the economy is in recession. Apply stimulus. What happens? Aggregate demand shifts right (increases). Real employment increases. Prices return to market levels.
Typical anti-education rightist has no education and therefore has no idea what Marxism is and applies the term to anyone who is not a sucker for the supply side failure of the cancer known as Ronald Reagan.
@jonnerbuns26 More accusations without support. It is you and all Government Worshipers that do not understand economics. "Applying stimulus" means you have to Take it from the Free market. Taxing corporations means taking from all rich to poor. You then have to pay bureaucrats to push paper and inherent gov. corruption and finally put back some small amount of money to the economy. They brainwash the weak minded like you with Keynesian economics. Reagan set up 25 years of economic growth.
Really, then why did we have a recession with Bush in office directly after Reagan? FACT: Taxes were higher on the rich and poor when Reagan was president. Look it up.
@rmcd The internet bubble burst less than one year before Bush took office, then oil prices went from historic lows (Luck for Clinton) to historic highs (thanks to Leftists that won't let us drill). Can all of you Government boot lickers really be that dishonest? It's hard to believe. Reagan cut corp. taxes (that's CORP not COR, Barak) from 48% to 34%, which is a regressive tax. Reagan reduced the top tax bracket from 70% to 28% so you could not be a bigger lier.
@RippieMcFart 25 years of economic growth? Which 25 years were those, as there was a bad recession in the early 80s on his watch (the worst until the current one), another one in the early 90s that helped remove his former VP from the Presidency (Clinton's campaign mantra was "It's the economy, Stupid!"), and the one in the early 2000s that resulted in a "jobless recovery" (which means it isn't really a recovery) under W; so again, which 25 years do you mean?
@Starmiter1 Obviously the first years of Reagan were recovering from Carter. "jobless recovery"? Unemployment averaged around 5 percent under George W. What planet are you living on/ Moreover, if you consider campaign slogans to be economic evidence, you are totally hopeless.
all this according to "RippieMcFart". LOL. Know this...Bush, Obama, Clinton, any of them...you don't become leader of the free world by being "stupid", "brainwashed", "pathetic", or a "Marxist ideologue".
@rmcd OK so now you Government Worshipers are saying Bush was smart? Bush was dumb too, thats why he went along with the Socialist Drug program and the Mostly Democrat bailout Corporate Well fare to bring big business and Gov power together into an enormous force.
Actually this is a historical fact. So what's the big deal? His point is that, since Germany was allied with Japan as an Axis Power, if the US declares war against Japan, this is automatic that it is at war with all Axis Powers including Mousollini's Italy and the French Vichy Army. The Allies consisted of US, UK and former Commnwealth states, Russia, the French Resistance, etc.
@AccordGTR HA! That's not how it works, bub.....This man is just another undereducate big mouth supported by an equally undereducated bunch of boobs who are as totally dumb as he is.
@172677 Well, your statement totally discredits the American political system and the American people. I'm not American and I don't agree with some of its foreign policy but I would like to believe that US congressmen are not dumb. Some are corrupt and dishonest but they have access to a lot and have so much resources at their disposal.
@AccordGTR You may like to believe that some of our politicians aren't dumb...but facts speak otherwise. We've a lot of them...this man is just the latest. One of the curent candidates didn't know Puerto Rico was a U.S. Territory...then there is Sarah Palin, probably the dumbest woman in our country..who, if McCain had won, would have been a heartbeat away from the Presidency. We Americans must be vigilant to keep these morons in place, believe me.
Germany declared war on US FIRST, this is true. but then US responded with declaration of war too. even though was supporting the allies, US didn't declare war on Germany until after pearl harbor attack and subsequent German declaration of war on US. Don't revise history.
By the way, World War II started in 1939 NOT 1941.
@sultanknish Our involvement was helping keep the Atlantic shipping lanes safe and transporting goods to Britain and Europe. We did nothing while Hitler was marching through Europe and practicing genocide...until Pearl Harbor when Germany declared war on us - and Congress declared war against them, Dec. 11, 1941. Until then, we were not involved in combat operations with troops.
@sultanknish see AccordGTR response to me, not sure why it was for me. both of your statements don't contradict what i said. Germany declared war on US first. US was involved by supplying not by military.
@sultanknish No they weren't, you nitwit. The only conflict between US and Germany prior to declaration of war was at sea.... U.S. was sending goods to Britain who was being bombed to hell. As Allies, the U.S. (and other allies, BTW) provided escort and safety to British ships... U.S. ships also protected from Uboats who were blowing up military and civilian vessels. That's not war, fool.
@sultanknish No, they weren't. Any actions were purely defensive to protect our ships transporting goods to Britain and to protect British ships at sea...and the base at Keflavik was established first by Britain in 1940 to protect shipping lanes. The U.S. didn't establish their base until 1941 - AFTER war was declared. You know, all this info is readily available on the internet. I suggest you do a little reading.
@sultanknish that's because Germany attacked US naval vessels protecting aid to Britain. officially though, US and Germany were not at war, until Germany declared war on the United States as result of Tripartite Pact . Sorry, there is no way to spin this. this is history. there is nothing positive or negative about this.
@sultanknish - You HAVE no point. Your first comment plainly stated that Hayworth was right, that the US "NEVER FORMALLY DECLARED WAR ON THE US." This is clearly untrue and you've yet to admit this. Now all you're doing is trying your damnedest to change the subject and further distort the initial issue. Dude, you have ZERO credibility 'cause now you're simply beiing intellectually dishonest because you can't defend your initial premise.
@sultanknish - How pithy....Yes, I made an error,...at least I can admit I made a mistake and own up to it. But that doesn't change the face that Hayworth apparently still believes we never declared war on Germany and it seems that you do as well.
@undocumentedspot HISTORY CHANNEL "WW2 FILMS" confirmed what Cong. Hayworth said (see my last post). Before Pearl Harbor, US was shipping war materiel & vital supplies to UK. Germany was sinking those ships with loss of American life. Despite that, US remained neutral due to public opinion. Pres. Roosevelt wanted to declare war with Germany but public did not want until Pearl Harbor happened and Germany declared war on America a few days later. So US was left with no choice.
@AccordGTR. I guess that would be news to most of Europe, North Africa, the Balkans, Poland, China, Japan, the entirety of Southeast Asia, the Phillipines. Need I go on? WW2 was well underway when the US finally got involved.
@rmcd Yes that is true. Some Americans were fighting for England and US colonies before 1941 but the general public wanted to stay neutral so Roosevelt could not declare war on Germany and Japan until they did.
Damn I knew it was coming, we have a state that demands to see your papers and now we have a congressman redefining our relationship with Hitler ...what's next on the list?
Orwell we won't let you down ...I'm so excited about our new America.
@Deepstarr7020 Have I missed something? How was the Cong. redefining US-Nazi relations? He stated chronological facts, nothing more. I don't know the background of this video but it seems to me he was stating a legal precedent that you do not have to formally declare war on a nation to be "at war" with them. From Vietnam, I read that, because the US never formally declared war, they could not extend soldiers terms by more than 1-year. If they are at war, then the govt can do anything it wishes
@quizerry OK assuming you are correct, I would think there is a difference between declaring war and declaring that a state of war exists. Its like I say to your face, I'm going to kill you. You say, OK, apparently we hate each other and will try to kill each other. I'm no lawyer but I think the Cong. was talking about these legal differences. For most people, it sounds ridiculous but for lawyers and politicians, these details are important in making a point and pushing a political agenda
Hayworth is technically correct from a strict Constitutional perspective. His critics are making shallow jokes because they haven't bothered to do their research.
@sultanknish - Bullshit...JD Hayworth isn't only technically incorrect, he's FACTUALLY incorrect from a "constitutional" perspective.
On December 11th 1941, the US Senate voted 88-0 and House voted 393-0 to FORMALLY declared war against Germany AND Italy (Italy 399-0 & 90-0). What 'research' do you or Hayworth have that refutes these FACTS?
Why is it that people who are wrong can't simply admit their error without engaging in revisionism?
@broadjumper1 Germany had a pact with Japan and Italy. By declaring war on Japan, the US had already indirectly declared war on Germany. The US Declaration of War was in response to the German declaration of war.
That's not even considering Roosevelt's Navy Day address well before Pearl Harbor which basically was a war speech.
@sultanknish - What is there to debate? Hayworth is WRONG, and your efforts to defend his statement are absurd. What you're trying to say is nation1 declares war upon nation 2 and in doing so ALSO is declaring war on nation 3 who has a military alliance with the nation 2. First off, that's NOT legal in our government and it doesn't support Hayworth's contention that we "FORMALLY DECLARED WAR on Germany." Dude, just admit you're wrong.
@broadjumper1 maybe you need to check your facts, but Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941, which the US declared war of Japan on Dec 8, 1941. Germany then declared war on the US on Dec 11, 1941 to which the United States immediately reciprocated by declaring war against Germany that same day
@yamsyamsyams - There's NOTHING to check, your facts agree with what I already stated. It's Hayworth who claims that "the US NEVER FORMALLY DECLARED WAR on Germany." I know that we did, and you'd see that if you'd read my previous comments.
@yamsyamsyams Japan attacked Pearl Harbor Because the American Government at that time Wanted War so much on the Japanese Empire .
Where are the Facts you may ask ? History Book ..before Pearl Harbor attack it was almost 5 years that the U.S was pissing off the Japanese interfering systematicaly in any of the Japanese business in asia because Japan was strong enough to tell the U.S they do not want them . Pearl Harbor , Vietnam , 9/11 have been orchestrated to push the U.S people to go to war
No, not really. The Japanese had made a decision by the late 20's and early 30's that they wanted to be self sufficient by expanding their empire. This would involve eventually moving to take Oil rich regions in the south which would involve attacking the British and American holdings.
That is why they simultaneously attacked the oil rich regions of the south whilst attacking Pearl harbor, since it would ensure that there would be no American response.
@DorianGrayism Don't forget Spain, France, Dutch, German and British empires came first, conquering America, Africa, Asia. Americans fought British then became an empire, taking the Philippines in 1896 from Spain as well as other colonies, like Guam, etc. Then Japan said, "Ok, if its ok for the West to invade and conquer other lands, we will do the same." It took Korea (1905) and later China. But the West said, "Well, wait a minute, you can't do that! That's wrong!" So Japan fought back.
@sattanhellsing So, FDR called Emperor Hirohito and said "OK, you can attack Pearl Harbor now". Japan had been preparing for war and invasion of the South Pacific and other regions for more than 20 years. This "well kept" secret was widely known and several countries had been negotiating with Japan to avoid the conflict. What you know about that history is pitiful.....
@sultanknish A debate takes place between 2 or more EDUCATED AND INFORMED people. Debate with some of you morons is impossible. You cannot debate a doorknob and that's the mentality of most of you boobs.
@robertmike57 Boy, you speak the truth. Honestly, until Fox started sticking a camera in the faces of these morons, I didn't realize there were so many absolutely stupid adults in our country. It's one thing to read statistics on uneducated boobs and the dumbing-down of America...it's quite another thing to hear from their own mouths how awfully, awfully ignorant they are.
@sultanknish - I don't care what 'pact' Japan had with Germany, Germany also had pacts with Russia, this doesn't mean the US recognized them. Your logic isn't only flawed, it's downright WRONG. Yes our declaration was a response to theirs, so what? That doesn't make Hayworth right. And Roosevelt's speech is irrelevent, ONLY Congress could declare war, not Roosevelt. Once again, WHY can't simply admit their error without engaging in revisionism?
@broadjumper1 The point is that FDR was talking as if he were at war and the US was engaged in naval hostilities with Germany before the declaration of war
@sultanknish - This is what upsets people, your LAST statement has nothing to do with your first. What a President says publicallly and what he's authorized to do by Congress aren't generally the same thing. And for your information, hostilities have occured between nations throughout history wihout a defacto 'state of war' preexisting. Once again, you're nothig more than a revisionist who refuses to simply admit he's WRONG.
@broadjumper1 Again you're confusing theory with reality.
A President can take unauthorized actions, he just isn't supposed to go that route. Obviously hostilities occur between nations without a declaration of war. That is the entire point, as this entire argument goes to that question.
@sultanknish - and you're simply equivocating. Nothing you've said has a damned thing to do with what Heyworth said, try listening to it again....if you want to say that the President NOW has broader war powers than Roosevelt had in the 40's, then simply say that. But this still doesn't address the obvious error Heyworth made and his statement about WWII is wholly unsupported. You can't defend a given position with FALSE statements. Your refusal to acknowledge this simple fact is pathetic
@sultanknish - Excuse me, I never made a statement, broad or otherwise. My comment was attributed it to your obvious PoV, that the President can do as he pleases in regard to his war powers. It's clear is that you equate ANY use of miltary force under any circumstance as a declaration of War. That's simply untrue. But as with everything else, I'm sure you'll attempt to revise these remarks instead of simply admitting your error. Keep dancing, it's amusing if nothing else.
@broadjumper1 You still keep confusing your view with reality.
It's not my POV that the President can do as he likes. I'm talking about the fact that Presidents have repeatedly engaged in extended military conflicts without congressional approval.
You can try to deny that reality, a reality which caused the War Powers Act of 1973 to come into being, but that just means you choose to remain ignorant, and further discussion is pointless.
@sultanknish - I'm not confusing a thing. But you're right, further discussion is pointless until you're able to admit that Heyworth was clearly wrong and that all you're doing is distorting reality with YOUR view. But then it's apparent that any effort at respectful discussion with one as ignorant and arrogant as you is futile...
@sultanknish - Of course a President can take actions in defense of our Nation, but that's NOT the same as committing our military and our national resources to a lengthy and protracted war. The President can only do that with the consent of congress despite his authority to commit troops to actions in more limited deployments.
@sultanknish You are a fool...what's more, you are as stupid as Hayworth is. He is a typical representative of the lunatic fringe in our country; the dumbass teabagging nation, the uneducated, misinformed who know nothing about our history except what they might have heard somewhere (Fox is a good outlet for warped history lessons)... This man is incompetent and shouldn't run for dog-catcher.
@172677 Hey, Hayworth is a Congressman. You are what? To say a US Congressman is stupid or a lunatic is insulting the thousand of constituents from his state. Before you insult US congressmen, pls do some real research and check the facts. History is about legal documents, congress archives, laws, factual dates and personal quotes. It is not public or personal opinion such as yours. A US Congressman certainly would have access to these documents more than any Tom-Dick-or Harry.
The US Senate and House voted to declare war against Japan, Germany, and Italy on Dec 11, 1941. That much is a fact. What Hayworth was thinking, apparently, is all of the three have been referred to as the "Axis Powers", and a declaration of war against one would in effect constitute a declaration against all. Not a very good argument.
Remember what this moron is trying to say. He is trying to justify our undeclared wars in Iraq and Afghanistan by making up the lie that we never declared war against Germany in WWII.
I don't get it? It was Hitler that declared war on USA... maybe I'm seeing something wrong in this video.

The state of war is not automatic based on beginning of hostilities. If it were every war we were in would be considered a "war" including the current ones, which are not legally declared wars.
ACRScout57 1 year ago
@ACRScout57
Okay, you just repeated my point.
The declaration of war on December 6th, 1941 was a formality.
As FDR proclaimed: "...as of 7am on December the seventh a state of war has existed..."etc.
A state of war is a state of war, weather or not the involved parties declare it to be so.
Bullettube 1 year ago
@Bullettube
So by your logic every conflict including Vietnam, Korea, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Bosnia have been actual wars, not illegal military actions as the left claims.
ACRScout57 1 year ago
It is true Germany did declare war on the U.S.A. first. Watch the history channel for 5 minutes and you would know this. Germany and Italy declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941 in compliance with their agreement with Japan to do so; and the US responded by declaring war on both Italy and Germany.

@RippieMcFart Don't take just my word for it; there are plenty of sources of info out there on it - just as a random one, go to Wikipedia and look-up "List of recessions in the United States" and scroll down the 3 periods mentioned, read each of the 3 entries, and feel free to follow-up with the sources cited; less than 10 minutes of web searching can find plenty of info on it

wolverine11117 1 year ago

Typical anti-education rightist has no education and therefore has no idea what Marxism is and applies the term to anyone who is not a sucker for the supply side failure of the cancer known as Ronald Reagan.
jonnerbuns26 1 year ago
@jonnerbuns26 More accusations without support. It is you and all Government Worshipers that do not understand economics. "Applying stimulus" means you have to Take it from the Free market. Taxing corporations means taking from all rich to poor. You then have to pay bureaucrats to push paper and inherent gov. corruption and finally put back some small amount of money to the economy. They brainwash the weak minded like you with Keynesian economics. Reagan set up 25 years of economic growth.
RippieMcFart 1 year ago
Really, then why did we have a recession with Bush in office directly after Reagan? FACT: Taxes were higher on the rich and poor when Reagan was president. Look it up.
rmcd 1 year ago
@rmcd The internet bubble burst less than one year before Bush took office, then oil prices went from historic lows (Luck for Clinton) to historic highs (thanks to Leftists that won't let us drill). Can all of you Government boot lickers really be that dishonest? It's hard to believe. Reagan cut corp. taxes (that's CORP not COR, Barak) from 48% to 34%, which is a regressive tax. Reagan reduced the top tax bracket from 70% to 28% so you could not be a bigger lier.
RippieMcFart 1 year ago
@RippieMcFart 25 years of economic growth? Which 25 years were those, as there was a bad recession in the early 80s on his watch (the worst until the current one), another one in the early 90s that helped remove his former VP from the Presidency (Clinton's campaign mantra was "It's the economy, Stupid!"), and the one in the early 2000s that resulted in a "jobless recovery" (which means it isn't really a recovery) under W; so again, which 25 years do you mean?
Starmiter1 1 year ago
@Starmiter1 Obviously the first years of Reagan were recovering from Carter. "jobless recovery"? Unemployment averaged around 5 percent under George W. What planet are you living on/ Moreover, if you consider campaign slogans to be economic evidence, you are totally hopeless.

Germany declared war on US FIRST, this is true. but then US responded with declaration of war too. even though was supporting the allies, US didn't declare war on Germany until after pearl harbor attack and subsequent German declaration of war on US. Don't revise history.
By the way, World War II started in 1939 NOT 1941.
undocumentedspot 1 year ago
@undocumentedspot And we were involved in World War II well before 1941 and the official declaration of war
which is my point
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish Our involvement was helping keep the Atlantic shipping lanes safe and transporting goods to Britain and Europe. We did nothing while Hitler was marching through Europe and practicing genocide...until Pearl Harbor when Germany declared war on us - and Congress declared war against them, Dec. 11, 1941. Until then, we were not involved in combat operations with troops.
172677 1 year ago
@sultanknish see AccordGTR response to me, not sure why it was for me. both of your statements don't contradict what i said. Germany declared war on US first. US was involved by supplying not by military.
undocumentedspot 1 year ago
@undocumentedspot The US was involved in naval battles with Germany before the declaration.
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish No they weren't, you nitwit. The only conflict between US and Germany prior to declaration of war was at sea.... U.S. was sending goods to Britain who was being bombed to hell. As Allies, the U.S. (and other allies, BTW) provided escort and safety to British ships... U.S. ships also protected from Uboats who were blowing up military and civilian vessels. That's not war, fool.
172677 1 year ago
@172677 Yes they were. The US was involved in naval battles with German vessels. And US forces had a base in Iceland.
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish No, they weren't. Any actions were purely defensive to protect our ships transporting goods to Britain and to protect British ships at sea...and the base at Keflavik was established first by Britain in 1940 to protect shipping lanes. The U.S. didn't establish their base until 1941 - AFTER war was declared. You know, all this info is readily available on the internet. I suggest you do a little reading.
172677 1 year ago
@sultanknish that's because Germany attacked US naval vessels protecting aid to Britain. officially though, US and Germany were not at war, until Germany declared war on the United States as result of Tripartite Pact . broadjumper1 1 year ago
AccordGTR 1 year ago
@undocumentedspot The point again is that we were involved in WW2 before an official declaration of war
sultanknish 1 year ago
@undocumentedspot Actually, since America was not formally at war till 1941, WW2 technically didn't start till then.

@rmcd Yes that is true. Some Americans were fighting for England and US colonies before 1941 but the general public wanted to stay neutral so Roosevelt could not declare war on Germany and Japan until they did.

On December 11th 1941, the US Senate voted 88-0 and House voted 393-0 to FORMALLY declared war against Germany AND Italy (Italy 399-0 & 90-0). What 'research' do you or Hayworth have that refutes these FACTS?
Why is it that people who are wrong can't simply admit their error without engaging in revisionism?
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Germany had a pact with Japan and Italy. By declaring war on Japan, the US had already indirectly declared war on Germany. The US Declaration of War was in response to the German declaration of war.
That's not even considering Roosevelt's Navy Day address well before Pearl Harbor which basically was a war speech.

First off, that's NOT legal in our government and it doesn't support Hayworth's contention that we "FORMALLY DECLARED WAR on Germany." Dude, just admit you're wrong.
broadjumper1 1 year ago 2
@broadjumper1 - check that, it's "NEVER FORMALLY DECLARED WAR on Germany."
broadjumper1 1 year ago

Pearl Harbor , Vietnam , 9/11 have been orchestrated to push the U.S people to go to war
sattanhellsing 1 year ago
@sattanhellsing
DorianGrayism 1 year ago
@DorianGrayism Don't forget Spain, France, Dutch, German and British empires came first, conquering America, Africa, Asia. Americans fought British then became an empire, taking the Philippines in 1896 from Spain as well as other colonies, like Guam, etc. Then Japan said, "Ok, if its ok for the West to invade and conquer other lands, we will do the same." It took Korea (1905) and later China. But the West said, "Well, wait a minute, you can't do that! That's wrong!" So Japan fought back.
AccordGTR 1 year ago
@sattanhellsing So, FDR called Emperor Hirohito and said "OK, you can attack Pearl Harbor now". Japan had been preparing for war and invasion of the South Pacific and other regions for more than 20 years. This "well kept" secret was widely known and several countries had been negotiating with Japan to avoid the conflict. What you know about that history is pitiful.....

Once again, WHY can't simply admit their error without engaging in revisionism?
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 The point is that FDR was talking as if he were at war and the US was engaged in naval hostilities with Germany before the declaration of war
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish - This is what upsets people, your LAST statement has nothing to do with your first. What a President says publicallly and what he's authorized to do by Congress aren't generally the same thing. And for your information, hostilities have occured between nations throughout history wihout a defacto 'state of war' preexisting. Once again, you're nothig more than a revisionist who refuses to simply admit he's WRONG.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Again you're confusing theory with reality.
A President can take unauthorized actions, he just isn't supposed to go that route. Obviously hostilities occur between nations without a declaration of war. That is the entire point, as this entire argument goes to that question.
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish - and you're simply equivocating. Nothing you've said has a damned thing to do with what Heyworth said, try listening to it again....if you want to say that the President NOW has broader war powers than Roosevelt had in the 40's, then simply say that. But this still doesn't address the obvious error Heyworth made and his statement about WWII is wholly unsupported. You can't defend a given position with FALSE statements. Your refusal to acknowledge this simple fact is pathetic
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 Legally Presidents after the War Powers Act have narrower war powers. In practice however very little has changed.
This is the kind of thing you should really research before you make such broad statements.
sultanknish 1 year ago
@sultanknish - Excuse me, I never made a statement, broad or otherwise. My comment was attributed it to your obvious PoV, that the President can do as he pleases in regard to his war powers. It's clear is that you equate ANY use of miltary force under any circumstance as a declaration of War. That's simply untrue. But as with everything else, I'm sure you'll attempt to revise these remarks instead of simply admitting your error. Keep dancing, it's amusing if nothing else.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 You still keep confusing your view with reality.
It's not my POV that the President can do as he likes. I'm talking about the fact that Presidents have repeatedly engaged in extended military conflicts without congressional approval.
You can try to deny that reality, a reality which caused the War Powers Act of 1973 to come into being, but that just means you choose to remain ignorant, and further discussion is pointless.
sultanknish 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@sultanknish - I'm not confusing a thing. But you're right, further discussion is pointless until you're able to admit that Heyworth was clearly wrong and that all you're doing is distorting reality with YOUR view. But then it's apparent that any effort at respectful discussion with one as ignorant and arrogant as you is futile...
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@sultanknish - Of course a President can take actions in defense of our Nation, but that's NOT the same as committing our military and our national resources to a lengthy and protracted war. The President can only do that with the consent of congress despite his authority to commit troops to actions in more limited deployments.
broadjumper1 1 year ago
@broadjumper1 The President can do it. It's arguably however Unconstitutional. And that's without even getting into the whole War Powers debate.
Plenty of Presidents however have done it.

The US Senate and House voted to declare war against Japan, Germany, and Italy on Dec 11, 1941. That much is a fact.
