@Idoloish It not that American car companies can’t make good cars they choose not to in order to cut costs just so that you guys can afford to buy it because no-one else in world is really buying them they need your purchase to survive. You see when a car company is not advancing technology within their own product it helps keep costs low and at the same time keeps that car company down this is why American cars is backwards on the world stage right now ! but saying that I only use my lawn mower for straight line drag races when I’m cutting my grass! The corvette z06 is a much better car than this and even that has dodgy build quality.
I love how people are constantly bashing American sports cars and saying how the European ones are better. The European ones cost 4-7 times more then the Viper, our cars can easily handle corners because we bother to steer unlike you Europeans who expect the vehicle to do the turning for you. I bet you don't even own a sports car probably some junker throw away Fiat or Renault.

You guys need to understand that Jeremy likes American cars for the same reason he seem to criticism them. It's because they are so crude and difficult that he has so much fun in them.
And the Dodge Viper, with the right suspension modification and tuning, is just as good at corners as European cars. The Dodge Viper ACR got 7:22.1 on the Nurburgring, which is right up there with the Ferraris and Porsches.
@Misha607552 there making it look bad you moron. the car is a beast your just to dumb to realize itz all on purpose. fucking moron take your retarded ass somewere else
I can imagine, too bad that Bugatti never lets Top Gear really test the Veyron or effectually silences them. I would't be surprised of the handling were inferior to other cars.
Still, i get the creeps when i read and hear that a car like the Mustang GT has 500 hp and a suspension from the 60s. Anyways, it's always also a question of taste.
With all due respect (and I love the looks and brute strength this car's got): yes, this car may go fast in a straight line. So if you consider a "street race" to be a drag race and nothing else, a Viper will certainly do the job. But once you get to a corner, you're in trouble - bad suspension, TOO much torque etc.
Btw, you say a turbo Viper chucks out 714 hp. Well, a Koenigsegg chucks out 800 with a 4.7 liter engine. So yes, I'd say Dodge could get far more out of their motors.
@monty321989 the Viper is actually a very nice car in corners. The ACR is even better. The idea that American cars cannot corner is entirely misplaced. I worked at an exotic race track where i have seen Ford Gts, Vipers, Zr1s, Lambos, Supras, even Bugattis race. Funny thing is the Bugatti handled more like a school bus then the others.
Jeremy's critique of American cars ignores the fact that most American cars are designed for a different purpose and environment than Euro cars. Our roads are generally in much poorer condition, so they often are sprung softly. Also, many Amis prefer torquey engines to 4-pots that have to be wrung out to produce power. As Clarkson put it, a Euro engineer might be able to get more than 500hp out of 8.3L, but only make about 300 torques. the Viper cranks out over 500 of both.
This is the old car. And despite it being kinda...well...unrefined, look at Clarkson's face. There's a smile on it. And that's what cars are all about.
Horsepower, horsepower, horsepower.. What most of you guys don't take into consideration is TORQUE. torque gets you off the line and that 8.3 viper v10 has loads more torque than just about any car. Another fact for you is that dodge is known to underrate their engine horsepower. I have no clue why but just look it up. All In all I have seen vipers with twin turbos zero-60 2.2 seconds and with 1409hp that SMOKE bugattis. So at that point a lambo is nothing. Vipers are just raw.
@sykanax +1 what can u do with 1400 bhp if the car wont turn??? it wont turn with 500 let alone the rest... sport cars are made to go fast in the track not in straight line so u can show off... thats why ferraris cost more if u wonder.
Ferrari performance has nothing to do with their cost. Even with the cost, they still can't out run the Viper on a track. Even the non street legal Viper Competition Coupe was cheaper than the F430.
@sykanax lol dude chill the Viper is all appeal. Its American, for driving along the busy beaches in Florida and California. Its all about North American culture, its a muscle car, its about being badass. Most men buy a Corvette/Viper/Shelby/Camaro when they're 45+ or retired. Its a celebration of the kind of car we all wanted when we were kids. Cars like this scratch an itch that a Ferrari/Porsche/Aston cant scratch. We don't find those cars as appealing. Vipers are fucking HUGE in Germany too.
What did you expect from the safety stickers, in a country where any person could sue anybody for nearly anything. Da fuck you expect. But still, DODGE RULES!
your comparing a few hundred thousand dollar car to a viper. well i have yet to see a ferrari 458 Italia make 2000 hp. hennessey viper twin turbo does and cost less with the kit and the car which is round about 180k. 40k less than the ferrari. And do not get me wrong i think ferrari's are beautiful cars id pick one over a viper a day, but cause the motor comes out of the factory with 500bhp doesnt mean thats all it can make
@zeyeerboost you have a bad taste at cars if you think the viper is an awful car,you think honda civic ricers are hot?or you probably a toyota supra fanboy :/
@zeyeerboost your quite right lol...its a shame it has a big engine and can only give little horses....but hey try searching "Henessey Twin Turbo Dodge Viper" that will smoke your Murcielago LP670-4 and its cheaper too :D
Lets leave the europeans out of it.Nissan GTR, 3.8l 480bhp,and a bit faster than the viper, and it sticks to the ground. And same price,or even cheaper.
Outside the US there are taxes depending on engine sizes, and believe me,even if the viper is cheaper than a 458 when bought, its simply not interesting, too large and exotic tyres drinks too much
America needs to forget about 'there's no substitute for cubic inches'. Because getting 500hp out of 8.3 litres is a 'little' ineffecient use of your engine in my eyes. A Gallardo uses 5.2l and gets 560 hp, and our RS5 get's 450 out of almost HALF the engine used in the Viper.
The 500BHP is smooth and even, unlike small European motors that need radical cams, turbos or superchargers that give you "peaky" power curves. This V10 could do double duty as a marine motor....applying 90% power day in and day out..........European motors cannot do this......they would suffer from overheating(Red hot turbos) and insufficient torque from low RPMs'.........This V10 will outlast any 'Across the pond' motor.........stick-em in a boat & you'll see!
horse power sells cars, but torque wins races. Thats where the 8.3 (not 8.4 liter and 600 hp and 560 ft lb ot torque btw) Comes in to play. No replacement for displacement. Something the Europeans will never understand.
@mezzadakiller what the hell do you think pulls you out of the corner, Farts from magic rainbows??!!! Torque is what pulls you through corners. God people need to learn before they post.
I'd love to drive the Viper or Corvette here in Europe, I don't care Americans make less hp from cubic inches, it's still awesome. But the fuel prices are insane here, you can't drive this car :(
@Errorbgkn1 the ZR1 produces 640 bhp from a 6.4L V8. and costs less than the spec-v, which is what you're talking about because the stock gt-r only produces approximately 450bhp.
@Errorbgkn1 that's definately not true, the gt-r produces 485 bhp and outputs 434 foot pounds of torque. check your research engines since they're obviously wrong.
@abdulios They are advertised as 485 bhp, but each of them are hand built therefore each engine is different. It is proven it ranges from 500~ 520 bhp.
@brianrulesman Yes i know they are hand built but that does not mean that the horsepower increases, it just means that it is not too accurate therefore it will vary at around 485.
I find it kind of funny how this car goes about the same speed as a Corette, yet it is so uncommon. I live in South Carolina, and I see Vipers occasionally, but I see Corvettes all the time. I guess the Viper just costs a lot more.
I hate this guy!! He's a douche bag!! How does the exhaust 'set fire to everything?', I haven't heard of that exhaust doing that at all. Why would you take that car around the track in the rain anyway? I'm truly surprised that he didn't compare it to the BMW M5...he does that with just about every car made!!
@ferrisv20 Not at all the media of america makes us out to be dumb slob but like all countries there are decent unheard of people. Just like the media ake all muslim seem bad but in fact most are good
@ferrisv20 Well, our leader sure is stupid right now. Good thing we have the most powerful military in the world. And you can't really argue that Britain has the SAS, because that is a task force. America has an entire special military that is separate, the Marines.
you don't really know what basis a sports car is built on do you.. srt in the name stands for street and racing technology... this is a street racer and that's why is has the torque.. horsepower gives speed.. torque wins races.. and also what evo isn't turbocharged? look up the turbo viper is takes out roughly 714 horsepower.. and you cNt compare a evo 2 a viper one is a 4 door heavy rally car and the other is a race car it's like comparing a 911 to a Honda civic it's in a totally di
@fetusman1 why would you need to put a turbo in a car that lays out 500hp naturally asperated? because its more reliable! look up relaibailty between the viper and the evo. i dont give a damn that an evo is turbo charged. its 4wheel drive born into the world of rallying. no shit it would do 0-60 in 4 seconds or less. the dodge is a classic front engine, rear wheel drive car. viper gets better mpg also because theres no forced induction. get your shit straight!
So tired of "American cars suck." They clearly weren't trying to be better than anything, they just wanted to put a big engine in a small car. And they did it. Complain some more it isn't perfect, dodge doesn't give a shit, and neither do we.
The rest of the world can have their "perfect" cars. I'd rather mine be fun than perfect.
@hondahp18 My point is that noone gives a shit if you like the Viper, so shut up and go post on a Honda video, or go back to your bedroom in the basement of your mommy's house and masturbate over a civic. loser. Or maybe your a Toyota fanboy? God knows they are more reliable than American cars right, I say they're qualtiy control is top notch lol. That was sarcasm in case your pea brain didnt understand.
@Idoloish this car is STUPID, 8.3 liter-500 hp =)) c'mon man, even romanians can do better, germans do 1200 hp from 8 liter(bugatti), and 500 hp with 5 liter and no turbo or supercharger(bmw m5,m6)
@7h0p0r For the record, the viper has no turbo or supercharger. It gets all the power from all 10 cylinders. If dodge would've added a turbo, twin turbo, or a supercharger, they could have pushed out 700hp, or maybe more. But the new ones are made with 600hp from an 8.4L V10. IT'S STILL A LOT WEATHER IT'S 500, 600, OR 700HP.
@7h0p0r you compared a bugatti to a car that cost under 100k. you sir, fail. and while the m5 and m6 definitely do make more power per liter than the viper the viper is still a vastly more superior car performance wise.
the new acr went faster around the crappy american top gear track faster than 3 new lambos, two being gallardos. cars costing three times as much. you can talk shit on american engineering but it works and infinitely more affordable than european super cars.
@Idoloish agreed, and very well put: european and japanese "engines" do indeed require abusive rpms to access their typically pathetic and occasionally adequate HP. meanwhile, their "sophisticated" asses will continue to be handed to them by simple, durable torque. if they're not broken down (yet) they will be losing off the line, as usual.
@mezzadakiller yeah, great point, except for the fact that the Viper ACR and Corvette ZR1 were the number 1 and 2 production cars on the Nurburgring--the globally accepted standard for all-round track performance--for quite some time (and might still be, as far as i know; haven't checked for awhile, but regardless your "point" is clearly nonexistent.)
Right and that wasn't to insult European engines. They do get results, they just use a different means. I'm sure if you gave an American engineer a quota of 500 hp but only gave him 5 liters to work with, he'd have a hard time doing it. In the same sense, if you gave a European engineer only two valves per cylinder, only 5,000 RPMs to work with (and something called a budget) and a quota of 500 hp, he'd have a hard time doing it too.
@Idoloish well there is another thing u r missing on, what I personally do not understand about American auto industry is that when u get nto Dodge Viper and than into a Dodge Neon its the SAME I mean WTF????
Koenigsegg gets 1300-1500 hp out of their 4.7 litre. And yes its reliable.
Bugatti has taken 3000 hp out of their 8 litre Veyron engine in testing. Obviously there is no call to put that much hp into a car so they dont. But Renault built a 1.3 litre with 1300 hp. F1 and high tech supercars could never have come out of america no more than low budget straight line plastic monstrosities could ever come out of Europe. (except TVR but it was run to the ground by a Russian billionaire kid)
"Koenigsegg gets 1300-1500 hp out of their 4.7 litre. And yes its reliable."
Fail. The Koenigsegg is just over a million dollars and revs to 7000 RPMs or more. Not to mention, it's forced induction.
"Bugatti has taken 3000 hp out of their 8 litre Veyron engine in testing."
Fail. The Veyron revs to 6000 RPMs or more and costs almost 2 million dollars. And again, it's forced induction (with 16 pistons). Not to mention a serious lack of creativity on behalf of you Eurabians.
th exhaust setting fire to everything....that could become boring

Btw, you say a turbo Viper chucks out 714 hp. Well, a Koenigsegg chucks out 800 with a 4.7 liter engine. So yes, I'd say Dodge could get far more out of their motors.
monty321989 1 year ago
@monty321989 the Viper is actually a very nice car in corners. The ACR is even better. The idea that American cars cannot corner is entirely misplaced. I worked at an exotic race track where i have seen Ford Gts, Vipers, Zr1s, Lambos, Supras, even Bugattis race. Funny thing is the Bugatti handled more like a school bus then the others.
MadMilitiaMen 1 year ago
Jeremy's critique of American cars ignores the fact that most American cars are designed for a different purpose and environment than Euro cars. Our roads are generally in much poorer condition, so they often are sprung softly. Also, many Amis prefer torquey engines to 4-pots that have to be wrung out to produce power. As Clarkson put it, a Euro engineer might be able to get more than 500hp out of 8.3L, but only make about 300 torques. the Viper cranks out over 500 of both.

DVaderlar 1 year ago
Ferrari performance has nothing to do with their cost. Even with the cost, they still can't out run the Viper on a track. Even the non street legal Viper Competition Coupe was cheaper than the F430.
KARASAWA40 1 year ago
@sykanax lol dude chill the Viper is all appeal. Its American, for driving along the busy beaches in Florida and California. Its all about North American culture, its a muscle car, its about being badass. Most men buy a Corvette/Viper/Shelby/Camaro when they're 45+ or retired. Its a celebration of the kind of car we all wanted when we were kids. Cars like this scratch an itch that a Ferrari/Porsche/Aston cant scratch. We don't find those cars as appealing. Vipers are fucking HUGE in Germany too.

joey1364 1 year ago
America needs to forget about 'there's no substitute for cubic inches'. Because getting 500hp out of 8.3 litres is a 'little' ineffecient use of your engine in my eyes. A Gallardo uses 5.2l and gets 560 hp, and our RS5 get's 450 out of almost HALF the engine used in the Viper.
Thoisss 1 year ago
@Thoisss They call it "Theres no replacement for displacement".
ThisVidSuxAss 1 year ago
The 500BHP is smooth and even, unlike small European motors that need radical cams, turbos or superchargers that give you "peaky" power curves. This V10 could do double duty as a marine motor....applying 90% power day in and day out..........European motors cannot do this......they would suffer from overheating(Red hot turbos) and insufficient torque from low RPMs'.........This V10 will outlast any 'Across the pond' motor.........stick-em in a boat & you'll see!

@Idoloish this car is STUPID, 8.3 liter-500 hp =)) c'mon man, even romanians can do better, germans do 1200 hp from 8 liter(bugatti), and 500 hp with 5 liter and no turbo or supercharger(bmw m5,m6)
7h0p0r 1 year ago
@7h0p0r For the record, the viper has no turbo or supercharger. It gets all the power from all 10 cylinders. If dodge would've added a turbo, twin turbo, or a supercharger, they could have pushed out 700hp, or maybe more. But the new ones are made with 600hp from an 8.4L V10. IT'S STILL A LOT WEATHER IT'S 500, 600, OR 700HP.
MetallicWarrior55 1 year ago
@7h0p0r you compared a bugatti to a car that cost under 100k. you sir, fail. and while the m5 and m6 definitely do make more power per liter than the viper the viper is still a vastly more superior car performance wise.
the new acr went faster around the crappy american top gear track faster than 3 new lambos, two being gallardos. cars costing three times as much. you can talk shit on american engineering but it works and infinitely more affordable than european super cars.
AlexanderBlueAvenue 1 year ago

MaximusRelaximus 1 year ago
@MaximusRelaximus

Bugatti has taken 3000 hp out of their 8 litre Veyron engine in testing. Obviously there is no call to put that much hp into a car so they dont. But Renault built a 1.3 litre with 1300 hp.
