This song was played for me over the ships radio in1971 whilst on a Far East Tour with 848 NAS as a request from my then girlfriend. We've been married for 39 years and still love JT's music.
Every time I hear this song I get tears in my eyes. So beautiful are the texte and music! I am glad that there are people who can write and sing this beautiful music.

It is ironic that such a prolific and successful songwriter as Taylor would make #1 with someone else's song, but that's just how it turned out.
@retafmil Hitting #1 isn't the point with JT. Its his honesty, his grace and his purity that makes his music timeless. It does not matter who wrote the song (although Ms. King is a stunning songwriter), James would still be singing even if he never had a hit song. Every time he opens his mouth, tears come from my eyes. I have no control over it

Timeless masterpieces. We're talking more than 2 decades and his talent remains strong. Songwriters like Carole King need to come back... there's too much talentless garbage on the radio nowadays.

This song has been my companion for almost 40 y now.
Since the very first moment I knew my wife this was the fav song I used to sing for her !
When I left home or the Gulf, I used to sing it accross the wire when I called my other half ... every evening.
I keep on singing it and hope they will play it for me when I will leave this world for good !
