Ham was also in an episode of legendary MTM show.. Mary Richards was interviewing him as an author; when show ended they started talking, she liked him. He asked her to dinner, she accepted. All this while sitting down. When Ham got up he was many inches shorter than Mary. Funny and thought provoking.
no -- Lancaster , Ca is 60 miles from downtown L.A. You should get it by Lancaster . Ca Radi KFMX . The DJ/owner is only on 7am -- 9:oo am mon--fri + sat morning . The phone number is : 1-661-726-5959 -- 1st number I gave you was incorrect . Good luck
Ray -- a heads up for you . Radio station KFMX Lancaster Ca plays your Dad's great song just about 1-2 times everyday .They're on the net (free) . The key DJ is in studio m-f 799am Calif time . You might call him -- he'll play it right away ..1667265959 and you'll love his other tunes too . NO common crap
@oaklandborn Thanks for the heads up on this! I searched Google with those call letters and it comes up with a station in Texas? I s this the right one?
My story is much the same as Mr. Ronnies's. I joined the Army at 17 after High School, was engaged at graduation, then sent to Thailand for 2 years. Engagement lost. I can't tell you how many times I've sung this song to myself over the years, even though it was 30 plus years since I had heard the actual recording. I just turned 60, it still tops my list of all time great songs.
Am watching HC on the Andy Griffith show now and had to Google him because I love his voice! This is so exciting! I have always so enjoyed his acting - had no idea of his incredible musical accomplishments! Heading to itlunes shortly!
I had this single when I was in high school. It was one of my favorite songs then and still is now, and I remember watching Hamilton Camp on "He and She"-- he was great. Thanks so much for this video. I wish people still wrote lyrics like this. The Four Freshman did a version of this song as well, I found a copy on a website a few years ago-- never heard it before.
I remember when this song showed up on pop radio and I was floored...I never could find out who it was until the internet arrived...imagine all those years...but I listen to it now all the time and I say RIP Hamilton...
I still remember giving the 45 RPM single to the love of my life (Kathy) during the summer of 1968. The label was green and the lyrics said it better than I ever could. That she's gone, and has been, for many many years matters not ~ I am still, to this day, so thankful for what we had and how much in love I felt.
@MrRonnieG Hamilton Camp - there's a blast from my past; I thought this was a Willie version - will have to see what other HC videos are posted
Love doesn't bring you anything if you don't stick with it. That's why I took to the road as a snowbird. Still looking for those I lost and have been lucky enough to find some of them.
This actually got top 40 airplay on the RKO Drake consulted stations It was one of the project songs that was hitbound on KHJ,KFRC,CKLW,WRKO,WHBQ,and on WHBQ...
This is the most played song in my collection,According to itunes within a few weeks somehow out of my 4000 songs this one went to the top quick, Thanks Ray this song means a lot to me, made my dad tear when he saw this version I'm only 22
my friend archaic stole this album from me 40 years ago and we're still buds. saw hc at mc cabes just before tim hardin died (and jon lennon) with bob gibson. fine song thanx for posting
One of my alltime fave songs. One of the first pop songs I memorized all the words to and never forgot. Was Hamilton in "Eating Raoul"? What a great talent.
I do not have a copy of that but really wish i did. I remember when my dad (Hamilton) did that game an brought a copy home. I played it over and over.
This is one of my favorite songs from the 60's. The original was a radio hit and moved much faster than this version. Man, this song has been with me for so long, thanks for this.
This song is on a compilation cd. I own it, but don't remenber exactly what it's called. If you search, I believe you can find it. Nice live version here though.
I have been trying to find this one for a few years. It is one of my favorites. I believe Hamilton also did some acting. Love this song. Wish it was on a cd.
This song is such a gem , I had to return for 4-5 more plays of it . Loved him on M.A.S.H. too , and the "Pride of Man" by Quicksilver Messenger Service . thanks again
I too have searched for this Camp recording for years. Back in 1968, while dating a 20 year old lady (Kathy) this record came out, I remember having the 45RPM recording, it seems the label was a dark green? I gave this song to her as representative of my love for her. I was 21 at the time and in February 1969 was drafted into the Army and ordered to that gastly Vietnam. She wanted to marry prior but I thought not. In the end, she could not wait and my love story died in the jungles of Nam.
Heard this song a total of one time on a date in 1969. Never knew who the singer was or the name of the song for the next 35 years. Never forgot the melody. Then found that the singer was someone who I already knew but didn't really know...from the Andy Griffith Show. Funny how things come full circle.
I remember hearing this song on the radio and singing along on my way to college in the late 60's. The difference is it has stayed with me to this day whenever I tire of AM/FM/CD or MP3.
To me it is one of the most romantic heartfelt songs I have ever heard.
I could be wrong but I think he may have sung this on the Smothers Bros. or
Glen Cambell show.
This is a great variation from the version that had airplay in LA and hopefully everywhere else.
My God! where is this from? For a collector of all of Camp's vinyl, from "Paths of Victory" through the Skymonters, and the wonderful stuff he did with Gibson, this is a revelation!
Several years back, right around the time of "Mardi's Bard," there was an entire Camp concert, performed with a small group, available on-line in streaming video. Does anyone know whatever became of that?
I also am a HUGE fan of this song, it was one of my "Holy Grail" tunes that I heard in the late 60s as a boy and never knew the title or artist. Then I heard it played on a station in 1984 and found that it was by Hamilton Camp. I went out and found a copy immediately! The only source on CD I know is on "Buried Treasure: Lost Gems from Deep in the '60s Vaults" by Collectors Choice.
Yes he definitely was one who did not stay in the main stream or go with the flow when it came to his music. His own musical tastes were so eclectic that it flowed into his writing and playing.
Thanks for the great words and for being a true fan!
Was a teen when this hit the airwaves in the 60s, spent the next 40 years seeking it in any form. I have the LP stored in case the spirit moves me to buy a turntable. And have a download on my computer.
I searched for this on youtube since I joined a couple of years ago and finally yesterday it paid off.
My impression of your dad is that he was a renaissance man....meaning someone who would try things that would intimidate lesser souls.
I am speechless. I never thought I would see Camp perform this in my lifetime...never knew a recording existed. You have made my day... my week...you've made my year.
Ham was also in an episode of legendary MTM show.. Mary Richards was interviewing him as an author; when show ended they started talking, she liked him. He asked her to dinner, she accepted.
