  • I like the look of it do more stuff. I used a adapter, it looked like crap. I'm trying a filter next time

  • The music was excellent. The film was dismal. It's a film about a man who has absolutely nothing to do with his life. No one wants to see that. I kept watching for the music. Who wrote the score?

  • the music reminds me something... i dont know what is it. But is good and rare same time...

  • way boring

  • most of the dvx footage I see looks way to dreamy

Video is still lagging a great deal compared to film.

  • I agree. Digital video and photo lack in comparison to film. Film is so much more organic and subtle. Unfortunately it's also expensive and a pain to deal with.

  • The vid is a little weird though....

  • I don't know why, but I find the close up of him eating the banana repulsive...

....no offense to the rest of the vid though.

    The rest is awesome.

  • haha!

  • WTF?

  • well done dude ! i'm french and i know short film because i worked during 1 month in the "french entreprise of short film" so i can tell you that your short film is really good ! The history is simple but plans with camera and music are very good!

    continue !

    alex

  • Thank you for compliments!

  • What is the point of this video???

  • no point. just a boring day with my camera made to look like a movie to trixies everyone.

  • ........

  • LOTR Rulz =D

  • Wow, looks really nice. You utilized the DVX-100A really well.

Check my film HEAD FIRST out. Also shot on the DVX-100a

  • drugs

  • secrets must remain secret

  • Dude, i'm completely diggin the absolute wierdness of this video...If I missed the main point or whatever i'm sorry. But on another note, comming from an aspiring film maker, use a tripod. Cause the shaky camera hands weren't cuttin' it for me. But other than that I though it was well shot, and well edited. Though you broke the 180 rule once.

  • Thanks. Yea I wish it was shot on a tripod too but absolutely nothing was preplanned. The entire thing was made up on the fly. I wanted to move things quickly to keep the momentum and to keep my friend from being completely bored. Set up time would've prevented that.

  • Cool. So, no filters, or any post color correction was used in generating those images? And you used just the panasonic dvx to do it? Leak me your secret.

  • If I remember correctly I believe I might have used a "film look" filter before the "white diffusion" filter from Magic Bullet. And yes all shot on the DVX100a. Thanks.

  • excellent.... Looks fantastic.

  • the hell kind of story was that?

  • read the description

  • Weel done. Nice video.

  • this is amazingly amazing !! aklsjdlaksd woah! I need a camrea like yours.now lol GREAT JOB! Did you use any special filters or anything with it? Or did u just use the camera with out anything?

  • I used a diffusion filter in post with the Magic Bullet Editors program. Thanks

  • Hey man was wondering, when you have to compress the video to put it on youtube. What do you use to do that, and how do you do it?

  • I export through Adobe Media Encoder within Premiere. The encoder came with Premiere when I bought it. Other than that, I exported a few times tweaking the settings to achieve optimum quality. I'm not that tech savvy, it's trial and error.

  • yeah ok cool can you do a quick rundown, where to go, and what settings to use

  • hey man i also just put up a new Teaser for INTRUDER would love for you to see it! Its on my page. i have completed that short, just working on post production

  • yeah actually we have a website set up and built already, it should be out soon. you def should do that. Great way to promote yourself. So did you like intruder...what did you think overall??

  • Love the video, hey can you check my vids i have two of them shot with my dvx100a, you can look under my name, they are trailers would love some feedback from you man!

  • PLEASE!! ^^^

  • wow. i hold you in high respect. very very very very nice. amazing. you have inspired me. you werent kidding when you said cinematic looked achieved. bravo. It would mean a lot if you could comment on my silly movie that me and my friends made. it was improvised. but some of the outside shots arent bad. and its kind of funny. it would mean a lot. >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyU9sq1Tp0E

  • the DVX100 is an awesome camera

  • Awesome cinematic! Nice camera angles too :)

  • I really liked the shots, they were beautiful. Eventhough there wasn't a story, it was pleasing to watch. The cuts were good and the composition was excellent. You've got a nice touch to filmmaking. Keep up the great work man!

    -Topher

  • wow that was nice

  • omg!!! i loved this film so much!! i love the way the film looks so pro i walked in wen my friend was watching this and i didnt notice the title i thought it was a trailer for a film! its really clever.. i mean with this work even though you was filmin on a boring day i belive that a story could evolve from this short.. i really adored it... (^_^)

  • Thank you I really appreciate it!

  • is more to show off the camera, the story is boring and slow and going no where,. the good thng do, is that you did something. thi is what i do on a boring day,and filming my self whit a comercil camera

  • Good stuff here.

  • I am overwhelmed! This is such a good movie! I completely understand that you were just experimenting on a boring day - I've been there and done the exact same things. I think this is awesome!

  • This film is great, I hope my films can look half this good, once I get some money for some better equipment :/. But once again, great.

  • how much Threshold, opacity did u apply to the diffusion (settings) in post.. ... def are close to achieveing the film look

  • Thanks. I simply applied a diffusion filter straight from the Magic Bullet program. Simple drag and drop, cut and paste. Not much else really.

  • what program did u use to edits ur scenes and put sounds with them and text?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5

  • You got a nice camera, but i thik that you need to study about the language of cinema, if your goal is make cinema ,read more about cinema, your idea isn`t bad, on the contrary i Like it, but is just an anecdote of a boring day.

By the way, your post is great. Keep working.

Sorry if my writing is bad I`m a mexican in tijuana.

    saludos

  • very nice effect. this was all one camera, i presume?

  • what adapter are you using and lens?

and did u do any treatment on this footage in post?

  • I'm using the standard lens. I'll stick with the matte film look till I've got money to toss around. I've added a white diffusion filter in post and that's about it. Thanks

  • Hey have a question how did you get the black bars, or the aspect ratio of 2 35 1. Did you put them in post.????

  • Yes in post. Very crudely. I think I just matched up the bars with a wide screen vid cap.

  • what program did you use?

  • polaroid, very rare u get an indie who is modest but technically savvy too when it comes to composition and subtlties is very precise. good work friend! motivating thank for the post. Just decided to go into film and have bought the 100b and started filming 2 month ago. I have a short... u welcome to blast me, it'll be appreciated. peace.

  • I really love this camera. Nice shots! Very nice editing. Wich school are you/

  • Thank you. I go to CSUF but it's not a film school. You've got great work yourself.

  • Very nicely done. You deffintally achieved the cinematic look.

  • Check out my "About this video" section on the upper right. All the info is there. Danke.

  • You obviouly know whats good and bad about it so no point in me listing them. I must say the real quality of the movie is not the filming but the technical work. Check out my movie search for Lost In Elevation.

  • Phenominal film. Added to favorites.

  • ..Con't...We have about 6 films right now, all in post at the moment, nearing completion and ranging in length from about 6 min to 15 min. Our was also shot with a DvX100, pro mist filters, full lighting, and a great crews, drop me a line if interested. directedbyrorywood@hotmail.com

  • Hey man, thought the vid was interesting, i'm a film maker myself and my friends and i are putting together a dvd of short films by unkowns, hopefully gonna have it rented out of some the local vid stores in Vancouver. Where you from? and if your in the VanCity area we should keep in contact.

  • hey, cool video and editing~! are you working as cinematographer/editor? i'm a film student myself :)

  • No. I'm undiscoverd. HAHA. Struggling with the rest of 'em.

  • Dude that was pretty good. Lots of practice just makes you better. Although, some lighting would be good. Seems like the Protagonist has a goal. Not quiet sure, but its good. Loved the soundtracks and camera movement.

  • Thanks. It's just a matte I used.

  • Nice Film...

Is the guy supposed to be in some way handicapped?

Thats sort of the impression I got...or atleast he's a special kind of person ( I don't mean that in a patronizing way)

  • This video reminds me of something you would see in a sundance film or something well planed though the quality is really good.I think it would have been better if after he throughs the ball over the ledge he hops it and a big monster eats him..my opinion.

  • great cinematagraphy

  • Although I dindn't really enjoyed "the story" I find this short film extremely well made. The use of the light is so professional!

I think it's a great "practice video" and I'll love to watch a more ambitious work by this director.

I have uploaded a little amateur short film I made. Maybe you'd like to check it out:

  • wanted to know what you used to get the glow effect. What filter. And what shutter speeds you used? also im trying to get that glow effect, im using the same camera and adobe premiere too. Im looking for the effect that spielberg uses alot on munich and war of the worlds, where a glow around bright areas occur. Any suggestions. but i liked your clip. nice shots!

  • Thanks. The filter I used is called White Diffusion 5.0. It's from the "Magic Bullet" filter software that actually came with the dvx100a when I bought it. Lucky me. I didn't mess with the shutter speed to get the effect. Shutter was turned off. It was all filter. Yea, I know the glow you're talking about in Munich. I'd last watched it for the second time a week ago. I don't think the glow can be achieved without the filter. But then again, I haven't tried.

  • aaaw haha it was cute when he threw the ball into the neighbor's yard, and just stood there while the sad music started playing again

    *my favorite part! :p*

  • Very well done. I'm reminded of Polanski in certain shots. I used the same cam for my teaser (Spanglish Girls teaser) if u can find the time. What a great camera. Let's face it, 60fps video sucks. Once you use 24P, there's no going back.

  • I don't know too much of Polanski's work but I'm sure similarities will occur across the board. Yup 60fps is a no go for life!

  • i rlly don't know anything about films but i rlly didn't get the point? i mean it wasn't bad but it wasn't...good ya know? there wasn't rlly n e thing that wanted to make me watch the whole movie. Sorry but that's just my opinion

  • Don't apologize for your opinion. Simply put, it's not a film for everybody. We don't have to know about film-making to enjoy films. It's more of what we personally find entertaining and relatable. This was more a film of observation as I personally find some mundane things quite interesting but not everyone does. We all tend to gravitate towards films we can or want to relate to on some level. That's why everything comes in different colors; we don't all have to like pink. Arigatou!

  • What is the title of the music you used?

  • Besides the Lord of the Rings soundtrack toward the end, I used the soundtrack from Lemony Snickets.

  • Great Film... Nice set up of shots!!! Did you go to film school or anything?

  • Thanks. I took classes at a CSU. It didn't help me much though. Fortunately I bought a video camera and did a lot of fiddling with it. My shots improved with practice. Stuff I shot in highschool looks horrible now haha.

  • What file format did you export too , to upload it onto here? and how big is the file.. cuz i have a movie that is about 4 minutes long and the quality looks like crap when i up load it on here!!

  • The file size is 22.5mb exported with a Windows Media Video V8 video codec. The exported video size is only 320 x 240. You might want to try exporting to a smaller video size.

  • Magic Bullet eh? Where online can I get ahold of one? By the way, you seem to know a whole lot of film editing, hook me up with some tips yeah? if you have AIM, e12icy0o is the S/N. I just started to speculate in some interest on the subject so yeah, tips will be appreciated.

  • Yo polaroid, so you're filter was an edit filter? or for the camera itself? I've been searching for a filter that would make my shorts seem like cinema visuals but I couldn't get a hold of one. and i have Final Cut Pro too.. adobe premiere any good?

  • For the most part, my Panasonic DVX100a camcorder makes it look like film shooting at 24p. Beyond that I used an effects CD called Magic Bullet which has filters to make it look like film. I only used the white diffusion filter which gives it a white glow. I use Premiere because I have a PC and Premiere is what I started with. Almost all editing programs have the essential functions to make a great film. A good film starts with a good story. thanks

  • nice, please check out my short film/music vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTEK_WghKH0

  • I wouldn't say its the worst. As a filmmaker that seemed to me as a very intelligent expirimental film. I have never seen a film made out of shots of a friend doing nothing much at all.

I give it **** four stars out of five

  • although nothing happened much, i like it but i don't know why. this is the best looking short i've seen so far. it's not dark or choppy like the others. nice job.

  • This is the worse film I have ever seen. You should be proud of it, you're the first in the worse list.

  • Thanks!

  • reminds me of my own Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner movie. Check it out. I dig the film man.

  • I liked the shots and the filter really helps giving a warm ambience. the minas tirith and cat shots seem a whole different short film.

  • Yea, they don't make sense at all and the film would probably benefit without them. But because I shot them and thought them interesting, I decided to throw them into a film that didn't really have a point anyway.

  • where did you purchase your camera?

  • from www.bhphotovideo.com

  • haha i thought those shots were really really good. i liked it. right up my ally. the production logo shot at the beginning too. that was cool

  • i like it. The DVX 100a's are the best. The filter looks good too.

  • You got a Panasonic DVX100a and THIS is what you come up with!? ARRRRRRRRRRRRHHG!

  • Is the user of a nice camcorder obligated or somehow able to produce great works because of it?

  • You're not obligated, of course. But please, the Panasonic DVX100a is a serious investment that in a way forces oneself to think of great ideas. Certainly an idea better than 6 minutes of eating a banana.

  • THATS WHY he called it a practice clip.simple comprehension is essential

  • Total crapjob!

  • You have a good eye for film. For what its worth, I liked the film. Pointless, yet intriguing. May I ask what camera and music you used?

  • Yes it is pointless but I'm glad you found it intriguing! I used a Panasonic DVX100A and applied a white diffusion in post. The music I used came from Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events & Lord of the Rings soundtracks.

Thanks for the comment. I hope to make more films with a point but it's difficult to write up something of decent quality.

  • very good editing, nice job filming this, but i have to say, its boring!!! but i loved the way you filmed it its, i gatta say, semi professional, did you enter it into the film festival.??

  • I agree, the quality of this video is amazing.

  • what kind of camera you use it looks nice
