i read on the national geographic website and it only said that the baboon didn't make it through the night. then it goes on saying how Legadima found a new mate etc but that's about it for the baby baboon.
That already happened in Kenya. A lioness took a strange liking to a baby oryx, adopted it and adopted another after the first was killed. It was a big story here
Just do a key word search. Paste in your browser. Here is a similar story- "The lioness first made headlines in early January, when, to the surprise of Kenya's wildlife experts, she adopted her first oryx calf. For 17 days, she starved while the baby antelope made regular visits to its lactating mother.
At one point, the lioness scared off a family of cheetahs that tried to kill the calf. But inevitably, the oryx was eventually killed by another passing lion."
I saw an episode detailing those events. The lioness adopted several baby oryx. The lioness was bannished from her pride or the other members of her pride were killed. She was socially desparate. The baby oryx featured survived 10 days before another lion came along and killed him. At one point the baby oryx was reunited w/his herd but was reclaimed by the lioness. The problem is the lioness could not provide milk for the baby.
At end of video the leopard looks bereft, when the baby monkey was dying/dead. The instant love/tenderness the leopard felt, in finding the baby monkey, looks miraculous.
@dLimboStick, no. we don't "kill". we let other people kill animals, and we eat them while they are unrecognisable, packed in plastic. it's really easy to eat them that way. if we would kill animals ourselves, just then we are animals. now, we are nothing more but sad people, destroying our own world. and the beautiful living world of animals... yep. :)
@hannah344 I've killed my own food. I agree with you that too many people are isolated from their food source and don't understand what it means for another living creature to give it's life, so that you and your family may live, but the point I was making with my comment is that we humans, just like the leopard, are capable of killing for survival, but as animals we are also capable of compassion as a survival technique.
misfit7707, you fucking stupid? Unlike humans, animals are in constant survival mode and acts like caring for another specie is out of the question. Humans on the other hand are known to kill other fucking humans without emotion and that makes them more of a dumb animal than say a leopard.
okay, so in the beginning of this video it says that the baboons still makes lakadema's skin twitch.. it's because she was scared of the baboons eversince she was young and she hated them... and when she finally overcame that fear and killed a baboon, she found that baby baboon... just to broaden the story a little bit.. hehehe...
i saw the whole video clip of this one from when lakadema (i don't know how to spell her name) was still young until she grew up and actually met her brother... (which she didn't knew was her brother).. it was very interesting. THis part here in this video is the one that touched me the most...
Reminds me of Cain and Abel "And God sent a crow to scratch in the earth and show him how he might hide his brother's shame [bury his corpse], he said, "Alas, for me! Am I too helpless to become like this crow and hide my brother's shame".
We continue to learn to this day from these creatures.
It´s wonderful to see how the people who says that animals doesn´t have any feelings are WRONG. I really enjoyed watching this video, a great lesson for humanity.
The baby dies from exposure while sleeping. Great story though. I also saw one where a female lion adopted a new born antelope. It stayed with her for several days before another lion killed it. Just goes to show how strong the mothering instinct is in mammals.
Does anybody know what happened to the baby? I hope the camercrew took it with them so she survived

The leopard was probably full so it did not feel the need to kill if it was not going to eat the baby.

If the leopard is not pregnant = death of the baboon
(no milk)
LatchesPH 4 years ago
Unfortunately, the baby will more than likely die. The leopard will not be able to give that infant what it needs to survive.
