I believe this is the best gangster movie ever. It is a movie that did not need to be gory or horiffic but makes its point brilliantly. It is almost like watching a gangster movie in reverse. The hunters are being hunted. Superb movie - why don't we see more like this?

This could be a trailer for the movie. This is one of the best crime films period, American or British. But it does seem like since The Long Good Friday every British crime film has tried to imitate it, look at Ben Kingsley's walk in the airport in Sexy Beast.

Bob hoskins just oozes evil throughout - brilliant! I remember reading somewhere that they shaped his ears somehow to make them seems more pointed - like a cropped doberman - to make him look even more menacing. It's laughable that he wasted his talent on Roger Rabbit (but, yes, probably earned more than he did in this gem.)

when thay made this,thay had a coulple of east end villans watching,from time to time one or the other would say,he woudent do(or say)that,when bob hoskins asked what he would do,there only reply was,dont know,but he woudent do that!.so the scene was shot again,untill thay were happy!thats half the reason its so authentic.

TLGF beats get carter because the story is more compelling and well thought out. its an intricate tale beautifully told .. bob hoskins is incredible , he devours the screen and makes ya 'praaard' to be british. we aint seen actin like that since cagney.
