what are the weights of the lucanus jigs your using?

@AAAZZZ909 Hey AAAZZZ909, On this trip the team were mainly using 60 and 80g jigs. All colours worked with the pearl with chartreuse stripe being a favourite. Weight selection should be the lightest you can get away with that can cope with the current and depth you are fishing. Retrieves that worked varied from a slow wind back from the bottom, a stop start slow wind and a burn and kill - faster wind with pauses included. Hope you are finding a few fish. Cheers, Justin

best action for using these jigs is let it sink to the bottom then reel in about 1m. then you can either slowly lift and drop or just put the rod in the rod holder and let the swell work it for ya..... seems to be the way most people i know that use them do it and they get good results

Hey, tried these jigs last weekend spent 3 days north of Fraser Island fishing the shelf and the closer reefs. I took two of these lucanus jigs with me, one 200 gram and one 150 gram using 50lb braid with 80lb leader. was amazed when the first fish hit being a 9.5kg snapper followed by a 14kg blue maori cod then a peal perch. Only issue is the hook sets wear out quick ! the hooks are fine but the line let go after catching a couple more good fish. Lost both jigs to sharks as they love them too.

These octopus style jigs come in a range of sizes / weights for different depths / currents / species and I don't see any reason why you couldn't use them from a pier or the rocks. We run the lighter ones on a 3-6kg rod, 2500 - 3000 size reel with 15-20lb braid and 20lb leader and the heavier ones on 5 - 10kg rods 4000 - 6000 size reels with 20 - 40lb braid and 40lb leader. I guess the size of your gear would come down to the size of the species being targeted, but this is a starting point.
