  • Thanks. Nah, I can't read music or anything. I just play by ear everytime. Thanks again.

  • Thanks!

  • howd you get so good on drums dude? that was great!

  • Thank you! My advice is don't bother with lessons and just learn by hitting anything you can find. You'll find your way. Thanks again.

  • lol i got a drum set im just a guitar player

  • DUDE you are awesome!!! that was sick!!! truly amazing!!!

  • Brilliant & amazing as ever...:-)

  • i love your videos i play lots of SP and whenever i am unsure if i'm playing right, i'm proud too say i have mastered bullet with butterfly wings, tarantula, tonight tonight, today, and cherub rock, all with your help/// thanks!!!1

  • wow thank you. That's a really kind comment. Good work! Glad I helped!

  • i love that stray cymbal hit in very the beginning...xD

    but joking aside...

done extremely well my friend =-D

  • you talking about when he hits the hi-hat half way through doing the drum roll?

if so then can I suggest you listen to the actual song, cause Jimmy does that too

  • Billy should have picked you for the new Jimmy!!

  • hahaha.

    Fuck you are the champion.

  • you do the best smashing pumpkins covers

  • I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment but have you ever thought about doing a cover of FOL?

  • Dude, that was pretty awesome!

2:53-2:54 is hilarious, i dont know why, it just makes me laugh every time.

    Great job.

  • Man you ROCK!

  • Yeah, my favourite SP moment must be the quieter and last part of "Hummer", you know the "Ask yourself a quistion...."-part. Watching your videos I'm speechless and reminded how I suck behind the drums... :( But then again everyone has their own style and such.

Anyway, keep it up Phil.... you rock!

  • dude you gotta try out to be the new pumpkins drummer.

  • I'm with phil on this one. And it looks like Jimmy is too... I much rather have a Complex 2 anyway.

  • have you heard the new songs from their recent concerts? i really like "99 floors" and "a song for a son"

  • LMFAO at 3:15

  • Ah, to each his own, I guess.

  • Sure, Zeitgeist is really different, and Siamese Dream is in fact the best album, but have you heard the new stuff? Like 99 Floors, Peace+Love, all that? It's really good, very Adore. But I like Zeitgeist... it's not horrible.

  • Siamese Dream every time.

  • Is Zeitgeist a good beginner album to the Pumpkins, Because I have it. If so, in your opinion, what should I get next?

  • Get Siamese dream then Mellon Collie

  • AWESOME

  • must agree with everyone else...nice work man, really nice work!:)

  • Thanks!

  • And check out 3:16! HAHAHA! It's killing me! Real funny! Haha! But great drum cover huh! Two thumbs up! :D

Your really good and at the same time, funny =))!

  • Haha thanks a lot. Sounds like you enjoyed it

  • I was Effin laughing hysterically at 2:54 when you just hit that drum from out of no where! HAHAHA!

  • Well done man. Those cartoon effects are killer. Tighten up that slower section from 3:00 and you'll achieve Jimmy-like perfection.

  • It's pretty obvious that he wasn't trying during the slower section. He handle the fast paced parts perfectly, why would he be bad at the slow and easy part?

  • very well played :) great job very perfessional :)

  • Thank you!

  • you should try covering the SP song "Superchrist" that song is WICKED!!!

  • this is the best pumpkins cover i've heard in a very long time. cheers!

  • well done as usual phil, you should check out my guitar cover :)

  • awesome vid!! I play guitar, but if I'd do drums, you'd be my teacher :)

  • Haha thanks a lot. Good luck with guitar

  • this is s(h)weet

    good job

  • best smashing pumpkins drum covers come from you

  • your the first guy on youtube that iv seen who can actually play the song. It must be awesome to be able to video your self and not only hear but view the performance. I imagin it could serve as a vial aid to learning drum parts, ill have to try it one day. Another Awesome cover dude.

  • Thanks a lot. Yeah, I get a lot of people saying the videos help them and that makes me feel good

  • have to quote joe65968

"your the first guy on youtube that iv seen who can actually play the song"

    Yes indeed, awesome performance phil.

  • Thank you! You people are really kind

  • that was damn good man. keep up the good work

  • LOL i like the song emitted by ure chair HAHA

seriously you're video is very great

i have to perform to be able to say i can play this song at drums haha ;)!

  • Haha thanks a lot!

  • Just Great!! .. I want to know about the drummer kit .. do yo have any reference? Also, if you dont want to wear headphones you just plug to an amplifier .. or ?? .. sorry I am really interested .. GREAT JOB !! By the way .. Im going to SP concert .. BIG FAN ! .. Thanks ..

  • Thank you very much. The drum kit I use is a Roland TD-10. They're great. Yes, you don't have to wear headphones, you can plug into any kind of amp. Thanks again

  • Hey another great one man! Couple questions for you. What do you think of the recording techniques done for the new music? I think Jimmy's drums sound amazingly fresh and alive but I'd like to know what you think.

Also, who are some of your other favorite drummers? Are there any others that are as original as JC?

  • Thanks a lot. The recording technique's they use now are pretty good. I know they used the older style reel to reel instead of pro tools. The drums sound really clear compared to mellon collie or Siamese dream. My other favourite drummers are Tim Alexander, Chad Smith, Anton Fig and J Mascis from Dinosaur JR. All for different reasons I guess. Thanks again

  • nicely done although i have to say i bloody hate the sound of that snaredrum. (and its weird to miss half the guitarsolo due to mono sound)

  • dude this is sick.... u and chamberlin would be awesome together

  • Thanks a lot!

  • whats the difference/advantage of electronic drums from the traditional kit? pls educate me...

  • Well the electric kits are good because you can just put headphones on so it doesn't annoy anyone else. And they're great for making videos like this with. I love sitting down and just playing along to stuff all day. Plus there's a huge range of sounds.

The downside is they'll never be as good as acoustic kits. I still prefer my acoustic kit and love it more than a mother loves her child

  • last 20 seconds has amazing energy awesome dude!

  • Thanks!

  • Amazing sound quality man. Great work.

  • u fucking nailed it:)

  • lmao i love the sound at 3:15

    btw fucking killer cover

    rock on

  • great job man...

  • Thanks a lot my friend

  • beuatiful cover. props.

  • ya i try to tap the high hat but it just throws me off. I really like the double kick its a lot of fun.

  • sorry to ask so many questions but do you play double kick pedals or do you just use the one

  • On this song I use just one. It looks like I'm using two but my left foot is just tapping up and down mostly. On the Roland kit in general, I have a double bass pedal set up. But when I'm on the acoustic kit with the band, I just use one

  • Again...you have entertained me. Nice work.

  • Hey man are you a left-handed drummer?

  • Yeah I'm left handed

  • LOL what did you do at 3:15???

this is an amazing cover. I love watching your videos. :)

  • Haha thanks. I'm not too sure myself what I done at 3:15 haha

  • Well screw it...if you like doing it then I aint gonna stop ya. Happy drumming and Peace out! And lets all look forward to the gish tour and G.L.O.W!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you did something original like some drum takes of your own, that would show everyone your own unique style. i.e time signatures/technique and composition?? I think I came across as being malicious, sorry man thats the last thing I would do..im not a teenager. Its just good to see once but when I search for pumpkins vids...theres you with another video up lol!! It can be quite annoying sometimes.

  • Im entitled to my opinion. If you have a style of your own then show it? How can you have a style of your own when you imitate jimmy chamberlins exact grooves?? Jimmy has his own style which is evident in his composition of pumpkins and the complex songs.

  • Im an asshole because this guys tries to be jimmy chamberlin??? V

Fair enough, say what ye want this is my last post anyways.

  • Man, that other guy's a stupid asshole. Of course you have your own style, all of your covers have a really original flair to them, and I've seen *a lot* of Pumpkins covers on YouTube.

Amazing job, keep putting up covers of my favourite songs! You haven't done one of Lily already by chance, have you?

  • Thanks a lot. That's a cool comment. I haven't done Lily let, no. But I'm slowly working my way round them all so chances are I'll end up doing it before long. Thanks again. Cool video by the way

  • Thanks. I have to say it's uncanny how many of my favourite Pumpkins songs you've done, plus some by Zwan as well, which I think is pretty cool. I'm surprised you haven't done Honestly yet (although you might have and I've just missed it) but I guess the drums in that aren't exactly standout, plus why just do the single anyway?

  • This is 2n2equals5 borrowing someone else's account, in case you wondering...

  • Haha yeah, I figured it out

  • Thank a lot. I haven't done honestly yet. I forgot about that. I guess I'll do it sooner or later.

  • quit the pumpkins covers all ready!!!!!!

  • No way

  • your no jimmy get your own style!

  • I have my own style. In fact, my own style ended up as a featured video on here. As for the Pumpkins covers, a lot of people love them, if you don't wanna watch them, then don't. Makes no difference to me. You're just some other kid who doesn't have any videos up.

  • Hahaha, we missed half the solo :(

    give us stereo sound!!

  • YOU ROCK MANN

  • Looks like you're getting a workout! What a crazy drum part. Great job, great song.

  • Thanks a lot. Yeah it's a cool song to play

  • this is my favorite cover that you've done

love the groove of this song, hard to deny lol

check my cover of disarm out and leave a comment -)

  • i love this song! great cover!

  • great just one question why dont you play with your arms crossed????? thanks great more pumpkins please =]

  • Thanks a lot. There's no real reason why I don't play like that. I just set my kit up differently. Thanks again

  • hes a lefty duh

  • Thanks for clarifying that, I couldn't match up your feet with what I was hearing.

  • Are you using a double pedal?

  • Not for this no. A few people have asked me and although it looks like I am, my left foot is either tapping on the floor because I find it easier to play like that or it's on the hi hat

  • That was sweet. What was up with the slidewhistle when you stood up though? Made me do a double take and rewind. Lol. Awesome anyway, I've used your videos to learn a few songs so I may as well become a new subscriber!

  • Oh cool, thanks for subscribing. Haha yeah, I like putting little sfx in now and again.

  • F***ing awesome dude love the SP i hope there are more from them to come i'd love to see how it sounds on ur elect. drum set which is sweet by the way 10/10 dude :D

  • damn you're good.

  • Keep the pumpkin covers coming, there a pleasure to watch.

  • haha love that random 'bong' it jst full made it that much better, which isnt an easy thing. good work from down under mate

  • Awesome. Thanks a lot

  • my new idol

    this is amazing

  • haha thanks

  • you play opened handed like ME

    yay im not alone

  • Amazing.

  • an awesome drummer who loves smashing pumpkins (including zeitgeist). dude, you're my hero!

  • Haha thanks a lot!

  • thats impressive. can u tell me how much a set up like yours would cost?

  • thanks. At the time it cost me £5,000 (just under $10,000) but that was 5 years ago and they've come right down in price now. You can get them for about £2,500 ($5,000) now

  • thats damn nice i like your sound affect when u stand up near the end lol

  • Haha thanks a lot

  • its long and hard but the only way to be this good is to learn jazz drumming. My mate is the same standard as this guy and he said it took him about 7 years to properly master the control and timing needed.

  • Yeah, a lot of people tend to say that. I don't know though, I've never bothered with it myself. Jazz drumming always sounds cool and is fun to watch, but it's not something I'm into learning

  • you must have quite a natural flair for it then if you can do this without learning it

  • Nice and controlled.

  • good job but looks like ur tryin 2 push out a turd! jk that was way better than i can play the song.

  • Nice vid, tight as

  • kickass performance

  • is that double bass for this song?? once again AMAZING!!!

  • Thanks, no, I don't use double bass for it. It looks that way though but one foot is mostly tapping on the floor

  • haha rely?? so the left foot is doin nutin in this? lol

  • Hey Haggis. It's cool that you play drums. No, I've never had any lessons either. If you want lessons I'd go for it. No reason why not to. As for figuring stuff out, try to find a video of someone/the band playing it. I always feel that by WATCHING someone do it, it helps me out more. Good luck
