@MaceMn I do wonder if they previewed this to an audience and found that people were confused about whether it was real or not. That would have been a reason to include the voiceover.
@MaceMn Lol, well I will admit from a dramatic standpoint it does sort of put a stamp on the whole moment for Gutman to announce "It's lead, it's LEAD." It's like a period ending a sentence. : )
I don't know why I didn't connect Peter Lorre to Ren and Stimpy earlier, lol.
Hollywood truly doesn't make 'em like that anymore. Movie stars back then had personality. Even when typecasted, people enjoyed waiting for those moments on screen.
One of the absolutely classic "melt down" scenes of all time. There were only a few better character actors than the marvellous Peter Lorre. He was a priceless gem!
my last name is maltes and everyone always says 'oh like the maltese falcon?' i never knew what they ment so i had to watch the movie. i guess it must be a good movie cuz all of the good comments but idk....
I love how is slumps into the chair crying. :3 I love Peter Lorre. <3

lorre was an underrated actor. I loved his role in this...a sort of sissy homosexual. brilliant

@joemoe23 This was the first role I saw Peter Lorre in, definitely stood out from the beginning. :)

Wonder who the dumbass was that insisted on the voiceover? Like we couldn't deduce that the bird was fake.

@MaceMn yeah i have wondered about that --that whole sequence of shots is wrong and that disembodied voice -weird

and the three bad guys are also gay, with Lorre being obvious

The inspiration for Ren Hoek (Ren and Stimpy), that voice done by the great Billy West.

Amazing physical acting from Greenstreet. 17 years wasted on a wild goose chase. He almost loses it...then visibly pulls himself back together.

worst voicover ever, best lines(and delivery) ever
TEGbuwchbach 2 years ago 3
Right on both counts!
The voice over as the bird is revealed to be a fake wasn't the best, though that often happened in older movies.
But as far as Peter's lines and delivery, legendary, hehe. :)

If you want a big laugh, look at it without sound. It looks like Lorre is cussing up a storm.

Yes. This one's a remake. One of the few examples of a remake improving on the original.

Bogart and Lorre were great on screen together. Too bad Lorre's character Ugarte did not last survive the first 15 minutes of Casablanca.

Funny how it's made to look all action-packed in the prievew, yet there's no shooting at all in it.
Not that I can remember, anyway.
