Now I'm convinced to circumnavigating by Cat. At first I was willing to purchase a Hallberg or Caliber for it because I thought to do it by Cat is little too risky. I've heard that the Cat is not good in climbing. How do you think of it?
You are all stupid and the video guy MUST be a liar. With my many years at sea, I can say with certainty that he is in a 39.452kt wind. You are all noobs and stupid and I hate you. Can we all calm down now? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@flaming97 No, we found the main in strong winds to be a bit tough to deal with, and in fact the cat sailed just as well and just as fast without it in these conditions. Straight downwind like this all we needed was the jib.

Lawdy lawdy lawdy..... Bumfuzzle, complete props to you and your wife's adventure! I'm currently reading your blog and taking notes. Plan on taking myself and my fiancee on such an endeavor in a few years once things settle down with work. Thanks for posting!
no need to put your nickname under your post, really....
btw. which windspeed indicator are you referring to, my hero ? max speed or average ? we can debate whether it was 25kts or 30kts average, but no way for it to be 40kts avg. maybe it peaked at 40kts on that day...
@rps13sr the Beaufort scale, can use the look of the waves and things to guage wind speeds.
I'd say that's 40 knots if that's what they saw on their wind speed gauges. The Bumfuzzles sailed around the world, in all sorts of conditions, I don't think they'd have any reason to want to post false info.
@Slocketman ..40 knots is force 8. No Spindrift in this vid though!. So this vid is not force 8. Even the starboard bow waves dont start blowing off untill the course get changed upwind somewhat. Sad but true, its not 40 knots. Perhaps a random bullet, But its definately not 40 knots.
You are some weird people. We sailed 33,000 miles around the world. Why would we lie about one short video sailing 40 knots? As you can see it was a following wind, not a big deal.
40 kt????? hahahaha
lieing suckers

Meh, I will give em 30 Knots, Not 40, Perhaps a random bullet to 40., but thats not how one measures windspeed. Nice sailing all the same.

40 knots ? what are you smoking ? this was some 25 kts on a deep downwind course, as far as I can see...

I think most disagree with the 40kn tag because the sea looks relatively calm.
40kn is the top end for 8bft and looking at my chart the sea looks like an average 7 to me.
Then again, I believe you saying it is 40kn as the sea doesnt always truly reflect the wind velocity.

How can you guys tell by the video how fast the winds are.. how can you give a number like 25 30 35 by looking a the video.
its not like he was moving at 40 knots or something.
its just the wind is at 40 knots
