Second, why don't you rest your thumb on the fretboard instead of on the top string? I find it easier that way.

@DanielMarkWainwright I don't rest the thumb on the E string. You can see the finger. But I never rest it on the string itself. It's always on the fretboard :)

Spot on nje..It's close though, I just hang up myself at the beginning? Nice playing but the first part of the line is supposed to be " E0(hold note) then A5 A3 E3 E2 E0 and so on,the rest sounds good but yeah, it's not easy to hear what Jason is playing. Good luck

You're wrong on that one, it may not be exactly the way Jason played it but I have the Black album movie (that being "A year and a half in the life of metallica") And you can clearly see that when Jason played it it was E0 A7 A5 A3 E3 E2 E0

Well the movie you're right about, but I just can't hear him play it on the CD version. I tried to filter out the bassline as good as I can, and nope I still believe that it's played like I said. Take some minutes and listen to that version, I'm guessing it is that one you're playing along with.
