  • Typical Yank, why don't you go and fix your own problems. You have no place in this discussion. As for the rest of you, wake up to yourselves. WE NEED DEVELOPMENT. These five beautiful artificial lakes will only flood a tiny area, they will be great tourist attractions, they won't emit CO2, you'll hardly know they are there, and they will begin to replace the importation of 7 billion tons of coal and 690 million M3 of nat. gas. They'll save Chile Billions 'cause they don't need fuel to gen pwr.

  • does he not know most of patagonia is actually in argentina!

  • Destruction of patagonia Chilean, is not the solution to the energy crisis. We do not want to ENDESA Spain in ours patagonia. we are thankful for the support of bod, and are thankful for all the support of the honest and sencibles people with the environment. " patagonia don´t dam patagonia" , not to the cheap policy, not to the insults, not to the intolerance, we only want one patagonia free of contamination.

  • Yes, so you hate yourself? Just curious.

  • you wouldn't be using a computer and be logging on youtube if it wasn't for the american's double standards and twisted morals.

  • Why does he talk like that.

  • He is channeling for Katherine Hepburn, thank goodness.

  • @bishop102

I read he has a problem with his vocal chords.

  • hmm i guess your right, but aslong as it doesnt damage anything, im for the dam.

  • alright lautaro, that was a very fair comment. your right, i do oppose of the british production of oil, but how much longer is oil going to last? 50 years tops? and what about patagonia? its been here long before we where, and probably will be long after we've gone, lets not ruin that by bulding a dam.

  • dont play that, 'your morals of intelligence are at a very pretty level' game with me, just by saying something that sounds clever doesnt make that so.

  • how can you put a price on the environment?

  • you stop them from destroying that place bobby and you stop them good!

  • thanks man =')

  • Could you at least get the geographical facts straight, Patagonia is in the tip of South America and the majority (about 80%) is in Argentina. So the problem must be addressed from both countries Chile and Argentina.

    Get a map next time...

  • No queremos represas en la patagonia!

  • I think that all of mr. Kennedy said is true, but the most important thing is that we, the Chilean people, and the autorities that we choose, are the ones who must determine whether we build or we do not. And if we say yes, the whole world should respect our decision. What makes Mr. Kennedy is wonderful, but it should not meddle in affairs that do not match. We will not tell him what to do in the area of his house.

    Greetings

  • I disagree with your comments. Kennedy is not telling Chile what to do...he is encouraging Chilean and all nations to work together to protect our last great wild places, including the Chilean Patagonia's Rio Baker Valley... Protecting (or damming) Patagonia, Chilean Patagonia and the Rio Baker Valley would have implications far beyond Chile's borders...We should work as a global community here to determine what is best for these kinds of places...and not let money and corp. power rule the show

  • of course, but what is mr kennedy saying about us' nuclear weapons?, what i saying about guantanamo? what is saying about the kyoto protocol that us don't respect? NOTHING! so, I think first he should take care about the problems of his own country and then about the problems of others... and then, like u said, "work as a global community" but always when the bigger respect we smallers countrys... for other hand, I totally agree with the meaning of mr kennedy said. :p

    saludos ^^

  • Yes Kennedy!

    Save Patagonia!

  • It is true, there are other options to obtain power in Chile. Atacam is the driest dessert with clearest skies in the world. Who in Chile is talking about solar energy? Who is talking about wind power? Do we have to destroy rivers that are unique in the world to get electricity? I DONT THINK SO. Lets try to find alternative resourses for this power. Why not spend some of the surpluses created by copper export to research about this, we could become the workl leader in solar energy if we wanted.

  • Thanks for your comments and recognition that alternative energy sources are available and should be further explored. NRDC is working with our Chilean partners Ecosistemas, Citizens Coalition of Reserve of Life and others to build awareness and prevent construction of these dams. We're also developing a study on the potentials of renewable energy, efficiency and cogeneration

  • For more information about the campaign and our Chilean partners, Ecosistemas, Citizens Coalition of the Reserve of Life, The Young Tehuelches and Defenders of the Spirit of Patagonia you can go to their websites or contact NRDC.

  • Well as a chilean I thank Bobby Kennedy for his preocupation for Patagonia. Chileans should not generalize americans on their views about Kyoto and global warming issues. It is the dirty Republicans and mother fucker Bush the ones that with their narrow and selfish materialistic view of the universe are jeopardizing the efforts to make this a better world. Fuck Republicans and specially FUCK BUSH!!!

  • I'm Chilean.I like the fact that want to save Patagonia but a dam is way better than burning oil. Chile is in a pretty bad situation when it comes to Energy. The dam is not going to stop the water for ever. If you want to save Patagonia and many beautiful places around the world, start by asking the US CONGRESS to pass some serious law to stop the pollution that United States is producing, they should take some Europeans countries as an example. Good luck!

  • The choice is not between dams and oil. There are better energy solutions for Chile, including employing basic efficiency measures. To date there hasn't been serious studies on alternatives to the dams in Chile. This project would degrade the rivers and industrialize one of the most pristine places on the planet. Yes the US needs to do more to reduce its own pollution and to protect its special places, but all countries have a responsibility to preserve the environment for the next generation.

  • the problem is that environmentalist in Chile oppose to ALL kind of energy sources. They are producing more damage than good. They oppose to the dams, they oppose to geothermic plants: it will damage the beauty of the area, they oppose nuclear energy, they oppose wind mills because some birds can die and again it will damage the "view", they oppose solar energy because panels are made of dangerous materials... looks like they work for the oil companies... and they prefer to keep burning fuels.

  • BTW, how the chilean environmentalist power their computers? do they use candles (oil) to read by night? do they have some kind of stationary bicycles to power their computers and TVs? they walk and ride bicycles? no, they don't do that... they just TALK about the environment, but they keep using the energy they oppose to be produced. Most of them are cynics and are in favor of environmentalism, because is "cool". Probably they don't even question what they do. I know several people like this.

  • This is "hilarious". Chile must save Patagonia (from water, not pollution) for people like this to have a pretty place to go on vacations. But at the same time, the US is the biggest responsible for global warming. They care about a few square kilometers of land but not about the whole world (that's so "funny"). Ask your government to sign the Kyoto protocol first, then we can talk about dams. Seriously.

  • We're as concerned as you are about U.S. global warming emissions and working hard to persuade our cities, states, and federal government to take action. Patagonia is more than just a pretty place; it's one of our planet's most natural regions. The proposed hydro scheme is massive, including the world's longest transmission line, and would be devastating. That is why Chilean environmentalists and communities asked us to stop foreign-owned companies from implementing this ill-conceived project.

  • I think your an idiot maguilar2k.... The US is probably responsible for Transantiago too right and all the polution in Santiago. Whats more funny is that your profile says that you live in the states... so basically who cares what you have to say.

  • Sorry thats my friends account... I said that!

  • your comment just shows your low level of analysis and discussion.... give me something to think about, not just a display of stupidity. Thanks.

  • What's wrong with the guy's voice?

  • He has spasmodic dysphonia.
